Such a good recap! ♡ Normally I remember the story pretty well, but this time I started the new raid quest for the final tier, and had absolutely no clue what was happening 😅 After watching the entire recap, I realized I remembered literally everything BUT the final few seconds - which is of course where the story of the final part starts 😓

Tbh i expect them to have created the whole raid tier just because of Lahabrea being a sub par character so far and the Heart of Sabik being the most random neglected thing in the whole story. I think they just as much as the fans wanted to have answers for all that stuff and the raid was the perfect opportunity, because they clearly want to be done with all the Ascian stuff tbf

The memory crystal forged from Hephaistos makes me believe that the Lahabrea we've known since ARR was actually him the whole time. Note that it looks like a proper crystal meant for the Convocation, and not the plain one we see at the start of this storyline. I believe that it may be this half of Lahabrea's memories stored away - it would explain the stark contrast between the Lahabrea we see in ARR/Heavensward and the one we see here in a way more interesting than "He went mad lol."

There are a few interesting details that makes me think. When Ericthonios is transformed, he has Lahabrea's glyph incorporated into the concept's design. He does mention it in an optional line, noting how it is curious. Additionally, there is an exchange between Themis and Lahabrea, where Themis comments that after Lahabrea fell in love with Athena, Ericthonios was born shortly after. There is a notable pause before Lahabrea responds. In the classical mythos, Ericthonios is the son of Hephaistos. However, the method of creation is interesting: Hephaistos's... let's call it "genetic material" ends up on Athena's leg (Gotta love the Olympians). She brushes it off, onto the ground. Where it landed, Ericthonios manifested. Now that we know of this mythos, what does this mean? My personal guess is that Ericthonios is not the son of Hephaistos, but a _clone._ Quite possibly one of the first successes of Athena in creating a new soul.

Nice, that theory works out. I also still think one of the coolest ways this story can end which i expected from the first moment seeing lahabreas mask on Erics model is that he IS our ARR-Lahabrea, because at the end of our storyline the current Lahabrea dies somehow (maybe a whole noble sacrifice thing). And then Eric steps up in the role of his fathers and becomes the Lahabrea we know and hate in ARR. Reads like fanfiction tho lmao Of course all that doesnt make sense if we just go in the pandaemonium in our current time and fight a bunch of creatures

@@TheBachKornett I don't think Ericthonios is going to be Lahabrea. I think we already know where Ericthonios's soul ended up: he was sundered, returned to the lifestream, and resurrected over and over through the millennia... and nowadays his soul goes by the name Claudien. That would explain why the professor is the only one who can hear and understand the crystal, wouldn't it?

Interesting to note that in phase 2 he tries to get the players to create the concept of a true phoenix, and after you succeed he just laughs in glee and begins enrage. Everything leading up to it was just an experiment, you were supposed to defeat them. I thought that was an amazing way to tie in the story to, very interested to see where the story goes as a new player.

This was a great recap, and I want to highlight especially how you used the music in the background! The seamless shift from Silent Scream to Scream was so satisfying Also it would be fun to hear the conjecture too, perhaps at the end of the recap proper! Personally I hope Emet-Selch shows up once more and the presence of Emet, Elidibus and Lahabrea in Pandemonium gives a more compelling reason for why they managed to dodge the sundering than ”Venat knew they were left unsundered so she didn’t sunder them”.

Quite sad that nothing in FF14 'lore' if you want to call that giant mess this word, fits together. One reason is of course, that they shamelessly steal from other FF and Square games without any effort to really implement it. Much worse is the fact, that the protagonists are absolutely bland Mary Sues and all possibly intersting lore is destroyed by that. Everything the original, un-slaughtered and un-tortured life could have been is obliterated by that pinnacle of lazy writing. Same fo everyone else like the Garleans and all, what in the end also ruins the whole story and lore. It's good enough as a shallow power fantasy of a five years old, the levelin which a child just imagines to be always right and always wins, no matter how wrong. The only way for FF14 to go would have been to have been the bad guys all along, unknowingly, sure, since overall the protagonists just follow a giant nothing into mass murder and warmongering without care (of course that's a crime itself and no excuse, like all the germans who came up with "Oh no, we didnd't know about that" after 2.WW). Whitewashing planetare genocide and even worse brutal distortion and torturing of life all to create a (ridiculosly stupid) endfight against a planet eating bird on the back of your (also ruined by bad writing) arch enemy (who wants to fight you all the time, while it is the only thing he never forces you to - yeah, makes sense...) is one of the most disgusting things I've seen in a story for a long time. There are few stories which got a more disgusting story on itself, but those at least don't try to whitewash, so they are still better. Problem isn't to have a genocide in fiction, problem is if you sell it as fine and right, like Goebbels himself. And especially as a company from Japan, the country which was the asian equivalents to Nazi germany, this is very unacceptable. This alone will always be the basis for all FF4 'lore' (as little as there is) and taint everything and of course also makes everything else about the real life pretty worthless. Afterall: no matter what, they were slaughtered, ripped apart, tortured for millenia and are now dying rests, because this chaos can of course not survive, how should this be possible, even more with the Satan that did this gone. The shards will continue to die, since they did this all the time anyway by the bleeding imbalance the murder of the planet had caused. Without the control of the ancients to then lead this live back to become part of the core shard, they will just become ruined worlds or cease to exist and this overall is what FF14 protagonists are fighting for. Afterall: they clearly don't want the world to be saved and healed. If they would, there would have been no reason to fight those who went for that and tried to end the torture and distortion of life.
