Thanks. Came here to see swapping brake pads. Looks pretty straight forward. One video I watched the pad has a wire in it to a sensor.

Very good tutorial Friend! My rotors are looking the same. Front brakes just started to squeal while stopping. I have 32K on em. Thank you.

I bought my pads and rotors from brakeperformance.com. they had the best prices I could find for the drilled/slotted rotors and pads. They are always having sales.

I've been thinking of saving the $100 in labor and doing this myself - this gave me the confidence I need.

Brake pads are typically much easier than most people think. Pads can be as cheap as $20 and then maybe an hour's worth of work.

Nice video. The only thing that you left out were torque specs. This can be very important for those of us that don't know our own strength. I used to have a tendency to break shit in my younger days, pre-Google obviously, but all in all , good video. Thank you!

I know this is an old video but it would be very helpful if you could tell me what size socket you used for the caliper bolts (the ones you were unscrewing at about 4:00). I'm planning to do this and if you could tell me you'd save me the time of jacking up the car and removing a wheel just to measure the bolts to see if I have the right socket. Thanks

Great video! This should help with my 500L. They are all relatively the same.

This is a bit old I know, but which pads did you go with off that site and how are they? I don't track my car, but do enjoy a nice feel in brakes. Also would like lower dust than the original pads. Thanks

Thanks Shrink1061 for correcting me. For some reason I thought he was dinking around with the rear caliper. I do know better, I should I’ve owned my 500 since 2012 and have the tool for turning and compressing the rear caliper piston. My apologies to PavementToDirt.

Hey there, how many miles did you drive before needing to change out your front BRAKE PADS??? And was it really necessary to replace the rotors?? I just was wondering 🤔
@08JKx7 жыл бұрын
Surprisingly I didn't have a tone of miles on it. I think it was around 25,000 but I've been told by other Fiat Turbo/Abarth owners that the brakes don't last long. At least not the factory ones.
@08JKx7 жыл бұрын
And no the rotors didn't absolutely need replacing but they were worn a little. Enough to where I would have had to get them turned. So I just decided to upgrade.

PavementToDirt I'm there now with my 16 500 abarth 25k miles!!!! Front still looks like 40% left on pad. But I do 90% highway driving thou. Maybe that's saving me from replacing 🤔

what was the grease for on the back of the pad? Was it grease or something else? Thanks
@jasongray20516 жыл бұрын
I believe it's just a bit of grease to help out with brake squeal. Pretty standard as far as I know.

Please use jack stands next time, for your safety

You should know you must turn the piston to compress it into the caliper.

Not on the front of these cars, only the rear caliper is wind back, front is push back only.

Never ever do this sort of maintenance on a car without using proper axle stands. The flimsy wheel changing jack is not designed for this sort of procedure. If the jack fails then you'll end up with a ruined alloy, damage to the chassis or injury.

I cannot get the caliper bolts loose to save my life. Tried wd40 and pb blaster ratchet and a mallet.

Sometimes when I'm dealing with stubborn bolts I try to turn the direction of tightening it slightly and that sometimes helps break it loose.

PavementToDirt Thanks man. I was able to get it. Had to buy a bigger ratchet. Mine was just to small. After much frustration I got wheel one done only to realize I had placed an old pad back in the caliper. Shoot me. But after wheel two I had the techniques down so opening up wheel one and replacing with the new pad was 20 minutes. I appreciate your video. Super helpful.

For the driver side I used a small ratchet and put upward pressure on the end using the floor jack. For the other side I used a long ratchet and push downward using my foot. This was the only step that I would consider difficult due to the locktite on those bolts.
