FFXIV - The Dancer experience

There was a good 3 months after endwalker where i only played dancer, and i cant count the times i would mess up my standard step buttons and panic
but thanks to FFXIV that doesnt matter, i can still finish it no problem!
... now if only i could proc any feathers...

Hilariously. With recent changes, in AoE you're better off NOT dancing on CD unless you need to refresh the buff. Your general AoE combos will do more dps.

The hardest part of playing Dancer is when you partner someone at the start, and then they get pasted by the first AoE that comes along and you have to fit changing partner into your rotation.

I have dance partner bound to a macro on my middle mouse using the mouseover target tag, so I can just middle click a party member from the list. (if curious, it's /ac "Closed Position" )

There's a great Dalamud plugin that fixes this problem. Or if you play vanilla, just make your buff icons a bit bigger so you don't need to look at the hotbar to track your procs.@@NBSgamesAT

Remember when Endwalker's first Alliance Raid came out about the same time they completely overhauld SMN, and there were like 12 SMNs all summoning shit at the same time? Yeah? Cuz I do. And I didn't learn any mechanics because of the blinding light.

@@kyrolazioko4783 here's a fun fact, if you type in "/petsize all small" you will make every single summoner's summon small. and the weird thing is that is affected by *you* putting in that command, not by each individual summoner. the size of any summon present is dependent on you, and not them. it's specific to the character you've done it on as well, so you'll have to implement that command for each character you have (i do realize you mentioned the light brought forth by the summon, but we can't do anything about that, that comes down to making party effects limited or none at all)

You won't _really_ rely on them for the big burst windows, as you get closer to 90. Though they're nice to have, ofc. Plus you could be dealing with 20% proc chance with no other combos, like some jobs I could name :T

It could be worse. The only efficient way to do big deeps as a BLM is casting your original spell over and over and hoping for that coin flip to prepare your explosive runes this morning. Repeat ad nausium until cooldown period.

RNG is my experience with BLM's Fire and Thunder procs. *preps casting Normal Fire again* "Free Fire 3 activates" *sighs and takes a tiny step to interrupt my cast to use the Fire 3*

Used to exist... kinda. This is how HW's MCH worked. You were not guaranteed the next step of your standard rotation (50% chance each time you used it, and you would gain a buff that would allow the next step). The Gauss Rifle would add a cast bar to the rotation, making you a "Gun Mage." You could mitigate the RNG a bit by adding bullets via a buff that would guarantee the next step would proc the next chain of the combo. Suffice to say, pretty much everyone hated it.

@@argentbast Gun Mage sounds like a very cool concept and would fit in really well with the feeling of ffxiv (how mch is now, I interpret more as a flat Technologist), but I can definitely see why that was changed. At best, it might've been OK if it accomplished its idea like dancer did, but that still seems like it'd be pretty iffy

The discussion was that if a cast bar were to be added then it would be more in theme to just roll BLM or SMN (RDMs didn't exist at that time).

@@thetinyfish705 as this video kinda hints at (in a tongue-in-cheek way :) ), dancer looks more complicated than it is. You basically have a 1,2 combo that can then branch off into additional inputs based on RNG, but as long as you keep pressing flashy button, you should be good xD

DNC may be highly RNG based but by the gods I can’t defeat my mentor in DNCing even with better gear. Aligning buffs and knowing when to burst is the challenge in DNC. Luckily DNC looks so fabulous nobody notices I actually play bad. xD Not even my mentor can tell what I do wrong, as only the abacus tells her I’m doing something wrong!

Honestly, while this hit a lil too close home, DNC is such a lovely job though - I tried it around the end of stormblood cause I had only leveled BLM at the time and now it's my go-to for new and difficult content - and it kinda saved my ass cause as an EU player on NA servers, with my ping that's on 230ms on average, it's a pretty forgiving job and it allows me to overall not suck ass completely even with the lag spikes WHILE also feeling useful to everyone around me

Why are you reporting this? "I'm in this post and I don't like it." On a real note, though, I cannot tell you how many times I panick when I accidentally press the wrong button for Standard step, or especially Technical Step. Not to mention when I forgot to use closed position on someone, and that's not to mention when I forget to keep Standard Step up at all times for Espirit. My dancer is set up for single-target DPS, which makes me great in boss fights, but I also sometimes forget that En Avant exists and end up getting owned at the edge of a damaging ability.

The most stressful moment I had playing dancer was when I was paired with a bard and I had to keep careful watch of the party's buffs trying to figure out when they popped their defensive cooldown so I didn't waste my Samba dance. Pretty sure they just forgot about it alongside Peloton though so if you do that with dancer you just play slots while everyone else plays their taxes
