This fight represents two elements close to each other, light and ice. The three voces you can hear in this song is one for ice which is shiva, one for light which is hyadelyn the goddess of light and Ryne the girl which had the dumbest plan on earth by trying to channel both elements inside her while thinking it would be alright

Well let's be fair he was talking about the draken dress, which is still accurate because the first thing she does is freaking Ahk Morn, and that Ahk Morn is a mix from other version we've seen thus far, Bahamut & Shinryu Ahk Morn is a multi hit tank stack tank buster, Nidhog and Midgardsommer Ahk Morn is a multi hit party stack, this one is a multi hit split light party stack targeting both tanks, and the cherry on top is she does Morn Afah right after which is single hit heavy damage party stack.

Actually, it's a bit of both. Footsteps in the Snow is Saint Shiva's theme, whereas Oblivion is Ysayle's Shiva and Return to Oblivion is Ryne's Shiva. But all three versions are different interpretations of The Maker's Ruin, the WoL theme.

Fun fact: This was the music used for one of the most notoriously difficult endgame fights in Shadowbringers, so many raiders like myself heard it quite a lot. The music starts partway into the fight during a transition (3:20 in the video is where it actually starts in the fight) and from there on, the fight is actually synced with the song. Everything that is going on in the fight is timed to the beat of the music. I never got tired of listening to this song because it was quite literally what kept my alive during my dozens of clears.

I will continue my trend and let others talk about the music. "Does she have a dragon for an arm" Yes, that would be Hraesvelgr, same dragon as the white one in the footage for Dragonsong. He is the dragon that came flying in to the platform, creating somewhat of a.. Diorama of the past? It symbolizes the union between them and you might ask why if it was not explained (if it was, feel free to ignore the rest), time to explain the gist. You have already heard the story as Dragonsong is about just this pair, a human woman and a dragon who simply loved each other, anything else be damned; but her life was short, her people's memories shorter.. She wanted to be with him forever, so she said eat me... literally. As the lyrics at the start go: "Children of the land, do you hear? Echoes of truths that once rang clear. Two souls intertwined, one true love they did find, bringing land and heavens near." of course the song covers more, but i only terrorise my family on facebook with novel sized posts. But well, this is not Shiva herself of course, this is another person summoning the primal Shiva into herself for very good and totally not 4head reasons. Primals are a fervent belief in a person or being made manifest, be it a beast tribe's god or just a normal person who people believe strongly in for some reason. Take any person who once lived or even is just believed to have lived even if fiction, say.. King Arthur, if our world worked like it does in ff14, (see Thordan for an in universe equivalent) you would be able to summon a primal version of king Arthur simply because his story is so ubiquitous. Escalate this thought as far as you want.

Keep in mind going forward when listening to FF music regarding bosses especially if it's another version, listen out for the motif of the songs, for this example there is a part from the first version Oblivion that was immediately played in the intro to Return to Oblivion, (from oblivion when the vocals sing "for the last time" to the intro of return to oblivion). This is also true for the first phase of the Shiva fight theme, the composers always do this type of thing for songs and themes where there is a connection to other songs. It's not always clear but it definitely exists. More obvious examples are Titan's themes, and Ramuh's themes. Also the remark about there being a conflict with instruments holds up well for the story of this particular boss, also something the composer does with a lot of themes.

Don't worry, it's very apparent how hard you're working! I can't imagine how emotionally draining it must be to go through all of these and maintain a certain standard of entertainment. Thank you for keeping it consistently genuine! This isn't a reaction request (it would quite possibly be the worst one you could ever do), but if you ever need music to sit back and chill (and accidentally fall asleep) to after a huge block of content creation such as this, you should give "The Warrens" from ff14 a shot. Hope it helps bring you as much peace as it does me if you decide to check it out!

It's amazing how you got the keyword "Conflict" without any context of the story. It's great as I myself got to enjoy all the meaning behind the music that match the story. But it's even more when you don't know any bits of the story yet you got the accurate message. And this is not the first time.

This song is so dirty. The "that sound" part you mentioned? gives me goosebumps. I think honestly that's another part of the challenge to this game: being able to defeat bosses and such when you're too busy grooving out to the music! You try keeping your damage up on the boss, dodging attacks, all while headbanging like an unpaid Jim Carrey impersonator dancing to "what is love?"

First off, I love that you do this so much. I'm a music nut and a gamer, and one of the things I find myself doing is gushing about music in games to my non-music nut friends and like, this is definitely scratching that itch of getting to hear another music lover's perspective on these pieces that I fiercely enjoy(once my job situation is stable I totally want to support). Perspective from someone who has played/is playing the game: one of the themes going on in this fight/game scene is that the girl is being overwhelmed by memories and emotions that aren't her own, to the point that she's attacking the players(just MMO things). The fact that the music is swelling and overwhelming the vocals goes along with the theme of losing yourself in a moment, imho. I just. I adore this song so much. Like you said, so many LAYERS.

