FFXIV Player Quits And Tries WoW

In this video I am giving my first impressions for World for Warcraft after quitting Ffxiv and finally giving it a try. I am mostly sharing the new players experience and could make a separate video for the endgame. I am very excited to see the games direction with the release of dragonflight as it could easily become one of my main games.

Blizzard piloted the Covenant system in Shadowlands. Letting each player join a sub-faction. Though the Covenant content wasn't interesting, it did work as a system for players to break up the old Horde and Alliance (without eliminating them) and create a more dynamic system of smaller factions interacting with each other. But all of that is still very new. It would solve a lot of problems for Blizzard in the future of WoW.

@@defsel978 This is only in open world content and quite often u spawn very close to ur death and can quickly rez with no penalty. u can be rezed if u dont press release spirit. Class like warlock can rez themselves for a second life. In dungeons and raids and pvp u can be rezzed or u can respawn instantly with no debuffs but u just have to run a little but u are not a ghost. It can for sure be frustrating the open world death system but i also like it because there is a penalty for dying which makes fights more intense. if the game is too easy it will be overall less satisfying.

faction system for parties is dead~ sort of well, there is cross faction play for instanced content. (dungeons, Raids, Battlegrounds) the game is soo much better with cross faction. only thing you really need to worry about factions is if you plan on joining a guild that is pushing high end content. and even then it only really matters for Raids and being able to freely trade items. and maybe if you wanted to do world story content with a friend on a specific faction.

the death walk is because of the pvp aspect of wow. if you can find ways to grief your opponent (make them fall off the world or mind control them into really hard to reach places, it forces them to rez at the spirit guide)

@@KingBobbito when wow was first made it was very big on world pvp, they still try to make it happen but it doesn't happen as much as it used to

​@@KingBobbitobecause it give freedom and world building. Back then you tell your faction on chat so they gank them up for your revenge :)). Beside, it only matter on contested territory (npc on both side are present, better quest, better dungeon). If u dont like it u can just go to a your faction territory or play pve server. Beside the game is design and balance with death walk so that u have to be careful and must group up or go some where else and lv up first. It create a barrier between zone naturally instead of just not letting player go there.

U only HAve to play horde if u wanna do top tier mythic raiding in a guild... which for a new player is impossible unless ur just insanely good for some reason. Also the faction system doesnt effect like wait times, its shared and even more so now when we have way more cross faction stuff, just join a high pop alliance server so ur world isnt empty.

Just know that in Dragonflight pre-patch the death penalty was reduced to 1 minute. You take a bigger gear durability hit, but you stat squish is 1 minute long if you talk to the spirit healer to revive.

I recently moved over to WoW from FFXIV and been having lots of fun. It's good to have knowledge in both to make an apt comparison but I really don't feel there needs to be a competition between both games. They offer very different experience from one another.

I agree, competition is good in the way that companies can keep improving their games. However you are right there is an insane amount of tribalism in mmo communities.

Cool, l was never able to suffer the graphics of wow, even on the best settings the game would feel like a bizarre lego configuration. However gameplay wise it seemed well thought and designed, accessible to anyone new to mmos,wow or both.

Many mmos have to have shit graphics to support the huge worlds, huge number of players and effects. i think wow art style is great and lets it have a very big world with little restrictions. Ive played ff14 and the graphics are definetly better u could say but i do prefer the art style of wow overall. In ff14 as well a lot more load screens and stuff. in Wow u can fly for like 25 mins in one direction without a load screen

Wow literally has the single best fighting mechanics out of all MMOs on the market. Every. Single. One. Plus it's graphics are superior. The cartoonish style is a staple of wow and has been since the warcraft 1 rts. I personally can not stand any graphics like ff14, they just look off and ugly.

The only thing I prefer over FFXIV is the pvp wow does pvp really well other then that FFXIV has the better story and endgame pve.

I enjoyed ffxiv's pvp a lot at least Feast and played for a few seasons however I can see it has a lot of issues even now that they have changed it. Sadly there is always that small lag between actions which fundamentally makes pvp not very good.

I do expect Wow to also move away from faction vs faction in the future, but I think alliance and horde are so baked into their codebase that it's difficult to change. Factions are cool if thats the type of game you are making, but wow is no longer that game.

I've heard horde has an advantage over alliance especially in raiding that's why people choose that. But I could be wrong of course.

