If I'm not mistaken, they also did not take away any Servants/CEs players rolled with the bugged SQ, so there is that small silver lining even if some players have gone into SQ debt. This was obviously a major bug and I agree they had to do SOMETHING; I think not doing anything the first time around was a mistake. But I also personally think a lot of people are making noise and being salty for the sake of being mad because they don't get to "have their cake and eat it" so to speak.

Nah, the problem was when they were okay to just let it go, the maroons somehow thought that it was okay to abuse and flaunt it instead and that caused non-abusers to get outraged because they didn't do anything about that part.

well I guess that is one of the advantages that FGO has by keep using its pretty outdated engine, the devs know it so well that they can make this kind of precise tunnings and configurations, which allows them to do things like put you on debt of whatever you exploited, in a newer game with devs not as experienced in its engine as FGO's something like this will be like the most catashrophic shit ever.

Honestly, this was the right call on Lasengle's part. One thing I don't see people talking about in comments is; If Lasengle didn't take back the bugged SQ and other rare materials, they are indirectly encouraging people to abuse any bug in the future, because there will be no consequences. (And with how bad the spaghetti code is, it's not a matter of if, but when it happens again.) Now we know there will be consequences, and it makes the game fairer for everyone. And people saying that it shouldn't matter because it's a single player game, know that the majority of JP players who did the right thing and didn't abuse this bug intentionally were livid when they found out that the small few who did would get away with it. That could risk those vast majority to stop supporting the game. So IMO, Lagengle did the right thing.

this is some prime "we fucked up big time, but we're going to punish the playerbase for it instead of taking responsibility for allowing something like this to happen since this IS entirely our fault and not the players in any way, but fuck them this is funnier." i recall seeing a bug situation similar to this in another game but i cannot recall what game. what they did there was less severe IMO. obviously it was a game with a server and i think it was a bug with getting a larger amount of a limited material than normal. instead of taking it ALL away including what you spent, they just equalled everybody out by lowering the maximum cap on how much you could hold. so they didnt have to give any to accounts that didnt exploit the bug, and the bug abusers still kept whatever they had earned through the exploit up to the newly reduced item cap. and if memory serves, it was an amount you would not ever be able to normally obtain for how short of a time the game had been out so it was a bit of "catching a big problem early".

Can you imagine if people with negative SQ could still roll? Seeing as they are in the negative, the reduction in SQ doesn't result in a "floor" of what is possible to roll. They are essentially underneath the zero "floor", leading to the ability to roll indefinitely as the negative theoretically has no limit to it. (-9999 SQ or more depending on how greedy DW/Lasanga were in adding digits to the counter.) Infinite summoning until your account gets perma-banned! Or underflow the counter! Just keep rolling and getting USOs. One can dream that Lasagna is foolish enough to let that happen.

No it’s just that the code is extremely outdated. It was made with 2014 mobile game standards. Also the expected lifespan of fgo was estimated to be at best 3 years long. It was basically just a ticking time bomb. They did have a little revamp (i believe it was this or last year) where they updated a bunch of the code for upcoming content. 0:52 law abiding citizen's is a funny way to say butthurt players salty they didn't abuse the bug too and get away with it. i don't have a JP account so i have no stake in this but they handled this extremely poorly, they should've just let the bug abusers go if they used the SQ already because its not hurting anyone but the company, who's mistake it was in the first place. instead now everyone has collectively put the burden and and shame onto anyone who abused the bug rather than lasagna taking responsibility for it. I have a feeling it wasn't entirely the mass of salty "do gooders" that was upset over this that drove the decision to reduct the SQ though, im sure it had alot to do with the upper management of the company that made the decision to save face and meet their qutoas. Ironically i think deducting the SQ is only going to hurt their sales because it effectively erases their free sq for months depending on how much they got from the bug, and that eliminates half of the SQ from the largest SQ pack you can buy. Of course maybe i just dont know the depths people with stoop too either because i heard someone say they'd spend $1000 to get their SQ back in the positive because they're already spent more than that on the game, the sunken cost fallacy has some people in such a tight grip that its a crippling addiction. I don't blame people for being upset because they want a piece of the pie (the SQ from the bug abuse), this game is a business and a predatory gacha so it's only fitting it cultivates greed in the community. I do blame the management at lasagna/aniplex/Sony, whoever makes the decisions on these things and for creating such a predatory gacha though.

Nah that second part is just incorrect, the massive apology and director’s letter implies its 100% a walkback on their original decision to just sweep it under the rug. Most people are not gonna buy back and it takes a lot more unnecessary dev time to track each account and do negative sq.

One of the worst and pettiest bug I've seen on recent live service game. See people in comment section all talking like some armchair morale despide the true point in here are just simple "don't exploit something you know you'll get into trouble". They could rollbacl but at a cost of have to refund massive amount of money to those spent money but it seems the debt are another nice choice since it punish those who try to exploits until the bug are fully gone. Seriously how on earth game like FGO a game that known their money through gacha using premium currency(SQ) where you can only get it without spent money but limited Have a vurnurability with that limited avaliability? The good side here is at least it's not type of a bug that can reset all your game progress which most of the time are guaranteed death sentence to any live service games.

because not everyone abused and got the same amount of SQ, some got 30, some got 100, some got the maximum limit of ~1000 SQ. There isn't a set amount of SQ that will satisfy everyone not to mention the Master Mission Rewards dont just include SQ, but other stuff too which makes the conundrum even more complex

Good to know that LS will move heaven and earth (OLD SPAGHETTI CODE BRO!) to get this done in record time. Yet we can't get some simple QOL updates let alone stuff like give lippy her summer outfit.