So one fun thing, the first phase of this Shiva fight also uses Footsteps in the Snow, the first phase from the original fight. And Return to Oblivion begins on the sound of the 'for the last time, i won't say goodbye' from the original Oblivion. So while the first one was a character affirming their choice to fight, this song is about this character's confusion as to who she is supposed to be moving forward. She's rapidly switching between other people's conceptions of the primal Shiva, Hydaelen, and in savage the actual historical Shiva and her lover Hraesvelgr.

For me the biggest problem for the longest of times was that I couldn't spot any melodical reference to the original version so I didn't want to like the song. But over time I just came to accept that this song is really good and once I started to listen to the lyrics I realised it's more connected through them and I started to connect to the song similarly like with Oblivion. Its a little tricky bc Soken make it super distinct thats why most people don't catch it wherte are "similar" parts. I understand why Jessy wasn't catch them [bc he wasn't watch first phase of shiva], but its a little suprise to see that some players don't catch this small "steps" x). Its only shows how great job was Soken make. btw i want to see how Jessy react on La hee [Soken from Fanfest] after make reaction to "Civilizations", if he jump in first into "La Hee" he can don't understand how tricky was Soken xD,

This song absolutely rules, I'm glad you got to it! One of the best things about these songs is that they're amazing songs from a musician perspective, a listener perspective, and if the song has lyrics then with context the lyrics are probably heart-wrenching. I really appreciate the comment about the vocal mix not being as prominent here. Thinking over the other songs in Shadowbringers, there's a number of other songs in Shadowbringers that have similar mixes, like "Insatiable", "To the Edge" and "What Angel Wakes Me", whereas songs like the Shadowbringer main theme and "Civilizations" (La-hee!) are definitely more vocal forward. I wonder if this is stylistic preference of Soken's, or designed as a means to ensure the lines spoken in-game by the raid bosses are clear above the background music.
@SalaHyena
@SalaHyena 2 жыл бұрын
The way I like to describe the vocals being "in the back" like this is something that I like to describe as "Using the vocals as an instrument, not the centerpiece. Normally you can take vocals out of a song and call it "instrumental" but it's still a pretty complete package. Not in this case. Listening to an instrumental version of this song would be like listening to a version of the song where you've removed the guitar or mixed out the bass. It just doesn't hold too well together. I'm looking forward to you reacting to the songs from the Alexander raids. I know people have requested Brutal Justice theme already, but there's great many songs in those raids that I think you should listen to in the same sequence as you encounter them in raids. So while Brute Justice's theme is earlier on in the raids, in the last raidtier there's the second to last boss with his theme "Exponential Entropy" that has a very iconic song, and the very last boss of the entire raidseries has 2 themes with phase 1 and phase 2 theme with a really nice and epic transition between them. Phase 2 theme even has a mechanic in the fight that's part of the song. Yes I'm kind of requesting you to react to an entire raid series's themes in sequence, but hey, you can always say no, it's not like you are under any obligation to follow orders from a random comment on KZbin. But... Please? :>

"She looks deadly." Man, you got no idea, that ain't even her final form. The light ain't rampant yet. That said, almost every boss theme has some relation to the actual boss itself, so there's that. Ryne (the boss here) is basically struggling to regain control of the aether she's absorbed here. That's a super rough explanation of the lyrics, so to speak, but it makes more sense with context. Anyways, I still suggest Ultima (primals). Not for any particular reason, it's just a favourite of mine.

There is a bit of footsteps in the snow in the song which is the Phase 1 original Shiva song. But yeah, the whole extended song like this for Return to Oblivion isn't heard unless you progress the Savage difficulty fight The normal mode usually ends too early. There are even some songs you never hear when you get drops into a new phase in savage fights. That is a big reason for doing the harder end game raiding. Just to get the awesome music when you complete a phase and it transitions and you get an epic drop into the new part of the fight.

This is such a big A Realm Reborn and Heavensward callback with Shiva and Hraesvelgr... Anytime I finish Eden turn 8, I listen to Dragonsong and cry again. Also, not so basic synopsis: in the base story, we meet Ysayle who acts as a vessel for the summoning of the ice elemental Primal, Shiva, which is unusual because Primals are just summoned and are beings of pure Aether, but things are revealed about that. Shiva was originally a priestess that was in love with the dragon Hraesvelgr, so her summoning is more a collection of memories. In Shadowbringers, we use a MacGuffin that can restore elemental balance to the area known as The Empty, and for this boss, our little lady friend Ryne offers herself to be the vessel of Shiva, and more Heavensward iconography ensues with her boss phase with wings and a dragon head arm being a direct allusion to the love between Shiva and Hraesvelgr that the song Dragonsong is about.

Ah Return to Oblivion finally. This fight was pretty hard in the savage version (higher difficulty) of the fight because of a single mechanic. And dancing like crazy to "return to oblivion" wasnt making later parts of the fight easier XD

I was wondering when you'd get around to reacting to this piece of musical genius. I meant to recommend this in the last video I commented on however I had a loss of event and it escaped me. When it showed in my feed that you had, in fact, reacted to it I was like "YES!"

