I know there has been some time since you uploaded this or any other guide but i just wanted to say thanks.As a new tank into the game, i always look up a guide before doing a new dungeon, skill is very important but also is knowledge.

Hey no prob, I wish I was able to do more but I just don't have the time right now :( I try to pack all of the information that actually matters into these and cut down on a much off-topic rambling to make them as quick and informative as possible. Knowing where to go though is also really important as a tank but I think that gets overlooked in a lot of guides. I try to make sure that first time tanks also get enough of that information too so hopefully that's helped ^^ (though if you've seen more of my guides and any have still left you a little nervious about knowing what to do or where to go, let me know which ones and I'll make sure to improve on that part for future things :D). Anyway, thanks!

It definitely is much easier to pay attention to 'Dragon' or 'Ram' instead of the colors. Good tip! I always missed the popups on screen for monitoring the party list (healer). Really appreciate your updated guides. Although the old ones by MTQ is still accurate, it's good to know most of them aren't as hard as it used to nowadays. I realy enjoy your video format as well. Keep them coming TSDS! :D

Thanks Hatanooo! And you're right, MTQ's guides for these things are still really good (which is why I initially wasn't bothering to make guides for everything) but then some of them are a little dated by now and perhaps emphasise things that no longer matter so much - which can make things seem more scary than they really are these days. I also found making guides helped me to remember the tactics for the encounters so figured it was about time they got an updating. Anyway, thanks for the support! :D

Love the guide TSDS! Always helpful for a quick refresh so I don't muck up the final boss mechanics. "and in THIS video, you'll learn everything you need to know to run AQ40!". Sadly, I never got to experience Vanilla WoW (2004) content.

Yeah I went a bit deep on the Dragon's/Ram's breath mechanic I suppose, but it is quite lethal and often confusing for people. Glad to hear you enjoyed the guide though! And finally someone picks up on the intro joke! :D

I've not done one in ages but have been quite busy with an international school project, a parents visit, moving home and another big school project (that's still ongoing) ontop of managing a baby :d I think Cutter's Cry was the last normal dungeon I covered before the PotD stuff but I still have two other dungeons all recorded and awaiting audio/editing. I'll get around to them at some point :P Anyway, glad you're finding them useful :D

Not to be four years late on main, but I wanna give a bit of life advice: Keep an eye on the chat for the chimera callouts, or check the cast bar. Sometimes you'll get "the chimera's eyes focus on a single target" AND "the [x]'s eyes now burn [color]" at the same time, and if you're only paying attention to the callouts and NOT the chat or cast bar, there's a good chance you'll get got because the popup will come out like...just after Dragon's/Ram's Voice. Just some life advice after having that happen during my first cutter's cry run in a couple months.

The easiest way to remember the last boss mechanics is instead of "Ran away" it's "Ram away"

Same here!! First time, white mage. The entire dungeon, I always had the aggro of everything (even though I was careful with the Regens), and they were also doing some sort of speedrun strategy of the whole group sprinting to the shifting sands without killing anything. Since I didn't even know where the shifting sands were, it was insanely hard to follow. And since I was the last to the sands, going through them was always interrupted by mobs hitting me. I'd die then, respawn, and would then have to try to run through everything again all alone from one shifting sands to the next, while thr group had already engaged the boss without waiting for me. Then they wiped and proceeded to call me some of the most vile names I've ever heard (and I'm an adult woman, not a kid). I left the group and was just so upset afterwards I thought about uninstalling the whole thing and stick to single player. I'd really appreciate any advice you guys have - I'm doing my best, I watch guides before the dungeons, I announce that I'm new at the start, and honestly I just do this for fun and have no interest in getting flamed until I have perfected the latest speedrun strats. Should I just leave multiplayer games to the 13 year old boys? I love the game itself so far and want to see the end of the story. Should I switch to DPS? Is there a DPS class that mostly gets ignored where it's okay to not do everything perfectly right away? I do have a good life and just want to do this for enjoyment after work, although am willing to research mechanics and learn and get better.

