I love this. Thank you so much for introducing this. I hadn’t heard of Calx before. What kind of concentration did you use in your modifier bath? Your results were great, especially that last one, done on the diagonal.

Wonderful to hear, Sue! I mention the ratio in the video for each modifier based on using 2 liters of water. If you need to increase your volume of liquid to accommodate your more fiber, just increase the modifier in the same ratios. You can use the video chapter timer in the description above to jump right to each of those spots for tannin bath, iron bath & calx bath 😊

I really love this combination, and like you, the cloud fold is now one of my favorite binding techniques 💕 I don't use any salt normally in my dye practice, although it appears to be an important element in rust printing to help with the bond. How do you use epsom salts in your dye studio?

@MargaretByrdColorQuest Not very satisfactory. I still couldn't find aluminium acetate in Sri Lanka . So I experiment with all kinds of mordants. 😂

No frets on the aluminum acetate. Honestly, a two step process with tannin and aluminum sulfate works wonderfully. It just takes a bit longer. ¡Hola a ti! Me alegro mucho de que te hayan encantado los resultados No es necesario tratar previamente la fibra con un mordiente porque estás utilizando dos mordientes en el proceso: tanino y hierro.

Hello...I enjoy your videos immensely. I'm wondering tho if you discuss responsible diaposal of chemicals/additives/shifters? I'm an off-grid dyer so always look into these things before trying them. From what I've been reading CALX is a hazardous material that has to be handled very carefully...cannot go down drains/into sewers without being neutralized first...and even that in small amounts. How are you neutralizing the CALX? Ty!

Thanks so much for being here with us at Color Quest 🌼 Great question regarding neutralizing CALX. As a high level alkaline, you could try neutralizing it by slowing adding water and a citric acid solution or a natural acid like vinegar or lemon juice. I am unable to give you a measurement, but if you have access to litmus paper, you can check to make sure the solution is back to a neutral pH before disposing of it.
