Hard to believe that 50 years earlier I'd been there laying the foundations for this. Back then the start line was where the finish is now and the 'crash' barriers were plywood boxes full of sand.

We dominate their racing sports so it's good that we give them a chance.

Is this a quarter mile, 1000 foot, or something else?

Judging by its time and speed this is 1000

Others have said that FIA/FIM drag strips are quarter mile and their website mentions the strip is a quarter mile long (This does not necessarily imply the race itself uses the full length). The fastest 1000 feet is 335 mph, and the best 1000 foot time is 3.64 seconds. Both the 4.157 seconds and 303 mph (3:28) could be achieved on either length track. www.dragracingeurope.eu/fiaedc/fia_racetracks/ It would just be a great help if the person posting this would add a little more detail to his publisher comments.

>It would just be a great help if the person posting this would add a little more detail to his publisher comments. cannot agree more =) My estimate about 1000 was based upon video here kzbin.info/www/bejne/n2SminqCiremnJI It says quarter in description and result is 4.48s with 338.35mph. Also it states that this is world record for quarter. Both the speed and the time are higher so I thought here the distance must be shorter. Also just checked your url to dragracingeurope, www.dragracingeurope.eu/fiaedc/racetracks/santa-pod-raceway-uk/ on this track it says "Competition Distance ¼ mile (Top Fuel Dragster 1000 ft)". So it looks like 1000 here after all.

It appears you have a better eye for detail in reading than me. Good observation. I was told that Europe's strips follow IHRA (quarter mile), instead of NHRA (1000 foot) regulations. These cars have become so damn quick that now, even the 1000 foot times and speeds exceed the quarter mile records when the regulations changed following a fatal crash back in 2008.

From wiki about quarter to 1000ft transition: The shortening of the distance was used in the FIA at some tracks, and as of 2012 is now the standard Top Fuel distance by the FIA. The International Hot Rod Association, which now sanctions Top Fuel in Australia, dropped the distance in September 2017 after Santo Rapisarda, a car owner who often runs NHRA races in the United States, pushed for the change. So no quarter already in IHRA as well, only 1000 for top fuel

Its not like the landspeed record vehicle (thrust ssc) was designed by guys from Europe was it? And the proposed challenger (bloodhound) to that record also isnt from the US?
