I personally really prefer the height of theoriginal EVA on the prototype compared to what's it got replaced with, the stock eva sole that comes on the baobab The new eva mini lug sole looks very tall, almost like it's a platform sole. I really like the prototype sole because it only has the patch of eva on the heel but has very little under the toebox so the sole doesn't have a bunch of unnecessary height while still having the softer material where it's most needed.

I'm really liking how the Oringo wedge sole doesn't pick up mud in the bush.

As I watch more of how this company manufactures their work boots, it makes me even more interested in purchasing a pair of boots from Jim Green. The craftsmanship looks outstanding, and that beautiful worn-in look the leather produces as it is being worn is fantastic! Keep it up ya'll doing great work!

I work in a pair of steel toe razorbacks. Had to get a better arch support but once I did I’ve worn mine for 15 plus hours. Hoping you guys still make a standard steel toe Razorback and that when I need to get my current pair resoled that I’m not going to have to do a custom order to get another one

I love your boots no matter the midsole. My African rangers are daily use and my numzaan are for casual wear. Anxiously awaiting my custom rangers

I really like my Razorback. I only wish that they came with a leather insole and midsole.

I love the leather midsole because I don't use any extra insole on top of it. I also have two pair of safety toe JG's and I don't have enough room in the toe if I try to wear them with insoles but they fit me perfectly without insoles. I wouldn't mind if you used a softer/thicker leather though, something that's easier to form to the shape of your foot.

Just curious- When sanding down the bottom of the midsole, how do you know you aren't breaking the stitching?
@JPTHRICE2 ай бұрын
i asked myself the same question!
@omercarrothers75372 ай бұрын
I was wondering the same thing!
@jakepassolt96402 ай бұрын
I always wondered that too. I'm assuming either it's a buffing wheel, not a sanding wheel, or the stiches are normally recessed due to the tension from the stitching process so they aren't hit by the sander
@JimGreenFootwearOfficial2 ай бұрын
@trailsandhikes when sanding down the bottom of a midsole, it's important to be mindful of the stitching, however the stitches are countersunk deep into the microfibre board making no contact when sanding to prevent any accidental damage.

This was interesting, but maybe some captions or voice over would be nice. After the video i still don't understand how the resoles were different in comparison. Super excited for the next custom boot rack!!!!

Cool Video. Are you using primer now before applying glue to the soles?
@JimGreenFootwearOfficial2 ай бұрын
Thank you for the positive feedback @ckra2001 for new shoes primer is applied before glue to the soles of shoes, however when resoling shoes, it is important to clean the old sole thoroughly to remove any dirt, debris, and old adhesive residue which we do with the scourer machine .This helps to roughen up the surface and create a better bond between the new sole and the shoe. Once the sole is clean, a layer of solution is applied and left for few minutes to dry before the second layer of solution can be applied.

few months ago i bit the bullet and ordered a pair of custom african rangers as my first pair of JGs and i love them alot but i do think not going for leather midsole was one if not the only mistake ive made, i think the fibre midsole is a weak spot for rainy european climates, hiking boots should work in every condition! Maybe im totally wrong, i have no comparison, perhaps JG can make a video on how they compare long term in rainy terrain and what can be done to improve them care wise. either way - im not going to baby them when its wet outside..
@dubester1982Ай бұрын
Water gets into the stitching on the ARs, and with single lasted boots, you feel it immediately. You can wax the fiberboard and stitching so itll stave off wicking water to some degree, but again, itll be coming into the boot via the stitches before the midsole is problematic most of the time. If your customs are double lasted like the Razorbacks however, they will be significantly more water resistant. I own 8 pairs of JG boots in both single and double lasted varieties with both midesole types as a reference point
@JPTHRICEАй бұрын
@@dubester1982 funny i did actually wax them the other day! i made sure to do get it really in the stitch down and around the fiberboard edge, and sprayed the rest with conditioner and proofer. on the very next day we got caught in torrential rain - soaked of course lol i didn't expect anything else tbh but my double lasted Meindl Badiles would've kept me dry (way different kind of boot to be fair) another thing is drying the ARs, it took them 4 days to get halfway dry. i love them but my next JG will be double lastet, leather midsole, something with taller outsole - the oringo wedge is so low and thin even shallow puddles are an issue and probably a different model alltogether. AR are great light summer shoes, that look good even wearing shorts - for light hikes on sandy terrain or just casual wear

*👋❤️🔥Hello, very good, make more videos like this,🔥 but it seems to me that on the first one you could not change the sole, but restore the old one, I also make videos about shoes🥰🤗*
@JimGreenFootwearOfficial2 ай бұрын
@Pro-shoe-repair thank you for the positive feedback on our videos, it's always good to know when our viewers are inspired by our content. Regarding the re-soling process, every shoe / boot sent in for re-soling is issued a new sole. In this case the existing EVA midsole was proving difficult to remove therefore to ensure the best possible repair, we removed as much of the old EVA as we could, then shaved down the balance and added a new EVA layer before applying the new sole.

The first pair of boots the shank looked to far back in the boot, but both boots look really nice and I am sure can handle hardy work. It didn't look like it would really help support the drop in the boot and a little messy with polish getting it on the sides of the sole.
