This actually made me think back to the quest for Satasha (Hard). In that quest, it was revealed that when someone is overexposed to a primal's aether beyond what is needed to temper them they will mutate into a monster associated with the primal's element. That's why all the pirates in Satasha (Hard) have been turned into squid people after Leviathan punished them for their failure. What's going on with the sin eaters (and maybe even the void sent) seems to have a lot of similarities.

Maybe the Flood of light (that appears to be made of a white crystal) is made of White Auracite which as you know traps aether which could explain how the sin eaters always come back. I think it was mentioned in the final Ivalice Raid Ramza & co. also used the auracite to record their souls until some1 like us came along to kill ultima.

I always took it as the Blessing of light allowed for echo, but echo isn’t necessarily only acquired through the blessing of light. Hence the man made echo, the echo through Zodiark and the echo from Primals(Beast Tribes).

@@keinchi It has never been alluded to that being tempered by Primals gives echo capabilities. There IS that one Sahagin that gains the echo in the story, but it is not stated that the 2 things are connected. Also there are several characters who have the echo, Krile and Arenvald notably, who do not have the blessing of light. The blessing of light is specifically stated as being granted to Hydaelyn's champions. At this stage that would be our character, as the Warrior of Light, and probably Minfilia. Canonically there is only one warrior of light on the source. They treat 4, 8 and 24 man parties as the warrior of light with echo wielding allies. None of the scions posess the echo and none of them posess the blessing of light either.

Food for thought. I don't remember the exact quote, but back in post-Heavensward when we first met the warriors of darkness, I remember Y'shtolla noticing that the Aether was flowing in a strange way around the warriors of darkness. If killing sineaters make them just respawn from their aether, you can't destroy them normally. I wonder if it is that "dark aether" (let's call it that way) is the key to destroy them for good, and therefore we become warriors of darkness to bear that same dark aether too and destroy the sineaters. Either way, I was blown away by that trailer. Square-Enix made a killing today at E3, I'd say they won it.

Nice catch on the "dark night" bit, even with the line later on mentioning their troubles starting a hundred years prior I for some reason thought it was talking about a "Dark Knight" lol Some interesting things: In 1.0 Ifrit mentions that the Echo was bestowed upon the people by a deity even he did not know of. If this is not Hydaelyn, it could be the figure behind them in the cage drawings. If they are gods 'after a fashion' (meaning imperfect or 'to an extent') it stands to reason there may be something much closer to a god, but that's just a theory for now. The true power of the Echo is to "break down the barriers of existence". It can prevent tempering, something primals can do, as well as allow one to take possession of primal (Like Zenos) or take the form of one (Like Ysayle) which are all things no normal person should be able to do. I'm excited to see what we can learn about it from Shadowbringers, but so far these all week like tools for taking on Primals and it the Echo really was bestowed by some higher god, there is a chance that god is looking to destroy Hydaelyn and Zodiark using the Warrior of Light\Dark.

correct me if I'm wrong but I think Yoshi mentioned only the Source was copied during the Sundering and not the exact inhabitants of it, like there is no First or Second's Hildibrand (imagine the chaos with just that), so I think it's our Minfilia reborn as same as how a Sin Eaters gets reborn with the same aether since she became the Voice of the Mother making her the same element as them I guess.

It existed alongside ours and evolved differently with an entirely different timeline and people. They were quick to debunk this theory that every world just have different versions of the same people. So it is 100% Minfilia, our Minfilia, just not in the same body as her real body can not leave the side of Hydaelyn. She's an avatar if you will.

I don't know why Hydaelyn and Zodiark being primals is a surprise. As the story has said repeatedly, you can take any sufficiently powerful being from the either and bring it into the world with enough crystals and faith. These beings become warped and less true in manifesting but they are all called primals once summoned. I've never heard what to call them when they exist in the either and are not summoned though.

It's interesting, I feel like this expansion is very parralel to Wings of The Goddess. It's cool to see others are making that connection too. The time travel/world travel and then the expansion having the release of Dancer. I'm just hoping that it doesn't parralel too much because WoTG marked the decline of FF11. I loved the expansion, but most people hated it. I doubt it obviously because they really knocked the ball out of the park with this expansion.

You are definitely right there are more similarites to CoP. I had forgotton those similarities CoP had to Shadowbringers because I was like 10 when I played CoP and the storyline was a bit convoluted at times also 😆. I just remember all the bosses and the protaganists, but not why they were doing what they did. I think getting stuck so much at like Promivia Dem, Holla, and like Tenzen broke a lot of the continuity of the storyline for me.

Restored peace, but with a cost of your friend dying by taking a thrown spear to the chest by the corrupt archbishop’s knights. SB: You’re fighting a war in two fronts. Both fronts got independence from the empire and the emperor’s son gets revived after a while. Character gets migraines because of a voice in character’s head.

