Btw this is totally missable but the robotic frame Sir used to galavant around in Endwalker to mope around is Omega's original body. Omega mentioned that their original name is M-017 and if you go back to the cutscenes with the disguised Sir, he is introduced as M-017.

this is one of the best if not best side quest of XIV ... the same goes for "The Paths We Walk" from Hevensward ... the reexamining of the journey and your choices ... Pan Galactic Basic is basically like a common language you have in many fantasy ... so its not specifically the language of omicrons ... its made so that you dont know where the message comes from so you can interpret it as you want, it could have been a final sigh of hope form one of the Omicron, alternatively it came from an civilization that is out there, that yet still hopes, or at least had someone with hope at the time of the message being sent ...

The last part when the message is revealed and, despite it being a simple message, it carrying such a weight after all the events made me legit tear up and my heart sink in. The scene of them looking at the sky and Omega ranting on his new objective is just so masterfully done (as the last scene of the Omega raids itself of Alpha and Omega exploring Eorzea). My absolute favourite part of this quest had to be when the WoL is recounting their experiences with Venat, Emet and Hermes to the Watcher. The WoL's expression just seemed to convey so many emotions. Joy, nostalgia, sadness...it was so nice to see that our WoL, as a character separate from the dialogue options we choose, was genuinely affected by these characters in such a profound way. Maybe I'm reading too much into it like that, but my WoL's reaction here definitely reflected how I personally felt about the Elpis gang

For me Omega's penultimate conclusion, rings the most true, paraphrasing, "The heart is not some force you tap into, but is a sense that shows you what reality is". Because ultimately truth is not singular, it is the result of how we feel when presented with the cold facts of the world. Logic is important, it can help shape truth, but it will also at times limit our understanding, because even omega can wrong. Even the ancients gods of their realm, who knew what dynamis was failed to stop the final days, and their logical solution was genocide. The forum, the brightest souls from across the star, democratically elected, and meritocratically ruled, believed the logical solution was to run. Pressed with all the facts, all the evidence they could find, the meteons came to the logical conclusion that nothing matters, and we'd be better off dead. With a little bit of hope, and the will to push past despair, we as the warrior of light prove them all wrong, not by being illogical, but by seeing those cold facts in a different light. We can overcome our nature, we can learn, and work the problem, until we find a solution that works. We can sacrifice comfort to save lives, we can play long odds by leveraging our advantages, and in the end, seeing the barren wastelands of the universe, and confronted with the fact that it will all end we can say, "But it hasn't ended yet, and if eventually it must, then every second of it will have been worthwhile." The iron works, Biggs, Wedge, Cid, Nero, and the others embody this philosophy. Any time one falls to despair, one of the others will tell them to snap out of it, and remind them there's work to do.

I am still pretty confident there will be a time-jump soon -- probably for next expansion. Tataru's quest is giving us insight into how the people of Eorzea have been changed following the End of Days and what they intend to do forward. Same thing with this Omega quest we see the effects of the End of Days but this time on the newer areas (Garlemald, the Moon, and Thavnair). Both quests emphasize that this is the first step on a very long journey and I think we will lay that groundwork through the rest of this expansion just to have a time-jump where we can see the results of that journey (Aetherys being united by Tataru's effort, Garlemald reborn into something new, the moon populated etc) and this will refresh the world and its political balance for us without having to change a ton of it physically.

I was diagnosed with depression when I was 8. I wrote my first suicide note at 7. I saw therapists throughout my entire teenage years... took every antidepressant in the book. With that out of the way... Endwalker has been therapeutic for me. I don't know how else to phrase it other than that. It was a genuine experience, and if the writer didn't go through depression, I'd be flabbergasted at their understanding of it. My static calls Endsinger "the big sad" because so many of us have gone through that hell. Fighting Zenos at the end felt like life going back to normal. It was... perfect and this quest added so much to it.

It really is a beautiful capstone to the themes of Endwalker. I agree with you and I've said it before elsewhere: Shadowbringers is the better-written story, but the themes and emotions of Endwalker affected me like nothing else. It shone a light on a dark place inside me and I'm grateful for it. I find the quest amusing too because so many parts feel like the writing team engaging with fan discussions. Who was right and who was wrong? Why did X character do Y if it didn't make sense? The Watcher's question not only made me consider my own answer, but made me think of people I know who had spent thousands of words on defending Hermes or condemning Venat or teasing apart every last detail in an effort to find the seed of truth behind their feelings on this tale.

