Can you use caulk in the seams so there’s no raised bump at the seams or will it have a chemical reaction?

Yes you can but I will recommend wood filler, silicone or best the adhesive from curit

Your attention to detail is fantastic. I had a loft conversion done with this type of system on the flat dormer roof. And within 2 weeks I can see damp spots on the ceiling beneath after rain. They then put another layer of top coat and it looks like this has stopped it but it's too early to tell as I had it done recently. I worry there is a bigger problem actually and in 2-3 years I need to get whole roof replaced!

No you need to put a nother layer on top of fibre if not the osb will have to be changed and if you take the osb out you might damage the ceiling. Top coat it's just to protect the fibreglass from the sun

I have a similar problem. Roof is in 2 years and a wet patch has only just formed. If the whole roof is sanded down to the fibre glass, Is it a case of fibre glassing over the original fibreglass. I don’t think the roof boards are damaged as only recent leak. My main question to you is : can new fibre glass be put on the original fibreglass? Thank you, great video.

@@gregoh5470 yes it can be done but you just have to make sure that all its sandet properly and clean after from the dust with acetone.

Great video, Just a quick question, I have got a new roof done, two layers of fibreglass with top coat. However, I notice a bit of pooling on top when it rains. Will this cause me problems or will the two layers protect. The fall on the roof is at the minimum level of the regulations, but still within regulation.

The regulations are usually very wrong because it's a minimum requirement it's always good to go beyond that. You've done something very good by putting 2 layers down that it will be more then enough to hold the water away but not the birds they will know in to that puddle till they will make a hole. Hopefully not

Does your raised edge trims have any end caps or do you just cover with fibre

There are some corner caps but are very bulky and ugly best is to do it with fibreglass but fill the gap first if not you are going to struggle a bit with the fibreglass

Hello.... I see in other videos on this subject that the 3mm expansion joint in the OSB is not filled in and that all joints are covered with fibreglass bandage before putting on the top layer of CSM, why do you prefer not to use that method and is there an advantage other than time and materials saving?

If you put more fibre on the joints you are going to get a lot of uneven surfaces and water can stay there and also it's not going to look very nice

Can you use 18mm ply or does it need to be osb

Definitely not ply just osb or chipboard the play it will start to delaminate after some time and that it's trouble

its an easy process when you work slowly and carefully i usually apply 2 layers of fiber glass to eliminate any air pockets or pin holes but what you do still works atb

To avoid raised seams… Can you do two layers? Like stacking bricks? Butt the first layer then the next layer buts to each other off the centre of the ones below? Will it last longer being double layered? I won’t have to do it for another 20+ years? 🙏🏻🙂

Nice job one mistake you did not use a pu adhesive on all of your trims over time they will buckle and flap about in the wind

Hopefully not, and definitely, i will not trust the adhesive to do a better job with the passing of time. I always prefer mechanical fixings. But thanks for sharing. i will definitely take that in to consideration

Why you foaming the joints, and tapping with duck tape, resin is meant to get into t&g boards, but duct tape is shit !! And not how it’s done, bandage the joints if not used t&g boards

Depending how is done if a quick cheap job around 6 months to 5 years tops. If is a good job will last for more than 25 years that the supplier guarantees

I cut out the empty space underneath and fill it up with more fibreglass. You don't really need to, but that's just a precaution that i take.