The first and the thirteenth are all we have been given information on outside of the source. The thirteenth had a flood of darkness. We don't have specifics on which shards have been absorbed, only the number of calamities which lets us know 7 have been absorbed.

I played through the Main Story until the end and did not skip Cutscenes. There’s so much to take in that I still find myself lost. So videos like this help immensely. The triangle shown in the trailer, outside the planet, is "Eternal Breath" from Eden (FF8 Summon). Awww sheeeeit man, that was a complete surprise! (21:26) Edits: If you pause carefully, the number of circles surrounding it in the border are 12, so maybe there is a connection with the 12 gods as well. It would be nice if they found a way to link it all. (Just a guess since I cant really see the glyphs on them, whether its the runes of 'the twelve' or just the regular Eternal Breath design from FF8, which also had the same sort of glyphs on the edge). The new PLD AOE "Holy Spirit" skill draws 12 little spheres as well, during its cast; I love the little details like those that tell you so much about the game.

A mistake I wish to rectify with the Hydaelyn tempering theory, it is stated by not just one but many different sources in game that those with the Echo cannot be tempered by Primals. You cannot gain the Echo, aside from the Empire fashion, and thus must born with it, though the effects may not become apparent until later in life. This means that we were not tempered by Hydaelyn, to support this claim we still had choice in our actions through the game and did not attempt to convert others like the other tempered would. To add to this evidence against this theory the blessing of Hydaelyn is granted by the crystals we carry, which Midgardsormr was able to temporarily deactivate, if we were tempered then there would be no reason to require an outside source for the blessing since she could simply implant it in us.

@@Cynicz13 Though a good hypothesis but we know the Ascians also have the Echo and it's power is explained with this one line "Very well. Let us show these mortals the true power of the Echo. The power to break down the barriers of existence! " at that point we note that 1. the Echo is not tied Hydaelyn and 2. the Echo allows the user to break the barriers of existence aka the barriers between the worlds. My working Hypothesis is that Hydaelyn tried to temper us and the Echo awoke as a result, Hydaelyn then switched her plan to still use us but instead of directly controlling us she would instead guide us to cause what I like to call the "Lightocalypse"

Just an idea but the pictures in the cave looked like one being that had been split into two, which could have been the sundering separating Hydaelyn and Zodiark into two separate primals. In this essence it would make sense if those tempered by both Hydaelyn and Zodiark had the echo since it is essentially the same power from the same source just with a different elemental affinity.

@@dalimore Very good observation and there is most likely a fair bit of truth to that, the problem I find with that theory is the fact there are others with the echo who have not come in contact with either of the two gods. We meet them in the story and if they had been tempered and we had as well why would they not mention their connection to Hydaelyn?

@Alavant I think that widely depends on how they choose to go about this expansion. One of the core beliefs of Eorzea is the concept that all life comes from and returns to the Mother Crystal Hydaelyn. If that were in fact true then every person has technically had interaction with Hydaelyn when they were born since they would have been created from her aether and then when they die the aether returns to her. While I don't personally think this is the case I am very excited to see how the story unfolds and debunks the currently held faith and philosophies of the people. I'm so excited for this expansion ^.^

Hey W2G and chat. I just wanted to point out that the echo and the blessing of light are not the same thing. There are several things that suggest that neither of these are a form of tempering. The real question we need to ask is, "if Zodiark and Hydaelyn are primals who/what summoned them and who/what/where are the OG form(s) from which they were based?" I would say the echo predates or is contemporary with the primal forms of Hydaelyn and Zodiark. Thus, I would say echo is a counter balance to the original summoning of these beings. Let's not forget that the Garleans recreated the echo suggesting it is something completely different than a tempering effect. This is all just speculation, but my gut reaction is that we are not tempered at all and we possess the echo to oppose the bending of will one way or the other. Otherwise, how do we, as well as the warriors of darkness, have the ability to choose between light and darkness? It's gonna be an interesting ride for sure.

I think the girl was a Warrior of Light on the first and was executed 100 years ago to try and slow the flood (hence why she's shown captured and being slow marched through the street with armed guards). As she was dying/just before being executed I think Minfilia/The Voice appeared to her and requested to use her physical form as a vessel so she could begin her work in the first.

That last line confirmed something my wife and I speculated on since we were first started playing. Basically the reason we couldn't be tempered, is the Echo is us being tempered by Hydalyn. Another thing that we thought about was Midgardsomnr removed the "blessing of light and the echo" from us in the Post ARR storyline leading into Heavensward. Could that have been him removing the tempering and us "regaining" it was our way of reclaiming the Echo on our terms?

Basically Sin Eaters are the light equivalent of Voidsent doesn't matter how many times you kill them as long the Flood that made them exist they will just reform.

Unukhlai (?) who gives you the containment Bay quests in HW states he is from a world consumed by darkness and confirms that the voidsent were once humans who had been caught in the flood of darkness. Unukhlai himself was then saved and taught by Elidebus and saught to see that no other planet succumb to consummation by dark or light.