Honestly, the idea of “false escapism” as you described it is a fascinating one. If you’ve ever played Spiritfarer, it does the same sort of thing where it gives you an experience that is fun and very much a video game that you play for entertainment, but it also spends a lot of its narrative just analyzing what it means to live and hitting such a powerful emotional note that rings true even outside of the fact that it’s a piece of fiction. Some writers like to be cold and grim for the sake of realism, but other writers know that reality has joy and love and hope as well, that it keeps us going in times of strife or mourning, and exploring that feels so very good, even when it makes you sob.

Fascinating. I don't play MMRPGs, damn, I rarely even play online other than a bit of Remnant or D3 in coop or a bit of BF1 every now and then and yet... I am finding myself watching FFXIV videos time and again. And after what I have seen from this game, but also from it's community, I'd say that _if_ I would ever decide to actually play an online game like this, then FFXIV would not only be very high on the list of candidates, but actually in a pole position. Seriously, I am under the impression that this is one of the rare cases where the 'community' is actually that, a community, and that this is highly encouraged and cultivated by the people behind this game. Damn, what is keeping me from giving this a try, no matter what, are the monthly fee and, unfortunately, the setting itself. Or maybe that is the wrong word, it's just that 'that japanese art style' and talking animals, silly over the top hairdoes and, from my perspective, silly things like people with birds living in their hair (I am aware that is another FF game, I just mention it to get my point across) are _so_ not my cup of tea.

I kinda part hope that omega revives a small part of the omicrons as a force of good. To set out and nurture what worlds are being reborn and such. As well as it could end up as a key link to getting you to new worlds.

What they actually did in these quests is explain to normal people what fuzzy logic is. Its basically the backbone of AI and machine learning, and to explain it easy, in normal programing you have 1 and 0, its either this or that. in machine learning its not black and white, but more like shades of gray, and depending of if its more black or more white the machine learns, and next time that it tests that, it adjusts the parameters and so on. it was pretty nicely done.

I chose Venat for the dialogue options. All of them had their reasons, and literally suffred millenia of unutterable suffering, but when you think about it... Emet-Selch acted out of nostalgia, longing days and people gone for good. Hermes acted out of guilt, remorse about all the creations he had forsaken in Elpis. Venat? She whished to see mankind find its own way, and be able to ultimately face despair itseld and come out of top. She acted out of love for mankind.

I was struck by the profoundness of the current Valenteone's quest. Going in there expecting something cute for a cute reward. Somehow 14 finds these spots of truth, and manages to deliver them with uniquely positive seriousness.

Yeah I agree with what you said about Shadowbringers being a tighter xpac but I think Endwalker has higher highs than Shadowbringers

If omega sent out its consciousness into each one and had them interact with life and then had them compare stories with drastically different events for each while the mini omega tried to understand would be such a fun side story since they look human they can integrate with everyone in the world and learn first hand how everyone lives grows and struggles

Well the best part is that Endwalker hasn't ended yet, there is more to come. These type of quests usually tend to have more to it and get folllow up.

I would love it if this story was somehow building up to an Omega ultimate story. Where you fight a version of "Omega with Dynamis"

more likely to have the ending with omega taking on the body of a large mammet, like the ones allag made, that is player character sized and looks like either the M or F version from O12. Then either joining the ironworks as a permanent side character like nero, or the questline becoming mandatory for the MSQ in the future with it joining a future iteration of the scions

I agree. It does come through on camera. I prefer these fresh reactions to the scripted explanations. I do also love the scripted explanations. They are wonderful and thorough but if I had to choose, I would choose these reactions.

Personally I chose the last option of None were worthy. In hindsight EVERYONE was guilty to a certain extent and EVERYONE was worthy enough to be saved if at all possible. When you look back into it all you realize just how, "by the skin of your teeth," everything went as it unfolded, right to the beginning of the game. The only difference was those other societies surrendered themselves to despair. It reminds me of a speech Lando Calrissian said in the Babylon 5 movie. "The humans I think knew that they were doomed, but when another race would surrender to despair the humans fought back with even greater strength. They made the Minbari fight for EVERY inch of space, in my life I had never seen anything like it. They would weep, they would pray, they would say goodbye to their loved ones and then throw themselves without fear or hesitation into the very face of death itself, NEVER surrendering. No one who saw them fighting against the inevitable couldn't help but be moved to tears by their courage, their stubborn nobility. When they ran out of ships they used guns, when the ran out of guns they used knives and bare hands they were magnificent. My only hope when it is my time that I may die with HALF as much dignity as I saw in their eyes before the end. They did this for TWO YEARS, they never ran out of courage but in the end they ran out of time." That is what separated us from those other planets, stubborn nobility, raging against insurmountable odds knowing full well its a losing battle. You can look back into history on heroic last stands going back thousands of years with the same aspects. Even in the face of death, we DO NOT go quietly. We fight until our knuckles bleed. Surrender is NEVER an option in our eyes.
