Cars have electronic transponders that send signals to the timing equipment when they cross the start finish line. (and a bunch of other places)

did the 2 ferraris car numbers 50 and 51 not get penalties for the unsafe release and taking the toyota out does anyone know? edit sorry 51 did get a five second it took longer than i expected for them to dish it out edit the 50 looks like it avoided a slam dunk penalty for an unsafe release wow it shouldnt matter that it was an LMP2 car that he was released directly into the path of but i bet you if it was a hyper car especially one that it was in direct competition for position it would of been a penalty and thats not right i dont think

I mean Porsche stayed on slicks under rain conditions, Toyota/Porsche waited 3 laps before pitting under SC 6h to the end letting 83 and 50 get track position. They let them control the race not ACO.