What's going on with the lyrics and the game: I'm not going to explain the Eden story line, but it takes place after saving a world from a Flood of Light and the fact you needed to become the Warrior of Darkness to restore night to the world that was on the edge of ruin from everlasting light. This story line takes place in the aftermath, and one of your companions, Ryne, chooses to embody Shiva to help you release Ice Aether, the last of the 6 elements, to restore balance to the lost sections of the world. The Lyrics echo Ysalye's perspective from taking a primal in, and despite having immunity to the corrupting influences, the Primal's try to take over. Ysayle's version was created based on her belief's of a myth of the original Shiva, who was the love of the white dragon of the first brood, Hrasevelgar. When you summon the Heritors, the Primals you use to restore the world of Norvrandt, each one is impacted by your own experiences from all the battles after. Ryne looses control when she takes on Shiva, and is constantly oscillating between her role as the Oracle of Light, The Ice Maiden Shiva, and Shiva's role as the love of Hraesvelgar. She becomes a danger as her combination of Ice, Light, and Dragon powers could reignite the Flood of Light. With the help of Gaia, Oracle of Darkness, you manage to help her regain control and defeat her to restore Ice Aether to finish the balancing job.

So while it's awesome that you watched original oblivion before this because this song references it both in lyrics and one leitmotif, Return to Oblivion actually makes references to both Oblivion (Shiva Phase 2) AND Footsteps in the Snow (Shiva Phase 1). I'll also add that seeing the way the phase change is synced up with the music change may add some cool (hehe) context to it. I love your reactions man! Keep em up!

The Savage version of this fight is my favorite fight in the entirety of ff14, if only just because the phase transition to this song is exactly long enough that when you take control again, its at 1:48. That drop into the synth got me pumped EVERY TIME during that phase even when we were constantly wiping. Alot of others got annoyed because of the length of the transition, but for me, it was the best part of that entire fight was that drop. Makes me wanna go and play that fight again just for that rush again.

Hey, I've been watching your reactions as of late and enjoying them. I was hyped for this particular reaction. One of my favourite things in this song is how "icy" it sounds at times (like the notes in minute 1:22-1:24-1:26-1:28-1:30 and so on in this video), like you're inside an icy crystal cavern or a glacier. And then the "turn the light on" part is also amazing. On another note, I'd like to suggest a reaction to Azys Lla's theme (Order yet undeciphered) if possible.

So, I'm coming back to this months later for the first time after actually doing this fight and the remark you made about the vocals feeling kinda mixed "away" as it were feels... narratively significant. (Spoilers for the Eden raids and all incoming) So the fight has a lot going on with it from a narrative standpoint as a character you've known and seen grow into her own attempts to command the power of a god to help revitalize what is effectively a dead world, but... quickly finds herself in over her head. So while you're fighting to keep the power of said god from causing a second apocalypse, she's fighting to try and regain control, which I feel is kinda perfectly encapsulated with how the vocals kinda swim in and out of the focus of the song as if struggling to stay afloat.

I literally have like a million tabs open for JUST your FFXIV reactions! The music is insane. I also personally loved this over the first Oblivion. They definitely went for a different feel with this one for sure! And dude, I know this isn't a really popular series, but if you could ever react to a song from the JRPG series The Legend of Heroes: Trails, it would make my day. You'd find that perhaps a decent number of your fans are into it! I'm sure this isn't requested maybe at all, but man. That series has some certified bangers. Off the top of my head, there's Great Power, Phantasmal Blaze, Atrocious Raid (Super Arrange Version), Belief (Super Arrange Version), Exceed!, Severe Blow, and Blue Destination from Trails of Cold Steel I&II. There's also the Ys series from the same developer that also is no slouch. A particular track that I keep going back to over and over again is called Hope Alive from Ys VIII.

I'm sure people have probably already asked for some music from Nier Replicant, but I'd love to hear your thoughts on some of the tracks from Nier Gestalt (which is the original version of the game). The Replicant OST is great, though it leans more towards sweeping orchestral fantasy music while Gestalt has a stronger focus on percussion with a more overall somber tone that I feel fits the game really well. Maybe you could do some side by side videos for the same tracks across both games sometime? Or maybe just one video comparing and contrasting between the two versions. As for the actual songs, I'm sure people have already requested Song of the Ancients, but I think both "Shadowlord" and "Blu-Bird" are also great representations of the OST.

Return to oblivion is from the Eden raid series in shadowbringer. Without spoiling, you're mostly just fighting against your past bosses, so all the tracks are remixes of prior boss tracks, and if course, return to oblivion is for Eden Shiva, and a fan favorite, I imagine because the savage version of the fight is a bit notorious for being hard as shit at release. Fun fight though.

Until I watched this video, I didn't realize that that merger in the cutscene happened, which is actually super important to the context of this fight. I was too busy trying to not die to the boss's actually fairly difficult mechanics haha.

Shiva is easily the most iconic Summon/God/Primal/Eidolon in the franchise. She may not be always the most powerful or threatening but always hold some importance for the stories.
