Ishgard is surrounded by 4 arcane barriers called daniffen’s collar, so the only way for dragons (or anyone else) to attack ishgard is to push through the steps of faith, seeing as it is the only ‘weak point’, even though as we saw in the steps of faith trial, the barriers were present even at the ‘weak point’. Even if somehow the dragons manage to break the 4 shields entirely, ishgard’s walls are filled with harpoons and barricades. Hope this helps

I might understand why some people hate this trial, since newbies sometimes don't understand what are they supossed to do and end up screwing it up. But yet this is the most unique trial in this game. I mean, yeah, every trial has their own strats and they're unique in some way as well, but this one feels a lot more different. Probably because of the amount of cooperation that it requires.

There's a strat in this fight? Man, I just picked up this game. One thing I hate about expansions is that a lot of the mechanics in the old content stop mattering. I literally just did my rotation and the trial passed itself.

@@TheUniverseExists Yeah, unfortunately this also applies to this trial nowadays. Everything has been powercreeped to the point in which you can do this trial ignoring the canons and the harpoons. Back in the day it was a pain getting this from the trials roulette.

@@TheUniverseExists You can technically still perform the "strat", but like they said, it's not necessary anymore. Back then you had to assign 2 players to cannons, and a 3rd one for the Dragonkiller after Vishap crossed the first barrier. Tanks would bring adds in range of cannons and also keeping them underneath Vishap to maximize damage. The boss's hitbox is also a bit weird when interacting with the Dragonkiller shots, so making sure you hit them was extremely crucial. After the first Dragonkiller, Vishap would dodge the next ones if you didn't bind him, said dodge would also cause severe AoE damage that would oneshot everyone, tanks included most of the time. Before firing the 2nd Dragonkiller and onwards, you needed to wait for those on cannon duty to trigger the bindings. Because of how hard it was for casual players to properly co-ordinate this fight, SE nerfed the heck out of it, on top of with future expansions changing skill potencies the fight has become easier and easier overtime.

Just finished this for the first time. Music started kicking in I was like "Damn you FFXIV, you did it again!!" That blend of soundtrack and action. Melded perfectly to the stakes of the moment. This game is starting to outclass a lot of others in it's genre.

Definitely a different take on the usual trials. I for one liked it. It was challenging in the sense that you got an immense satisfaction after beating him. But at the same time he's just a Lieutenant...Nidhogg's the big guy, and he's just one of 7 sons of Midgardsomrr, who's the father of all dragons. Even Bahamut shrinks in comparison. It's kinda like "well shit..." But still...>=) bring it on!

But I was taken away with this instance; right out of my chair and straight into one of the many medieval movies I've grown to love. I actually felt like I was defending a castle from siege! But not from human soldiers, a horde of effin dragons! So cool!

One of my favorite fights in the game. For the first time, the SCALE really sold me that I was fighting something extraordinary. I didn't know the mechanics, but I was a healer anyway, I just had to keep everyone else alive (besides, this game has been out forever so everybody else knew the battle, making it easy for me). Although it was super easy to take Vishap on, I loved the feeling of taking this on.

@@christhagod For some reason I always enjoyed seeing how quickly I can finish it with a group, I've once got to just the second barrier and won. I also never got the chance to see what would happen if you went in as a level 90 and just finished it instantly. Also the music. I know it's a really unimpressive fight I just had a lot of fun with it. I enjoyed running ahead to get the traps ready and so on. I got to live out a little bit of a childhood fantasy I had, ever since playing dragon age origins, where I just really wanted to actually be a part of the opening siege. Sieges are just fun honestly.

Drake Silvos Completely true, I just found it a little frustrating whilst actually doing it. That stems more from the people than the fight though. Most frustrating is queuing, getting in, wiping twice then people rage quitting, or AFKing because they don't want to eat a 30 minute time-out, essentially ruining the fight for everyone involved (and this is just the learning stage). That said though, if this is an example of the sorts of Trials we're going to be having in Heavensward then I'm a very happy customer.

