This entire first phase's theme pays homage to FFVI, and I love it. It's the first serious Boss Theme(Battle to the Death) and the normal Battle theme near the end. It's fantastic.

For FFVI (GBA) this theme plays for these specific bosses only: Ultima Weapon, Demon, Fiend, Goddess, Kaiser Dragon and Omega Weapon. Only having 6 bosses that plays this theme and using it that rarely means these bosses are usually a challenge.

Started playing recently and only just got around to unlocking these trials a couple days ago. I knew about "Definitely Not Worlds Collide" for a long time, but what I didn't know that it was the BGM for the SECOND phase. I have never fully activated so fast in my life as I did when that timpani roll hit. SUPER WEIRD THOUGH how they didn't trot this back out for the Ultima Beast fight in Fractal Continuum (Hard).

The healers there were trolling by purposely dying to easy to avoid stuff... one claimed he had no resurrection as scholar. That's because it IS him. Nomura (yes, Nomura, not Amano!) actually named all three of the Warring Triad in his concept art: Sephiroth (Fiend), Zurvan (Demon), and Sophia (Goddess). It's pretty cool how FFXIV is using those names even though they never appeared in FFVI proper. And no, that's not a typo - the concept art did call him セフィロス (Sefirosu), same as the FFVII villain. Hence the tweak: Sephirot in the US, セフィロト (Sefiroto) in Japan. Both are legitimate renderings of the name of the Tree of Life in the Kabbalah. (That's another thing I love about the fight - the names of his attacks and adds are references to the Kabbalah. It's rare for Final Fantasy to reference religion and mythology beyond mere name-dropping!)

+DracoHandsome Rip off? Hardly. Sure, the first 5 seconds are really similar, and it continues to remind of that song a bit for the next 25, but after that? Not even close. Also, try to hear both songs at the same time. They don't mix. At all. After said 30 seconds it's actually painful to hear both at the same time (not that after the 15 seconds they mix) Curiously, even if at first they don't sound similar at all, the second phase's song DOES mix with Fierce BAttle (aka, the phase 1 song), which Soken said he based upon the second phase song. Also, if anything, the second phase song reminds me of many DMC songs, not WWC. I'm still waiting for PM5K to say the same about Capcom and the DMC saga. Oh, and yeah, the Fiend ALWAYS was called Sephirot. They reused the name (along with the angelic motiffs and the whole "militar guy go crazy and decides to destroy the world to gain unlimited power") in the FF VII. I like FF VII Sephirot, but there is a reason why so many fans compare him to Kefka and find him... lacking.

+DracoHandsome Not localization. Sephirot is an actual western name for a sacred tree. Which is referenced in the dialogue as the patron deity of the tree-like race of Meracydians that "created" Sephirot with prayer. And in VI, even in Japan, he was called Fiend. The concept name was omitted to give them a more "distant" vibe, by them having no names, only their titles. It was not a localization change. Square's localization does fuck up. But this is not one of them.
