This song in particular hit the fanbase much differently after we found out this was the major song that Soken and Company worked on while he was hospitalized for his cancer. They actually gave him a mini studio setup that he could use in his hospital room. And listening to the lyrics, while yes, they are fitting to the boss you fight, they're also echoing the feelings of a man who was potentially facing his own mortality.

Quite a portion of the enjoyment of the songs that ppl feel is their connection to the story of ff14. They're often tied to emotional highs and lows, climaxes in combat and character arcs. Because of the story, you also encounter the songs in a certain order. Callbacks to previous ones, leitmotifs used throughout expansions, it keeps going. These songs make people relive their favourite or even dreaded moments in the game, which is powerful.

I think one of the main reasons To the Edge goes so well with everything like you said is beacuse it's not just one characters theme but sort of a conversation between 4 broken men desperately trying to find their purpose in life, I know these names will mean nothing to you unless you play the game but it's the theme of Azem, Elidibus, Emet Selch and the player character all of them have thier own aspects in the lyrics!

@@keiichimorisato98 @keiichimorisato98 Afraid not to quote the FF14 wiki According to Final Fantasy XIV Community Team member Sicycre, the lyrics of "To the Edge" refer to the characters present at the Seat of Sacrifice (Elidibus, Emet-Selch, Azem, and the Warrior of Darkness), describing them as "those who became incapable of bringing things to an end, and those who arrived to bring closure."[1] Azem is our unsundered form sure but as Gaia shows the Acsian and who they becomer are completely different people, there are also hints in the lyrics of both this and Endwalker that Azem is not a good guy, a constant Motif of Azem is Amber and pretty much every time it pops up it has some bad meanings: An exampme being the line talking about how they're fading away and fighting deaths amber embrace so maybe Azem caused the noise that created the asians to save them? or maybe he had his own darker intentions.

So this song is actually made based off two songs composed prior to when this one came out, with a few twists. You can obviously hear the "Shadowbringers" theme you reacted to recently in this track here and there, but the other track is "Neath Dark Waters"/Amaurot Overworld Theme which is where the more somber and slower aspects of this track come from. Neath Dark Waters is a very good track if you want to hear something much slower and played using predominantly a piano, instead of the mostly faster guitar tracks you've heard so far.

the reason us FFXIV love certain songs is not just cause they have nice melodies or a lot of intruments, majority of a song's popularity comes from the meaning behind the song itself. The songs of FFXIV are varied and unique that I listen to so many of them again and again on Spotify ever since I started playing it last year. Yet if I had to choose two specially selected songs for you that will give you another spin on FFXIV's music, they would be the Akadaemia Anyder Theme (Shadows Withal) and the Qitari Beast Tribe Theme (Mekkah Dee's videos for these themes are perfect). Also, something that I think could be cool for you do, for some Dungeons in FFXIV there is a Normal Mode Track and then a Hard Mode Track which is a remix of the normal mode track. It would be interesting to watch you listen to the normal track first and then the hard mode track and see just how creative and talented Soken and Company are! I can recommend a few dungeons if you'd like. :) Plus for some bosses, in the fight they have 2 phases or even multiple phases (Titan) and each phase has a song transition. I saw that someone in the comments recommended Shiva's themes. I would recommend youtuber dudewhereismyspoon's video "FFXIV OST - Shiva's Theme (HQ reupload)" this will have the transition of the fight and the first two songs. Then for Return To Oblivion, I would recommend youtuber Mekkah Dee's video for Return to Oblivion. However if you'd like to see the whole fight for the song Return to Oblivion, I would recommend dudewhereismyspoon's video "FFXIV OST - Eden: Shiva's Theme" but the video is longer then Mekkah Dee's video. This song is actually paying homage to Near Dark Waters, where we first heard the backdrop music for part of a zone in 5.0 that fits well with the theme behind To The Edge, which didn't drop til 5.3 in the Warrior of Light boss fight. While the ticking clock in the background of both songs does resonate with Soken's time left as he fought cancer, the in game significance of it also plays a part. In the story, the city of Amaurot is a phantom recreation just before the Final Days, the clock ticking down til the apocalypse. Its hard for someone to listen to the songs from FFXIV without playing the game and to understand why a song was made in the genre or the way it was. Yeah they might sound amazing still but youll never truely be able to appreciate the songs because songs like To The Edge are made for the story. The story is such an important factor when it comes to how the songs in FFXIV's are produced. Everytime i listen to To The Edge, it literally makes me tear up because of how impactful it is when it comes to the story and just the weight the lyrics hold in their meaning. Soken is an absolute master when it comes to the emotion and passion he puts into every song he produces for FFXIV and it shows. Us FFXIV fans are incredibly lucky not only have him but the entire dev team because they work incredibly hard to make the story and the game as enjoyable as possible because imo (and from experience playing games for the past 25 years of my life) no other devs come even close to how well were treated in FFXIV.