@@defsel978 Alliance and Horde have very similar populations, but at high end raiding it dramatically favors Horde. HOWEVER, they recently opened things up about 5-6 months ago where you can now play cross faction in pretty much all circumstances. The only exception is open world stuff which isn't a big deal, and guilds are still faction locked (although they are working on that). As far as classes go, Warrior is a good beginner class, as are most. Demon Hunter should either be unlocked now or unlock when you get a bit higher level and would be a lot of fun for you as well - it's very mobile and has a tank and dps specialization that both have cool mechanics. The only classes I wouldn't recommend to new players in Dragonflight are monk and Evoker as they have a pretty high skillcap and take a lot of research to figure out how to play well. As far as races go, racials don't matter too much but matter more than they do in Final Fantasy. Blood Elves are generally very good due to Arcane Torrent dispelling magic effects on enemies, but most races have a small dps racial thats either a passive or active ability, and a utility racial or two (goblins can summon a bank to them and also have a rocket jump, void elves have a teleport, tauren have a stun-stomp etc). There are also Allied Races which came out a couple expansions ago - tl;dr, once you have a level 50+ character you can do some of the questlines for Allied Races if you have certain content complete. There are 5 horde allied races and 5 alliance allied races; Lightforged Draenai, Kul'tiran Humans, Mechagnomes, Void Elves and Dark Iron Dwarves for Alliance, and Zandalari Trolls, Highmountain Tauren, Vulpera, Nightborne and Mag'har Orcs for Horde.

It’s actually rather split. Alliance has a very hard time with higher end content group forming. These would be mythic + and mythic raiding. It’s not that it doesn’t happen, it’s that most of the pve talent is on the horde side. They introduced cross faction groups recently for mythic + and some raiding. What you can’t do though is use the auto dungeon group finder where it queues you into the instance. You have to build your group manually in the looking for group tool.

You are wrong. Horde and alliance is super important. Having 2 faction fighting each other makes for great world pvp.

It certainly has its limitations. There are a lot of 2 faction world pvp hold outs. Open World PvP died nearly 6 years ago and officially when War Mode toggle was introduced in Battle for Azeroth.

I love both games, but I'm playing WoW currently. I enjoy the combat in WoW much more and Dragonflight has improved upon the PvE experience IMO. I haven't played FFXIV since Shadowbringers, but I felt like both PvE and PvP left a lot to be desired at that point. Dragon riding in WoW is amazingly fun as well. I wish there was housing, RP, and crafting on the level of FFXIV available in WoW, but since combat is the core of my experience as an MMO player, I'm favoring WoW at the moment.

Welcome to WoW. I love Final Fantasy BTW. I've been a huge fan of the series ever since my parents rented me the first game from a Blockbuster in the 80's. I didn't know what the hell I was doing. I had no idea how to play the game but I LOVED the story. So as a fan of Final Fantasy I tried FF14 and did enjoy it. People on there were certainly much nicer and accommodating than on WoW but the battle felt really slow for me... so I quit and went back to WoW. 😕 FF14 does a lot of things I wish WoW would do though like the housing system. I thought that was freagin' cool and the storytelling is WAY better. Anyway, hope you enjoy your stay in WoW. Dragonflight is supposed to be a huge improvement to prior expansions with content and story so hopefully it'll be enough to keep yo around. 😊

Thanks! ff14 was the first final fantasy for me but I played a bit of 13, 10 and 15 afterwards. I agree there are a lot of things I wish ffxiv would copy from WoW.

The death system of final fantasy annoyed me way more in the sense that I had to waste time and money to travel back to where ever I was and it took more time in general. In wow I could just head back to my body in less than a minute and continue what I was doing as soon as I ressed. I'm pretty sure the death penalty was only if you ressed at the grave yard but if you ress at your body there's no penalty. Plus the recent death penalty change is amazing from 10 mins to 1 but more of your gear gets damaged. Dying in final fantasy made me turn it off one time because I was so close to finishing my quest, but after dying I had to fast travel 2 times and walk for 10 minutes just for one more kill. 🙃 I tried playing FFXIV for a year but all it did was made me appreciate wow more.

@@no_way_I_care I did that at first but since I go back to town more often than I died it just made me travel more often than if I was to leave it in town, it's hard to die to something randomly if you're paying attention so setting my home point in the zone just on the slim chance I'm gonna died just would waste time in the long run

factions are one of the main reason i play wow and hate hate hate ff14. ff14 has no sense of world, it feel small. ff14 just feels like you are a mindless drone at an office meeting. the different factions make wow 10x superior. wow has allowed you to group up with people of the opposite faction for dungeons/raids because canonically they take place outside of the main lore. however wows faction lore makes it so much more interesting than ff14s "look everyone gets along cause we are cucks and everything is rainbows"