How did you not comment on it at that at 21:25 we see Eden casting her FF8 summon ability? :p Then at 17:40 you talk about the tree in the middle and what not but we know the raid for ShB is Eden and the name sets alarms for the garden of eden, the fruit of knowledge, and I cant help but wonder if there is a connection to the tree in the middle. I hope the raid is more entwined with the story this tier.

So, you said you quickly go over some of the more major parts of the game from 1.0 until now, but don’t really go into depth. Would you guys eventually consider going back and doing videos based summarizing the stories through the previous expansions/patches. Whether you did the summary as a whole or broke it down into its patch run (i.e 2.0, 2.1, etc)?

I actually made a new character on a new world just to actually replay the entire story for real during off time during the new expansion, but it would be nice to have a summary so those of us who skipped the good chunks of the story aren’t completely lost in the expansion.

With all the big lore drops and hints in this trailer I can't stop my mind going back to a brief flash around the time we see Gaius and Estinien together. A hand passes over what looks very much like Count Edmont Fortemps' journal "Heavensward". What could be in that book that it is significant enough to be in an expansion launch trailer? The story of our encounter with the Warriors of Darkness?

heres a theory for ya, hydalin and zodiark are one and the same being that was split in half (one of light and one of dark) so being tempered by hyda is how we start the game and then being tempered by dark thru zodi wouldn't be so far fetched. They're not breaking the tempering just enhancing whats already there. Since in the vid it says "A hero harness light and dark". and seeing 2 Minfilla isn't all that hard to believe since thee younger one could be reborn on or actually from that world and the older one is the one that was saved by Hyda.

I think Minfilia/Hyda just split off a part of themselves to help the First which is why there are two Minfilias. From what I understood from Minfilia becoming the voice of Hyda they both combined so they are one and the same. I doubt there will be people that will be exact/similar versions of the Source so either it could be reborn or what I said or something else which we can't even imagine.

Ive thought of myself, that in a vast vacuum of space there was a single being... in their infinite loneliness split their body in two, creating the universe, Hydaelin and Zodiark. They are the fonts of all aether, and are gods of life and magic around the newly born universe. The primals are merely copies or inferior versions of what Hydaelin and Zodiark represent. thats why I think there is more to it than... 'they are primals **mic drop**'

Ethys Asher and Mr.happy have a few vids about lore but they haven't been actively uploading about it anymore, sadly. At least NG+ is an upcoming feature and you will be able to replay the story so your memory gets a little refreshed.

Im wondering if because hydalin and zodiark are the oldest of primals that their tempering is different. It's not a thrall based tempering?

was thinking the same since as a new born primal they need to feed more on aether for them to trully manifest at full strength so their tempering can somehow be like brutally enforce the thralls to do just that. while hydaelyn and zodiark are the eldest among them relies on blessings with less tempering (we still get bound to them) i guess.

and they're picky with who they temper.. unlike other primals who basically wan everyone to be tempered (aside from odin)

Just a thought tho since Hydaelyn and Zodiark once coexisted with each other perhaps they are as one single primal before? sorta like twins with light and dark affinity, and that gives us the possibility to receive the blessing of the other half.

If you ask me, I think Hyd is good. However, she’s used so much light without even thinking that it’s gotten out of her control at this point, because she tried to keep evil from invading Eorzea. We as the WoL became a strong vessel for her to use and the more successful she became, the stronger she got, and now it’ll be harder to make balance in Eorzea. It makes sense in my own head..

M. Woller That’s not my point though. My point is that her ‘light’ got out of control to where we can’t even stop it at the moment, nor can she. Nobody else knows how to stop it. The only ‘logical’ way to prevent those who don’t wanna die is by sacrifice. Not that Hydaelyn likes to chomp chomp chomp on people/animals.

Don't know if anyone brought this up but if im correct that elf at 20:06 is Zenos. I think he somehow possessed another person. Near the end of the stormsblood there is a scene that says as much. I can't remeber it word for word though, but his eyes flash in the same manner as Zenos.

The thing is, we see just fine that there are people fighting Sin Eaters still. I think we will have 2 types of people with Jabbalord only a ruler of one side which has given into the Sin Eaters, while the rest of humanity is still in defiance. Basically camp of people who gave up and camp who didn't.

What I find interesting is that the Ascian calls Hydalyne and Zodiark the eldest primals. Which we know of past civilizations and Tribes having their own primals (gods) What I wonder about is which civilization has Hydalyne and Zodiark , who were they ? Because from the source we know of Hydalyne

We shall be neither the Warrior of Light nor the Warrior of Darkness - We shall simply be "The Warrior" Also - a couple notes: 1. "The sin eaters" are the light version of Voidsent that come from the 13th (Explained in a side piece of Heavensward on Azyz La where we encounter the last survivor that is not voidsent of the 13th). 2. That 'Elf' in the background - unless your trying to avoid spoilers for some reason - that's Estienien man - looking more and more like Sephiroth.
