I will never forgive Twitter for what they did to JoCat man
@MelvaCross7 ай бұрын
These guides are deceptively helpful. A lot of former WoW players make avoidable mistakes because FFXIV works differently. And JoCat adresses a lot of these bad habits. A lot of tanks new to FFXIV run around like headless chickens because they think they can dodge auto-attacks. Doing this will make melee DPS lose damage because they can't hit their attacks with positional requirements. New healers keep the party at 100% and don't DPS which wastes everyone's time AND it sandbags the party in high-end content with enrages. The only HP that matters is the last. Keeping the party alive is the bare minimum, good healers deal damage 90% of the time and let their healing abilities/oGCDs do most of the work. Jocat often emphasised how you should keep the other party members in mind. Not running around as tanks is for the DPS players. Stop attacking to dodge AoEs is making life easier for healers. Goal of this game is to finish your duties and do so as quickly as possible. Playing the best you can, giving it your all and keeping your party members in mind is what every player should do. Doing maximum damage, even as a healer, even when it's harder, is the polite thing to do.

No joke - I got Stone Vigil yesterday as a tank, and the healer told me to pull wall to wall, then blamed me for dying. Their reasoning? I didn't kite enough. I was so flabbergasted i sent screenshots to my omni-90 tank main FC leader, wondering if there was some secret tank strat I'm missing. He was equal parts incredulous and annoyed on my behalf.
@Marekthejester6 ай бұрын
@@Laterose15 Wall to wall stone vigil is doable but it will take your healer all their ressource to keep you alive assuming the tank play optimally. Needless to say your healer wasn't up to the task and blamed you instead.

@@Marekthejester Yeah, stone vigil is at that level range that's a very special pain because our favorite buttons just don't work (yet); also, some of those mobs just don't play nice (damnit stop spitting at me, come on over if you dare!).
@MelvaCross6 ай бұрын
@@Marekthejester This is a perfect example of how important proper communication is. Stone Vigil has always been infamous for its pulls. But it got really bad over the years because healers have fewer and fewer tools at low levels. And less powerful ones, too. The difference between toolkits between the release of ARR and now is staggering. But tanks don't know that. A good healer would have communicated that. Communication is such a powerful thing in an MMO. And this healer refused to use it. And when they got around to use it, they used it incorrectly... While kiting probably could have worked, it's slower than properly pulling small packs and group them, so the AoE abilites hit every target. In the end, not only did this healer fail to ask for small pulls before or after the wipe, they also wasted the time and nerves of their fellow party members by giving unsolicited and incorrect advice.

I have all level capped classes, and am a veteran player since 2.0. I am a paladin main who paladin mains so hard that I even got the jobstone tattooed into my forearm right under my tonberry. I HATE playing with WoW refugees for this very reason. I abandoned WoW when MOP dropped. But when I stepped into FF14, I left that behind. I've been playing literally since 2.0, before Heavenward even dropped. I've seen so many frustrating players that it isn't even funny. Healers who won't DPS, scholars using physick (I am not even joking sadly) in level 80+ content, Tanks who don't know how to use their aoes, and black mages who decide that they want to "roleplay as an ice wizard" 😑 I once even witness a mofo tell someone to go kill themselves because they were playing black mage and forgot to use thunder for the dot. The thing is, I think the people who do these things are likely trolls who enjoy and get their kicks out of making other people's lives harder. I am not a healer main by any stretch, nor even an expert, but I can wall to wall heal even in level 90 content. It isn't that hard. And tanks... Oh, tanks... In FF14 I almost always dread trying to play any other class but tank, because the amount of times I end up in a duty with a mofo who refuses to use his aoes kind of makes me rage. Unlike in other games, tank in FF14 doesn't even need you to use emnity gain abilities. You literally just have to make sure you have tank stance on and are smacking everything. Aoe, aoe, aoe! Generally speaking, if I see someone in a duty who is doing something that is dumb or incorrect, I will attempt to kindly guide them. Like, "hey, tank, could you please use your aoes to make sure you're hitting everything and keeping aggro?" And if they wish to continue to be difficult, then I vote kick. And I won't move an inch until they are kicked. Considering that I am usually the tank, that means they go. The problem is that FF14 is a team player kind of game. There are many who play with a selfish, solo mentality. That being said, the FF14 community is, as a whole, one of the best and kindest communities that there is! Don't let the occasional jack wagon ruin it for you; most FF14 players are some of the chillest and most helpful people you'll ever meet.

And there have been a few times where I would be the dps in a low lvl dungeon, like lvl 15-20 low and I’d be standing in face to face with the healer who would be standing there writing for the Tanks hp bar to go down to half being tossing a heal to them. By the halfway point. They’d usually figure out I was just staring at the healer for not doing ANYTHING and they’d either leave and we’d get a new one or they’d be forced to dps with us and not just stand there and follow us like a bot.