Heya, sounds like you had a rather poopy group :( From my experience bottomcrevices are quite rare when grouping up with random people but as you know, they are always out there. In that situation there's pretty much nothing you can do, the type of people who will flame you for dying in a situation they put you in are the same type of people who are just unable to understand/accept any sort of explanation as to why you died. If a random stranger does something really rude or annoying to me in life I generally try and forget about it because it only ends up making you feel bad. The rude person sure isn't thinking about what happened over and over afterwards so there's no use to dwell on it, plus the chances of ever seeing/encountering that person are practically non-existant. In terms of how that might translate into the game world, it's probably best to do what you did and just leave. You get bad runs now and then so just chalk it up as a bad one and try and forget about it. Most people I've encountered react in a very friendly manner towards new players so explaining that you're new here is a pretty good way to go - especially if you're healing as it means you've at least 'done your part' in letting the tank know to take it easy (if they don't then it's on them and you might need some more chalk depending). In general DPS classes are easier to run dungeons with if you're not looking for any stress because they don't have basically any responsibility in the group and with the game lacking any official damage meters, it's also difficult for people to tell if you're 'not very good'. That said DPS players have much longer queue times due to the role being so much more popular (again because it's easy). Of course you can always level multiple different roles like I do so you can more easily swap to whatever role you feel like playing at the time. If you enjoy healing though then you shouldn't swap away from it just because of other people. Unfortunately In these sorts of games healers don't get much recognition because the average player is only able to tell when a healer is bad (when players die - which is not always the fault of the healer which makes it even worse for them). For example, your average player will never notice your clutch swiftcast heal that saved them from the aoe they forgot to move out of. There are many different skill levels of players out there and as you heal you'll encounter more and more of them. This means you'll end up having to thanklessly babysit a lot of awful players but you'll also develop an eye for people being bad. If someone 'complains' to you as to the whereabouts of their heals, it's far easier to brush it off when you know it was their own fault and they're just too moronic to know better. This also applies for stuff other than healing such as the situation your new friends put you in. If people want to be Richards, it's almost impossible to stop them. Thankfully it's much easier to just put it in the past and throw on a fresh face for the next group. Anyway, I hope that might have given you a bit of mental support and as a famous feline poster once stated, hang in there!

Evamaren I’m a year late. But honestly, just enjoy the game. Learning is apart of it, but it’s hard with randoms. If you already haven’t dropped the game or got friends, I’d suggest playing with people you know/ can communicate with.

Tried it twice as healer, got kilt and nice the first time and 4 times the second time. My fault though for not being geared enough and getting lost on the way back to the boss once. At least as a White Mage managing MP seems to be terrible here. Ran out of MP thrice in the second run and Lucid Dreaming helps but not enough. And I must say the other party members were really understanding and offered tips for the boss after we finally managed.

Wow I had a heck of a hard time here, died 3 times against the chimera and my team gave up on reviving me lol eventually everyone but the tank died but thankfully it had only 2% hp left so he managed to beat it! I had failed to recognize that I was playing the game in japanese and so of course the cue was not gonna be the same text as yours, so I got confused and didnt have the time to read what it said haha. Funny thing is that every time it did the lightning one so if I had just always stayed close I would've been ok! Well, at least we made it haha

@@TomScottDoesStuff Hahahaha well what I mean isnt that I hadnt realized that I was playing in japanese, so much as that I hadnt thought of the fact that looking for the english "keyword" wasn't gonna help me if the text that pops up is in japanese, thus wont be literally the same, nor in the same sentence position, you know? haha

Great guide, subbed!! By the way, is it still expected that the healer should kite all adds for the Princess fight even though we no longer have stoneskin?
@TomScottDoesStuff
@TomScottDoesStuff 6 жыл бұрын
Well I've never encountered that tactic so if someone rather abruptly told you that doing so was your job I think you can engage in a bit of the ol' eye rolling. If the dps isn't that strong then they should be working with the tank to kill the adds. If the dps are above average for the dungeon, they can focus down the boss and ignore the adds. With this boss focus method the adds shouldn't be much of a problem to the healer who will likely be able to just stand still and facetank them whilst healing. If you're having problems keeping people up whilst having adds on you, it likely points to the group not following the tactics more applicable to their gear level; when you're able to ignore the adds and just burn the boss, she doesn't live long enough for the adds to become too difficult. A healer kite tactic is something that will usually only occur if the healer knows that this tactic will enable them to kill whatever boss you're fighting much easier/quicker than normal and it's very unlikely to ever be considered the normal 'this is what everyone always does' tactic. Even in such a situation (which I can't think of one boss fight where the healer kites stuff because it's easier), it would fail 9 times out of 10 because you would likely have to warn your group of what you'll be doing so they don't mess it up - something they'll probably do anyway. A good rule of thumb is that if something feels like 'this can't be right..?', it's probably not.
