I love my mk 2 1.2 16valve Cvt, it's 16 years old but still drive solid with no problems with the gearbox, it's the best automatic car I've ever owned.

I drive one of these lovely things. They aren't particularly fast, but they accelerate really quickly to about 50 km/h. Nothing like going off the lights and beating BMWs to 50. The second gear is long, like really long. You could use second gear from 0-90 km/h. I use it from 10-70 km/h (when accelerating obviously, uses so much fuel at 8k rpm). The shear sense of speed you can get in this thing is quite fun. You can get to 150 km/h, but anything after 140 km/h requires a lot of distance at full throttle.

My 13 year old 2007 Punto Mk2 1.2 8v is fantastic. Remarkable reliability, cheap to run and maintain and well built. I bought it as a well maintained 2nd owner car 5 years ago hoping it would last a few years. I've added 100000km (now 185000km total km) with zero major issues and it passes the road worthy inspection every year with only routine service and maintenance required. What more could anyone hope for from a car in this class. It's a shame FIAT discontinued the Punto marque.

Quite a good review, I just can't agree about the power steering. It's not very reliable, but in most cases it can be repaired very, very cheap. You just need to find someone who knows how to fix it (owners clubs/forums will help) and have it fixed as soon as possible.

For more than 200k ownership, I replaced them both... :D In my country was cheap to replace them. But I still think that there is something unique about this car.

One of the best small city beater cars you can buy. Cheap to buy, cheap to maintain and it will get you where you want to go. Not a nice car but a very good one at doing it's job.

Allemaal bang makerij.. Mijn Punto uit 2001 roest niet en rijdt nog erg goed. Motorisch erg sterk. Door een fout van een nieuwe monteur had ik mijn motor in de soep kunnen rijden maar is niet gebeurt. Reparaties vallen dan wel tegen maar in vergelijking met andere merken juist erg mee Vooral bij de andere garages maar controleer wel via via of de garage ook betrouwbaar is. Het is een budget auto en standaard zit er niet veel op. In tegendeel wat er word verteld in de video heeft de Punto wel standaard airbags!!

Mine is a 2001, 336,000km 1.2 16v with ABS standard (not sure it was an option) and it still goes very well!!

I've had my Punto MK3 8v active sport for 9 years. And by far one of the easiest and most simplest cars I have worked on. Forget German engineering, total rubbish compared to this little fiat. Now it depends what you want from a car. Ok so it's not the fastest, it's not do luxurious but I don't want that. I want a car that I know I can put right within a few hours should it go wrong. My Skoda Octavia is based on a Audi A3 and VW golf Mk5 and working on it has been a nightmare. Everything difficult to get to, bolts break like cheese no matter how careful you are. Snapping anti roll bars and spring due to low quality in the metal. And the bolts used are all different styles and sizes you need every tool box you can think of to work on these German cars. But fiat Punto, You can have the gear box out with 8 sockets and 8 spanners. Simple rear suspension and less to go wrong with it. In 9 years I've not needed 1 suspension bush. The Octavia is always failing. So when people say about Audi, VW Mercedes being the best I laugh. Rust heaps Go work on one. That Punto has been all over Switzerland Germany and France. It's galvanized body after 15 years had no sign of rust. Fantastic underated car. Yes it's going to have problems like any other car but man the parts are cheap and anything on the car can be fixed within about 6 hours. Clutch slave cylinder on a Punto. 10 mins. 2 bolts one clip and bleed the system. Clutch slave cylinder on a German cad Gear box out job. 2 days. I know what I'd rather have.

I could not agree more with your assessment. German cars in my experience are absolutely over rated and I have owned three of them. My Fiat Punto has been a remarkable car and still going strong after 13 years. Everything works, the air conditioning, engine and gearbox are in perfect order and there is no rust at all in the body, which is a credit to the build quality of a car that has been driven all its life on salt laden winter roads. They need only to be maintained as recommended by the manufacturers guideline and they are bulletproof.

Hoi. Ik heb een fiat Punto 1.8 16v uit 2005 op het oog. Hij heeft 165.000 gelopen en staat te koop voor €2000 euro. Er hangt een hele slechte reputatie om fiat maar ik wil graag weten hoe reeel dat is. Denken jullie dat het een slecht idee is om deze auto in 2021 to kopen?

This is just a facelift, not a new gen. Punto III = Grande Punto.

Mensen met een beperkt budget? Wat ik uit de review concludeer is dat je voor €2500 al een degelijke auto kan hebben voor niet meer dan van punt A naar B te gaan. Niet iedereen gaat een lening aan om dan een voor jou veel te dure auto aan te kopen...

Why? Is cheap af to repair and the engine is very reliable(the fire one), it may have some steerings problems and low quality interiors and chassis, but nothing too serious. As a everyday car is perfect, cheap and reliable.
