YES!!! she has a line for sitonai!!! I didn't expect something deep, it was actually quite simple, but I liked it, it seems that she likes sitonai and also she kind of answered us why sitonai has a bear instead of a dog (it seems like it wasn't just a joke/reference with one of the bad ends in stay night)

You know... For a EVIL WITCH, she is not that bad at all, actually this seams like a thrend: Circe, Medea, Morgan; all are described as evil witches but they are more tragic characters that can be sympathized and understand their motives and why they did what they did (even though i wil NEVER forgive medea for what she did to Artoria in UBW, i still can understand her motives)

With Louhi we already have almost all Kaguya-Sama voices in FGO - Kriemhild (Kaguya) - Achilles (Shirogane) - Nemo (Hayasaka) - Asclepius (Ishigod) - Louhi (Fujiwara) - Ozymandias (Shirogane's father) - Andromeda (Shirogane's sister)

I like her character a lot in FGO since its a mix of aspects cherry picked to make a funny character with a lot of cute sprinkles on it.. but her origin is something id rather stay far away from. Finnish mythology was passed on as oral history and poems mostly unwritten anywhere until 1800~. Thats basically why Louhi and Loviatar have this weird connection. Neither character has a pretty image. Louhi is depicted as this jealous and cunning matriarch of her realm without a single kind bone in her. Selfish through and through. Goes back on her word on a whim and tasks she sets on others are deviced to be impossible and to destroy those who attempt them. Loviatar on the other hand is by definition the worst of all children of Tuoni. The birthmother and source of beasts, plagues and illnesses which people suffer from. Her other 3 sisters leave some space to define them in more neutral or even positive fashion but not her.

Its honestly a bit weird for Louhi though. Mostly because her first act in Kalevala is saving Vainamoinen (The wise man who's one of the MCs) and making sure he's alive and well. Her trials were borderline impossible, maybe intentionally so to drive away suitors from her beautiful daughters, but those that did pass the trials, they were allowed to be married and had a grand feast hosted by Louhi herself. Her Sampo was her bread and butter, quite literally so. Because that powered her whole kingdom of Pohjola and had them fed and be fortunate for so long against the cold winters and beasts surrounding the kingdom. And yet she's the villain, because she refused to cave into Vainamoinen and Ilmarinen's demands for the Sampo, who then stole it and then destroyed it when Louhi tried getting it back. Sure her subsequent actions can be labelled as extreme (namely stealing the sun and moon and causing perpetual darkness while siccing bears onto victims), but when your kingdom's sole lifeline is taken away from you permanently, wouldn't you be pissed off as well?

@@mesagi3994 Mind you Kokko bird which saves Väinämöinen from the water isnt Louhi. In the battle for Sampo louhi borrows shape of one but shapeshifting is just one of her abilities and shape she needed to carry an army. "Louhi isnt so bad" perspective is a perversion born from modern day zeitgeist. She does very few things to be considered a good individual and instead people try to read what isnt written. I wonder what kind of "good" character, exchange their children for power, use plausible deniability to kill any she doesnt gain from, goes back on her words if she feels like it and refuses to share from infinite (as sampo is quite literally infinite Cornucopia). Instead its her daughters who go their way to help their potential spouses out of interest or love. Instead of just denying marriage offers, she drives them to their demise. Louhi IS bad. She is selfish, cunning, petty, greedy and wicked. Its not a matter of "which character is goodier than other". Its a matter of "what positive characteristics each character has".

Its modern day zeitgeist why people try to imagine louhi as some sort of "misunderstood heroine" and attempt to read what isnt written.. but what is written is when she quite literally sells her daughters in exchange for power, drives suitors who dont have anything she values into their ends and goes back on her words whenever it suits her. She shows hospitality to those she has something to gain from.. but.. Once she gains what she covets and has Sampo, she shows her colors and her greed. Beasts are no issue for her.. she controls them. Hunger or anything of sorts are not an issue either.. entire wedding in Pohjola is a show of her wealth. She just wants more. Once she has infinite she shares none. Väinämöinen and Ilmarinen didnt demand the Sampo. Its theft happened after Louhi denied to share anything and called her armies. Both are in the wrong and as result Sampo is destroyed. Neither gets anything.

Oh my god, Finnish curriculum on the Kalevala finally paying off! Louhi and Loviatar actually are used for the same witch who gave birth to the nine diseases (some songs have a tenth unnamed girl who is "the worst of them all") and the Northern maidens in Finnish folk poetry, the only distinction is that the name Loviatar was only really used in spells, called for healing and to banish the disease to, usually, Pohjola or the River of Tuoni. Louhi in the Kalevala gives birth to the two Northern maidens and Loviatar the nine diseases. And since Louhi here appears to take direct inspiration from the Kalevala, she'd have given birth to only the two daughters.

Im not that knowledgeable on Finnish Mythology but wouldn't it make more sense for the next Finnish servant to be Väinämöinen since he is the protagonist of the same tale Louhi is from?

@@angelusinnocentius622 That is the charm of the Kalevala; they are all in the same tale and protagonists of different sections of it. Väinämöinen, the primordial wizard. Lemminkainen, the handsome and prideful warrior that gets resurrected by his mother. Ilmarinen, the great smith who actually gets to marry one of Louhi's daughters [only for her to be killed by ...] ... Kullervo, the tragic Berserker with a minor knack for Illusions. Marjatta and her immaculately conceived son, who eventually drives Väinämöinen from the lands of Kalevala. All are in the same grand tale with interconnections in the Kalevala that Elias Lönnrot composed from various folk stories he connected. And the theft of the Sampo has multiple of them (but not Kullervo and Marjatta) team up.

@@taiwee2379 Just try regular licorice first before you go for the salty licorice (salmiakki). Regular licorice can even be quite tasty and addictive. (Neither are healthy for your cardiovascular system though.) Personally I don't think it's great and there are much better Finnish sweets, but it's certainly ..."unique".

Kalevala distinct her from Loviatar. This version of Louhi is from the Kalevala depiction, so she doesn't have the divinity and thus can be summoned normally.