Recently did this fight while it was easy (and apparently it's going to become a One-man solo quest to do) and jesus I was NOT expecting a repeat of the MAGATSU event from Phantasy Star Online 2. (basicly have to defeat a gigantic humanoide creature while using mounted guns and stuff. while he try to reach a checkpoint and three door block his way.)

Wow, after 4 1/2 years, I NEVER knew you could get to the top of those towers and fire the ballistas! I solo'd this just the other day as a lvl 90 Arcanist (for story reasons), took about 9-ish minutes to take this guy down with a basic Ruin spam and Carbuncle summons...

Supposedly it has been nerfed to hell and there has been MASSIVE power creep making early fights like this trivial. I'm a new player and it's a shame that a fight this cool doesn't really have difficulty anymore. The music is awesome and the SCALE of Vishap is incredible. The setting for this fight is soooo hype. This was the first time a fight in the game got me super excited, even though the dragon got crushed by basic DPS. *sigh*

Just got to this fight, made about 3 attempts before the other 7 party members simultaneously jumped ship on me. :( I was doing fine, I think, but it doesn't help that the instructions I was given by the other party members were severely limited. Like, half sentence instructions that highlight none of the context of what I was supposed to be doing. I figured it out at about the same time Vishap here broke down one of the last wards. >.

Hey,markee dee got a question about the storyline, when you met the dragoon from the dragoon questline (after assuming he could of been dead) did your character react to it? just asking cause i know about the dragoon story but never had a character who did it lol

Yeah, I'm paraphrasing a little but basically when he comes in my character acted surprised to see him. He was introduced as the Azure Dragoon and said that there was another Azure Dragoon in the room. He then said not to worry and that he's not there to fight or something along those lines, then he got back to business. Pretty cool that they've bothered to include something like that, for me it helped keep immersion a lot.

Nerfed severely in Stormblood, made laughably easy in Shadowbringers and removed outright in Endwalker. Rest in peace quite possibly the best trial in the game. Gone because the playerbase is riddled with insufferable snowflakes that parrot opinions without a shred of personal knowledge on the subject and go absolutely feral if they are inconvenienced by anything even in the slightest of ways.

i loved this fight pre-nerf, it was awesome, great music, nice interesting and different mechanics oh and a dragon bigger than a freaking HOUSE. but saddly like all game companies, SE listened to the whiners instead of growing a pair and saying "look the game TELLS you what to do, this trial is not hard!" just look, the video tells it all, "to the cannons!!" +Azz The Stickman Even if you did what it told you to do, that didn't guarantee victory before the nerf. If you had people who just didn't have very high DPS in general, you would fail even if you got all the DK shots in and the bombs. I only had two clears on it before the nerf and that's only because I was churning out high DPS using strength accessories and an optimal zeta weapon as a PLD.

The bible says that if you will repent (confess and forsake your sins) and trust in what Christ did on the cross (He took the wrath of God that was meant for you and I) then all your sins will be forgiven and when you die you will be in heaven with God and all who believe for eternity. Jesus died and on the third day He rose from the grave. Get right with God today don't wait. Once you die after that comes the judgement. Hebrews 9:27 It's the most important thing you can do. You must be born again John 3:7 If you repent and trust in what Christ did on the cross it shows that you've been born again or born spiritually. Right now you're dead in your sins and you can't see the beauty of Jesus Christ but after you trust in Christ all the things you hate about God like obeying him, serving Him, loving Him and others, reading the bible, praying and going to church you will love to do those things because God changes your heart. That's how you know you have been born again and forgiven. Please think long about this and ask me any questions you have as this is the most important thing you can ever think of in your life. An eternity in hell (darkness and a lake of fire the bible describes it, with weeping and gnashing of teeth) or an eternity out of that place and into the loving arms of God who is infinitely glorious, has infinite knowledge and has infinite power to do all that He pleases.