Keep in mind that Soken san was once the Guinness World Record holder for the amount of music in a game. (Someone would help me in narrowing the actual Record)
@thatguywhothinks81593 жыл бұрын
I believe the record was "Most unique pieces in a video game soundtrack" or something along those lines, and it was gifted at I think one of the SB Fanfests, and while Soken took the actual physical award it was granted to either SE or the dev team as a whole.

He still holds the record as the number is just increasing. He set that record back in 2017 at the launch of Stormblood. So it doesn't include any of the post release Stormblood patches or the Shadowbringers. At the time he set it, it was 384 different tracks. Can easily add on well over 100 more tracks to that number.

ff14 is kind of an anthology of the franchise. A franchise that has had everything from heavy metal (like otherworld from ff10) to a 10 minute+ symphony (dancing mad from ff6) and flamenco chocobo themes. So ff14 kinda just has everything ever in it.

There isn't a singular musical genre to the game because they more or less try to do what is more appropriate for each situation... Generally boss fights and dungeons do get some faster paced and heavier songs, but you do get exceptions when the situation in the story related to it all is not just about going in and killing everything in typical MMO fashion... Most boss themes in the game that have lyrics generally talk about the boss you're actually fighting, as kind of an extra layer of story.

I honestly feel at some point in the future when you have time, give the game a shot you might find it quite good.

Is it bad that this song gives me goosebumps even outside or the game? 😍

if someone who haven't played the game some themes wouldn't make sense like asmongold when he saw endwalker trailer before playing the game, "i'm not into the songs" but as he plays the music makes more sense since the themes are related to the story.

There is K-Pop style music and Koji (the singer for the primal and the localization lead for the game) raps in one song. There is even a Nightmare Before Christmas parade song. That's how varied in music this game is.

If people ever recommend you check out Neath Dark Waters from this game--which I'd be shocked if they haven't by now--I strongly suggest you pair it up with Full Fathom Five. Same tune basically, just different instruments. Both great.

And if you dont mind spoilers (the video there is one already) but want some context I'll give you a quick rundown Spoilers This song is the boss theme for a character who gave his humanity to become a saving hero for his people, becoming the embodiment of their collective wish. At this point, theyre now long gone and the last two others of his kind die during the game's story. In becoming this wish embodied and no longer having his humanity, he no longer remembers anything about himself, the people he fights for, or even why he promised to take up the fight. But because of what he became, he must fight, and still holds hope despite being the last of his kind. He's the soldier who doesnt know the war is over or that there is no fight left to fight

hey my recomendation would be to react to the Ultima Weapon Ultimate From FFXIV its a remix of all the primal songs fused in one big package, also one of the top 3 hardest fights in ffxiv!
@goldieatnip78682 жыл бұрын
Please play FFXIV of you get the chance. I can't recommend it enough. It's legit the best story of any game I've ever played. I've been here 8 years and I've never regretted a second of it. The music means so much more with context.

Gotta say, as much as I love the overall song, and how hard it hits... -That bass line though- I'm way too biased to a good bass line XD

I would suggest a good song to listen to if you want a experience is ludwigs song from bloodborne. Though learn about the character first and the song will really have a impact.

Also once you hear the main themes from a Realm Reborn, Heavensward, Stormblood, and then Shadowbringers.. you should give Endwalker's theme song a shot

I have song of the ancients in my soon to react list! idk when but sometime this month :)

Song of the ancients is such a good song, I love every version of it both from replicant and the one from Automata. Kainé is another one that's really good. Also the sacrifice version of Cecil's theme. So many good songs in just those two games.
