The Golden Age of Hollywood! Everything about this film is wonderful, the music, the script, the direction, the actors. What a pity that Hollywood is not capable of making films like this today. This movie made me a much kinder person in 2.5 hours.This film made me much kinder, in 2.5 hours, I smiled for 2.5 hours because I was in a good mood. For many years I whistled, hummed and hummed the songs from this film, and I was in a good mood.

We ALL do this Dance of Life ....and after awhile the pain does leave when a loved one dies....BUT...for me personally the sadness is always hanging around just enough to remind me of the loss.....I lift a Glass of Champagne to 16 going on 17 Liesl....Cheers Linda!

I love this scene. Maria isn't intimidated by the Captain and demands to be treated with respect. It annoys him in the moment, but her inner fire and her unwillingness to take any BS from him is precisely what saves him and his family and makes him fall in love with her. The part where she whistles at him and he turns around and she looks at him like, "Yeah, you don't like it when it's done to you, huh?" makes me laugh every time, and it's one of my favorite exchanges between them. Also, watching this scene knowing that she apparently started falling for him the first time he blew the whistle is equally hilarious, given how she just stands there with her mouth open XD.
@TFZ.2 жыл бұрын
Lol... I once saw it worded something like when he whistled for the first time, he stood out as a truly unique and unusual MAN to her... When she sat on the pinecone, and very obviously covered the kids, SHE stood out as a truly unique and unusual woman to HIM. Also, this whole thing is just wonderful. There are so many scenes in Sound of Music between Maria and Captain von Trapp that are comically endearing and tenderly romantic. This is one of them and another is Maria's first night at dinner when after she sat on the pine cone. His expressions at Maria's gentle sarcastic speech to the children was comical . I will never tire of watching this movie and this is the umpteenth times. Rest in peace dear Christopher Plummer. You were so wonderfully romantic and an attractive Captain von Trapp.

Actually, to a navy man, it makes total sense. On a ship, yelling for people is entirely impractical. There's too wide a space and too much going on. The whistle is both loud and easily distinguished, so the commands are easily understood.

She did a fabulous job in Mary Poppins, but IIRC that was the year that My Fair Lady came out on film. Julie had played the female lead, Eliza Dolittle, on Broadway, but Audrey Hepburn was cast as Eliza in the film. Some people have theorized that her Oscar win for Mary Poppins was at least partially out of sympathy for the loss of the role of Eliza.

Aloha everyone that were responsible for this fabulous movie including the entire musical cast !!!! I love "The Sound of Music." I have watched this movie over 58 times plus !!!! And because of you all~~~the joy, heartaches, laughter, beautiful natural beauty and political challenges portrayed~~~~ made me so captivated !!!! Personally you all had an important role in extending my life span !!! Every time I listen to any of the songs from this movie, I am taking my "longevity pill." And yes, I am 78 years old and still "kicking" (He-he-he) Grateful fan, Robert S.J. Hu from Hawaii----50th State.

To me, this was the funniest scene in the whole movie & so pivotal in showing their characters' personalities!

Enjoyed this movie when I was very young. Never thought that I faced the same scene when I became a widower in my 40s with 3 young children and was looking at a new relationship. It was so difficult to get a woman into a family with children. Near impossible and it takes a lot of effort to make it work. In one of the scenario I nearly became Brady's bunch re-run.

I like it when the Captain asks her if she was that much trouble in the abbey, and she states she was much worst at the abbey..... Damn jealous of that nun , even though she was a lot of trouble within the nun sect, was so lucky to get out and found a good looking Captain and the children all grown up and ready to go....

I remember standing in que (which went around a few blocks) when I was a young man waiting to see this film. Once I got in to the theatre, I was certainly hoping it was worth it! AND BOY was it ever! I love musicals, but I loved this film because it stared two of my favorite actors. Plummer and Andrews. I will even today drop what I'm doing when the film is on the television! Even though I have the video (tape version), the DVD version, and now a film version on my computer! I may not watch the film through, but I know where all my favorite music is on the DVD!
