Fiat Punto Fuel Pump Change

I picked up a new fuel pump and the guy behind the counter advised me not to use the removal tool seen here. He said he’d got through 3 of them in the past, so had welded up his own heavy duty version and he loaned it to me for the day. Even with this heavy duty tool, it still took a lot of time and effort hammering on the end of the socket spanner to loosen the ring. So for those of you that think you can loosen the ring without the proper tool and use just a chisel and hammer...good luck!

Yes. You should use "ring" type tool, it will engage all 12 ribs on the nut (not only 2). Chisel + hammer + hot water sometimes work, sometimes not (then what?).

I've changed my fuel pump but now my car doesn't start. except for the first try but she was living for oly a few secons. I waited two weeks for the new fuel pump maybe there's some air in the system ? what can I try? I wasn't aware of the depressurize work.

The filter is built into the fuel pump. At least on the Grande Punto. And you need to replace both at the same time. The filter is supposed to be a "lifetime" one, according to Fiat marketing department :)

Guy who has designed the fuel pump lock is a bloody bastard. Why don’t create a thing who just need screwdrivers and wrench?

The funny thing about this is that he already had a new fual pump in the car. so the one he is showing you is the new pump. If you are dealing with an older pump u shall notice that the removal of this lock-ring is not this eazy as he shows you, u will need a strong hand to remove the ring and than replace the new pump. Stop showing people like it is an easy thing to do, because it is not.

Isn't that why he's using the tool together with the screwdriver? It should give you a hella lot of extra force.

What is most likely to fail when dash gauge isn't diplaying fuel level (panda 4x4). Pump or gauge, if I presume wiring is OK.

I think this model does not have a fuel filter, am I right? Does the tank or the fuel pump have a mesh or some kind of a filter?

the filter is indeed placed within the pump itself.

When you depressurise the fuel valve, how long do press the release valve for?

u will hear a sound of releasing air. once's it is stoped it is all done, can be 1 or 2 seconds but can be 20 seconds or longer also. if you hear nothing, this means you have no air between it and you can move on to the next step.
