Double reverse P is such a great pickup configuration; it makes NO sense to me that FGN is the only company building a bass like this. Also, I really appreciate the improved ergonomics of DiMarzio's newer P-Bass pickups - it's a huge improvement.

I like this color quite a bit, but not as much as the Arancio Borealis. Nobody can top that. Bright sounds, but some girth in the neck pickups. Its nice that you included the pot values for reference. We learn a lot from videos like this. Very helpful and thanks.

Hoooly! I kinda want one now. I can't stop thinking about how the pickups would've looked like backwards (chrome in the neck side, black in the bridge side). Contrast could've been wild, but I do dig the fact that the black pickup blends in with the pickguard and the chrome one has the bridge to match! Great video as always, Lobster!

DiMarzio are awesome. I just installed the DP127 in my P bass. It's the one with the exposed blade poles. Man what a difference from the original P. The next video you do will be quite a difference in tone. The DP127 is a little hotter pickup than the relentless but, it'll still be quite a difference from the original. The mighty power sounds good already. Now you've got some Mighty Relentless Power. Please use it wisely.

I've got a mexican fender bass with the di-marzio blade pickups, however the relentless would have been my preference had I realised a bit more about what I was doing when I bought the bass! The output on the bass is slightly higher on the relentless pickups, (despite the fact they look better and are a better shape for finger playing). Regardless, they both sound truly awesome - go di-marzio, ya truly rock!

A really useful great sounding bridge pickup. I often think bridge pickups are all but useless as a stand-alone pickup. This however has great tone and I would happily use the bridge solo.....in fact I feel it would get as much use as the neck solo’d. I really like these pickups. Great mod and demo👍

That bass sounds and look great, good work! One thing I would have done differently though, I would have install the chrome pickups near the neck and the black one near the bridge for contrast but no big deal... Keep up the good work LowEndLobster!!!

This has my favorite range of tones of any bass you have played and certainly modded so far. This might the summit for me personally. Even though you will surely play many other great basses with great sounds, it will be hard to match this one! Lol. The bassooks beautiful and I was skeptical about having one pickup black ans the other chrome,....but the black one melds into the black pick guard and the chrome one is a very nice parallel compliment to that high mass bridge. You proved me wrong. It is a beautiful looking and sounding bass.
@jasondoe25963 жыл бұрын
Awesome bass, awesome mod! Series mode is _almost_ too much, but not _really_ too much :D Also, the reverse-P configuration just makes more sense to me. You get the extra treble/clarity where you need it the most - the lower strings. I know the reverse-P is not very good for slapping (due to ergonomics), but since I don't care much about slapping... I'm looking forward to hearing how it sounds with a pick.
@LowEndLobster3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jason! Indeed! The default config when wiring these up is series, and it was interesting to observe the added high end and detail that you get in parallel vs the swift tonal kick in the face that is series.

These are more like SD's HOT pickups in tone. He also added a 500k Vol. raising the Mids even higher. Making them seem louder. You viewers seem to think an EQ tweak is an upgrade. Add a .022uf to the Tone pot for and even higher Mid boost.

10:50 looking at it on the stand, love those cover choices on the pickups, but looking at it there makes me wonder if it wouldn't look badass as fuck with the covers switched so the black one is in the bridge and the chrome one in the neck. Instead of getting subtle and lowering the visual impact, which is cool in its own right, evoking piezo and nostalgic feelings and memories of instruments with a completely clean plucking area, so clear and visually elegant...looking directly at that upgraded bass with the new pickups actually in it so we can see how it all works together. It seems obvious in hindsight that swapping the pickups would make an otherwise very dark and subdued instrument somehow POP visually without being gaudy or in your face, keeps all the elegance and muted tones but can't help but draw the eye now as a thing of beauty instead of avoid it as a thing of mystery.

I think this can stand in for the BC Rich or the Matador.... but you're not saving much cash... if the frets feel like my other FGN products... and it's made of ash... Here's the rub - just like that search for the Reverend blade bass pickups, I don't think anyone ever sells off their FGN basses. There are a LOT of used treble guitars...but basses? No, nobody resells those. Everyone keeps them, THE GREEDY JERKS (which is the name of my Dead Kennedys tribute band that only does smashmouth, trapt, and iced earth covers)

Outstanding! Hadn't known of FGN before now but love their designs. Passive double-P w maple FB = awesome! And love Dimarzio pups! My 75 P-bass w Model P is so great. Look forward to trying Relentless in another bass Q: are the two pups wired together in parallel or series? Ever consider a switch for toggling this? Not that this bass needs any more tonal options :)
@LowEndLobster3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Greg! Each P pickup has a seires parallel switch to allow the individual pickups to each be in series or parallel. However the pickups together are in parallel. FGN actually does the two pickup series thing in some of their basses as standard. The Mighty Jazz JMJ (with the Seymour Duncans, and not the new JMJ2) do this as does the Neo Classic that I have which is a standard jazz style. The series mode definitely gives it some more kick!

Great question! I decided to do this mod for fun. I'm always brainstorming fun (though not always practical) mod projects. I've always liked the relentless and used it in another earlier (not sponsored). When I had this idea, I reached out to DiMarzio and was very fortunate that they offered to provide the pickups on the house. I usually don't use stuff just because someone offered it, I usually come up with the mod ideas myself. So glad you enjoyed the video!
