Huh; no bridge connector needed when the wiring is disconnected from the enclosure? Seems like if that wire ever comes loose, becomes damaged, or is forgotten: the door interlock is going to "fail unsafe" ?
@photonashville3 ай бұрын
That higher priced enclosure is well designed. Only hang up is that the price seems high for what it is. They should sell the better one only at $500 max and get rid of the lower end one. No need for the fiddly one at all.

Oh, I've told them that! It needs to be much cheaper, agreed.

Personally I bought just the laser proof acrylic window, and i built it out of constructiom foam/insulation board. The windoe cost $125. The foam board I already had but a sheet of it is $15 or less. No it doesn't have an interlock switch but its super simple to make one. I can't see spending that much worth it to me. The foamboard is super light, super easy to pick up. I added holes for the focus wheel and exhaust pipe and also added a light and camera. I can disconnect the camera light and fan duct and lift it off with ease. I also made the front to open from the bottom with 1/2 of each side, so for larger things I can still use it with the lid open, no need to remive it entirely.

DIY is almost always the cheaper solution. But for a business, they're not going to waste time making something.

Neat. Contemplating a fiber laser, but safety is really an issue - especially with kids in the workshop from time to time. Interlock for the win!
@RobertCowanDIY3 ай бұрын
Yeah, you'd just need to make sure they're not around while the laser is going, or use an enclosure with an interlock.

For home I will just build one. They are out of their minds with the pricing. I could build a full aluminum with lights and door switch for under 100 bucks and that's for a so-called "high end" and it would be 50% lighter than that. If this was in the 200 dollar price range for the "expensive" one it might be something the end user would buy. I have a QS-50 and I'd never spend close to 1/4 what the machine itself was for and enclosure. Anyways good video on the product, just the value is not there. Something that cost them 50 bucks to make (yes I know there is stamping tooling required for the enclosure and I know that's why the price is what it is) Please don't take this as negativity, I am just stating my own opinions and it's nothing against you or Cloudray.

The cheap one is something you could absolutely build but the nicer one is quite nice. BUT, still a bit overpriced I think.

Great video but I’m guessing at $7999 you’d think they’d have the courtesy to sell you something that wouldn’t passively blind you! Wondering why this isn’t a standard feature and not an option

Is the door safetyswitch normally open (NO), or normally closed (NC)? If the latter, then I'd consider that a safety issue (wire disconnected, pinched, cut, etc)

I estimate these two enclosure will end up on your local Craigslist very soon. At least with the cheaper one you can re-use the aluminum extrusions.

People cannot trusted with lasers to protect themselves and those around them. All the have to do is wear the proper protective glasses. Unfortunately the lawyers want a piece of the action and will push any injury to go to trial and stick it to the laser manufacturer for not protecting his product. That's why everything is so expensive. I have a friend who bought one of the cheap lasers, 2MW or less for his kids projects. Kids were told they could only use it when he was home. He went to work and his 13 year son wondered if the laser would cut finger nails. He found out the bloody way that it will. At least dad told to suck it up and be glad he didn't cut a finger off.
@RobertCowanDIY3 ай бұрын
Giving a kid a 2mW laser is kinda irresponsible, especially if it's one of the unknown brands from amazon. that's VERY VERY different from this.

The vents on the bottom need a baffle, i can see the base right through it! A inclosure on such a laser is nearly useless until it's absolutely laser tight! With such bad inclosures I would rather wear eye protection around them anyway, wich makes them completely obsolete. That might be a reason why they sell them as such... You need eye protection anyway if you deal with a not fully integrated laser system like that. So what's the point. Just gives you a false sense of protection!

+1 for that

'laser tight'? I don't think that's how lasers work...
@martin090919893 ай бұрын
@@RobertCowanDIY Sry, as a non nativ English speaker I might be a bit off in expression.... I mean light tight or shutt off inclosure. If you have any gap in your inclosure what so ever, you risk to get a reflections of the laser out that in every imaginal way! And such an inclosure might capture 99% of that, but the 1% of chance might give you another blind spot in your eyeball! Not worth it, or I am wrong!?
@RobertCowanDIY3 ай бұрын
@@martin09091989 For any damage, the light needs to be focused. If the light reflects and bounces off surfaces, it will diffuse and scatter quickly and will not pose much of a risk. I don't see having vents at the bottom an issue at all. I would challenge someone to reflect a fiber laser at that angle and still have it cause any damage. They have a very narrow focus and even a few inches away it would be too wide to really cause any issue even IF you could get a good reflection out of it.
@martin090919893 ай бұрын
@@RobertCowanDIY Then why bother with safety equipment at all around those lasers? High power Lasers are dangerous at any time, not just when they are focused. Because it's a coherent light source it can potentially focus on your retina in any odd reflection. I wouldn't half ass such safety equipment!
