I just met Dr. Cusimano on the Veggie Doctor podcast and I immediately thought of Dr. B. Here I find both of them on a podcast together. Both of the nerdy doctors are awesome. Fiber Fueled is a great book; I recommend it to everyone. Plant based nutrition ROCKS and the fiber is "SEXY!" Love it! Thanks for sharing this podcast. I look forward to seeing more great interviews.

I respect book writers who have genuine qualifications associated with their chosen topic. Of course its not about the person writing the book, it's all about the evidence

Excellent interview! I have been wondering if diet is a contributer to the crazy and criminal behavior we see in so many people in America? Some people are raising their kids on junk/fast food meals with probably little fruits and vegetables and could be causing a lot of mental illness or instability.

Fascinating! And thank you for mentioning animal welfare. Most people have no idea the level of suffering involved with raising animals for food due to factory farming. Very unnecessarily so. Thanks for this great info!

I love how he said just get to 90% plant based. I can’t stand diet zealots with all of nothing mentalities.

As a CDiff survivor Im still trying to reintroduce foods to help build my microbiome back. 2 years later still have many sensitivities from it. How long can it take to gets healthy gut with eating a diversity of fiber and vegetables and fruits. Do you think the Nightshade veges are bad for us also?

World experts in gut health with MDs and PhDs: Eat more fibre! It's extremely important for the gut! Eat as many fruits and vegetables as possible! Legumes and whole grains are fantastic! Starches are great! KZbin: Ok, let's try a zero fibre carnivore diet extremely high in red meat...

Ideally 100% whole food plant based because fiber, which fuels the microbiome, is only found in the diversity of the plant kingdom. That said, since it's all about the diversity of plants in your diet, you can go at your own pace to add more varieties of fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts and seeds to any way of eating and be healthier.

I disagree. I believe in a balanced animal/plant based diet with a more natural approach: eat organic and close to the earth i.e. single source food

Great video! The doctor mentioned pro-inflammatory microbes tend to thrive in bile-rich environments. Would that render ox bile or bile salts supplements counterproductive in regard to the microbiome? I know there’s probably not an exact study on that but what would be your hypothesis? Thanks!

I found several studies about this by doing a Google search. The diversity of plants in the diet is key to a healthy microbiome, as Dr. B said in the interview. You will love his book, Fiber Fueled!

Dr. Bulsiewicz has a lot to say about it in his book, Fiber Fueled! Also there are many other KZbin interviews he has given that explain other aspects of gut health which are found in detail in the book.

That was a wonderful interview. What is insoluble fiber's job? And, since soluble fiber is so good would it make since to make homemade juice? Thank you.
@patticurry565

Insoluble fiber (roughage) is what the microbes feed upon to make the beneficial short chain fatty acids. You will get fiber in a smoothie but not in juice because the fiber is in the pulp that you are discarding. Fiber slows digestion whereas juice (fiber free) quickly spikes blood sugar levels. You will love the info and meal plan in Dr. B's book, Fiber Fueled.

Your associating Keto/Low Carb with no fiber. It sounds like your missing the little details of the diet and presenting a straw man argument. That argument would be misguided and simplistic. Please explain why? Also, your ideological plant based beliefs are seeping into your assertions, how do you respond to the argument for a balanced diet of plant & animal based foods?
