Another great broadcast featuring Martin and the Surly Scot! Nothing but love for Allan, but he does have a bit of a grumpy voice that's a great compliment to Martin's unbridled exuberance. They're a little like Ernie & Bert that way, if Ernie and Bert were experts at something. These guys all teach me so much!

there should be an LMP category just for Toyota. No point in the other lmp1s trying to compete with them.
@Maenfy6 жыл бұрын
SPOILER You know that Rebellion won the race right?
@ixiairisborne16956 жыл бұрын
Toyota was DQ'd over a technicality. I do agree, though, that the hybrids should be in a separate class because there's no way to actually equalize the 4wd hybrids and 2wd non-hybrids. Every method you could try would result in an unequal situation under pretty common scenarios, and/or result in a situation where Toyota just finds some way of achieving the same thing in a different way, like how the cars were supposed to be slowed down for 2011, but the manufacturers just harshly cut their downforce and ended up going *faster*. In Sportscar365's article about the DQ, there's a very telling line at the end. Rebellion's win was the first ever overall privateer win since the beginning of the WEC. It was the first non-hybrid win since Spa in 2012. LMP1 is rigged in the favor of the hybrids, and deliberately so, so that the ACO can push hybrid technology. I wouldn't mind this if the ACO would just own up to it and either make a separate class for non-hybrid LMP1s or just tell privateers not to bother to bring a non-hybrid. But, no, the ACO just repeatedly lies about "closing up the gap."

@@ixiairisborne1695 Yes but the new regs (GTP) are around the corner so I don't know how much sense that would make.
@ixiairisborne16956 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's far too late to do the right thing, now. It should have been done right away or at least by 2014. I won't be surprised if GTP/Hypercar has some deliberately included discrepancy in performance, however. The deliberate hybrid/non-hybrid discrepancy merely picked up where the deliberate diesel/petrol discrepancy left off, after all.
@crimson7646 жыл бұрын
Ko the Improbable They actually did try splitting up the Hybrids and Non-Hybrids in 2014. (LMP1-H and LMP1-L as it was known back then.) The problem was the lack of interest and only Rebellion and Lotus (now ByKolles) actually took part in the class. They scrapped it in 2015, because it seemed very wasteful to have a class with only 3 competitors in it, so they branded all of them (Hybrids included) as LMP1, and it remains like that in 2018.

I am a fan of Toyota but these hybrid cars gotta go. Only the big car companies can afford to run them and two of them have taken the money elsewhere (F1, FE). Toyota is essentially playing with themselves at this point. I think WEC needs to step in and allow for more privateer teams to come in to LMP1 and scratch the Hybrid category. There is no reason why Toyota has to pull off one-two victories every race. Yea, I know Rebellion won due to Toyota being DQ'd but Toyota lead the entire race. The P1 category is just boring now.

How come the Ford was allowed to pass the BMW while going 4 wheels off the track? Is this allowed in WEC? or was that a oversight? Because the Ford clearly ran wide on the track and used it to his advantage to gain a position on the BMW. Poor officiating in my mind.

I wish WEC allowed DPi entries to the series. The Cadillacs and Acuras look fabulous and they sure can hold a stick against LMP1 HY.
@crimson7646 жыл бұрын
Muhannad Aldajan Not a chance. A) the Hybrids are 4WD, the DPi’s are 2WD like the P1 privateers. And B) there’s quite a substiantial difference in torque/power. Remember that the Toyota can boost out of corners giving it 4WD. The DPi’s just can’t. Plus when the Toyota does that it has around 1000HP, whereas the DPIs make 600 at most. Still a solid 400HP down by my count.
@lpforever18546 жыл бұрын
The DPis are something between 6 and 10 seconds a lap slower than LMP1 HY cars depending on the track. The LMP1 HY simply are far better developed than DPis.
@Puffstuff236 жыл бұрын
The DPi class is basically equivalent to LMP2...Some of the smaller teams in IMSA use the standard Oreca chassis with the Gibson engine
@TheLightningwrath6 жыл бұрын
Lmp1s have so much tech crammed into them that they would could even compete against f1 (if unrestricted). They would destroy DPi cars. HOWEVER, they are so damn expensive to run. DPi cars have better manufacturer representation and are WAY cheaper to run. So the future IS DPi. Actually, the future is IMSA. If they would just have Bentley and Aston Martin compete then say goodbye to FIA.
@lpforever18546 жыл бұрын
@@TheLightningwrath I really wouldn´t call DPi the future. It has not much, if any to do with a fair competition and the manufacturers, that are currently competing in the DPi class aren´t really the creme de la creme, when it comes to racing, apart from Honda.
