I spray painted mine with flex seal. It adds a rubber type coating. So far good after a half dozen trips.

I bought an 8' tomato stake at Home Depot- under $5. It floats if you drop it. pvc T handle. I have a Blakemore brush gripper fore and aft for various winds, squeeze gripper to open jaws around the stakeout pole, weight of gripper slides down to lake bottom, lessening the leverage of pulling stake loose as opposed to having rope at top. When moving to another spot if you pull stake up and angle pole 9 times out of 10 gripper stays on pole because it catches on the little strengthening ribs. Very handy tool in shallow water👌

Thank you for that great recommendation!

Coated mine with bed- liner, worked very well, painted over bed liner with spray paint, as no UV protection in bedliner. Good grip, and it is sealed against fibers shedding off.

I use a plastic 8ft plant stake . Light weight and floats. Like the red heat shrink on fiberglass pole too . Set the hook brother

I used an 8-foot garden stake (it works great and rides perfectly in my paddle keeper), and added a feature to protect the pole and my scupper holes. I taped a foot of foam pipe insulation around the pole just tight enough to stay in place but loose enough to slide up and down the pole. When I deploy the pole, I slide the pipe wrap down and into the scupper hole to keep the pole snug and eliminate any friction. Also reduces noise.
@KayakhacksFishing5 жыл бұрын
That's a great idea. I bet that provides some protection to prevent the scupper from cracking as well.
@jimking22995 жыл бұрын
I'm very conscious of that. The foam reduces stress on the scupper walls and keeps the pole from jamming. I don't use the pole in high winds or against strong currents. That seems like tempting fate.

Heat shrink tubing, as a rule, reduces up to 50% when heated, so for any easier install you could try the 1" heat shrink for a ¾" pole, especially if it comes with an adhesive lining. I'll post an update if it works well on mine when I get one.

I appreciate that! So far, so good on this pole - no splits

I got mine at AM Leonard before they started having crazy shipping prices. Other folks (you can read the comnents) said they got them at Lowes or Home Depot. If you have a local farmer supply store, I bet they would have them as well.

I got my pole online when the vendor had free shipping. Others have said they got poles at Lowes/Home Depot. I got the heat shrink tubing from Amazon - amzn.to/2MX7Jl2 Unless you can get free shipping or find it in a store, it's cheaper just to buy a commercial pole.