NO!!! NOT EVERYONE IS A DPS!!!!! Get jocats nonsense out of your mind especially you healers. You along with tanks only dps in VERY niche circumstances, so niche in fact I can take the lowest dps in the game and mop the ever loving crap out of you in any type of game content anywhere. One thing I will say is a term I've developed for healers is you don't want to become what I call a "Panic caster" which is someone who sees a party or raid member half dead and about to be slapped by yet another unavoidable damage attack from the boss and you're too busy casting your healer damage abilities forcing you to blow instant casts to get them high enough so when they do get slapped they're right back to square one.....don't be that guy or gal
@owenwells76927 ай бұрын
Spoken like someone who has zero idea how to play an FF14 healer. Unless you're doing low-level content where you don't get any of your off-global heals OGCDs are what you should be using for your heals as often as possible. Why should you do that? so you can add additional dps, which is needed no matter how much you look down on it. Unless all you ever do is basic dungeons what you call panic casting is actually the best way to do it because it doesn't tie up your cooldown with healing spells, allowing you to use it for damage instead, which makes the dungeon go faster, which means you have less need to heal.
@for_the_lore55677 ай бұрын
Three worst mistakes a healer can do: 1. Focus on keeping the party "topped off" over eliminating the enemy. You are allowing the enemy more time to injure your party. 2. Casting Heal over time spells, like Regen between and right before mob pulls. You are wasting the part of the duration of the spell healing someone actively regenerating/already fully healed while also risking unnecessary aggro pull. 3. Not prioritizing OGCD healing spells, if they aren't put on cooldown they are not being used efficiently. The GC healing spell should be saved for when there are no OGCD's off cooldown.
@lionwhyte___26347 ай бұрын
@owenwells7692 Spoken like someone who has zero common sense. Want to know what makes the dungeon go slower? Having to stop and relax or wait for the party members who died due to YOU prioritizing DPS over your main roles responsibility and if this is the lesson the game teaches you then I'm glad I don't play the game anymore seeing as it's a stupid lesson especially considering by the time you are geared to even enter high end content raiding in the game that even at the highest difficulty the dungeon offers it isn't a threat and the DPS if playing as if they were hung over are more than qualified and capable to damage the mobs and bosses in no time. If you're playing a MMO, especially one the lead designer himself stated isn't meant to be rushed through but taken your time with and enjoyed, then you're playing the wrong game and should look at others to play instead. But it's OK, bad players are players too and you and the 2 people who supported your nonsense can improve over time. P.S. If your stance on this is that you can do your job effectively while disregarding the main gimmick behind your classes design then let's take this to an extreme example; tank player turn off your tank stance since your DPS alone should be able to garner and hold threat by itself according to this person
@for_the_lore55677 ай бұрын
@@lionwhyte___2634 Your stance contains no form of sense common or otherwise. Owenwells never implied that the healer should disregard healing so your P.S. comparison is nonsensical on premise in regard to the subject matter. You seem to be under the preconception that a healer is incapable of healing the party while also performing dps. This is completely false, most of a healers time is spent attacking the enemy, especially if the rest of the party is effective with using mitigation and avoiding telegraphed damage. There is no "stop and relax" due to natural regen between mobs and you won't have to "wait for party members who died" if you are effective at weaving healing spells in between attacks. The only time the party "rushes" a dungeon is when the tank decides to pull wall-to-wall. Keeping every party member at full health at ALL times will only result in you emptying your MP reserve and increase the risk of being able to do anything when you need it or require the party to stop progress completely so you can replenish your drained reserves.

@for_the_lore5567 The only thing that is nonsensical is your retort to my own. Never once did I say that a healer should NEVER prioritize DPS but the fact of the subject matter is that the original poster stated that is their main focus and NOT doing that will likely end up in frustration and wipes....it will not. And if it did something is very VERY VERY wrong with the dps. You could wake me up from a drunken stupor and I can do the rotations on the classes I played effective enough that the content I'm doing isn't an issue. Let's break down the gameplay health bar into 4 sections: healthy, fine, injured and critical injured would be 50-25% and critical would be 25% or below. A healer as effectively as possible should try and keep the parties hp pool at around "fine" marker or 75% this is the minimum requirement needed to survive an AoE from a raid or dungeon boss that isn't avoidable, thus is the ideal healers need and should strive for. My metaphor and example of a tank not tanking with stance on and trying to maintain aggro is just as silly as a healer saying they're going to heal by focusing solely on DPS which is what the poster claimed and that's just plain insanity. But I surmise for someone of your....questionable intellect my reasons would come off as "silly"
