Fibromuscular Dysplasia of the Renal Arteries

Fibromuscular dysplasia is a non-inflammatory arteriopathy which when it affects the renal arteries leads to hypertension and reduced kidney function. The most common type is medial fibroplasia, characterized by alternating and stenoses and aneurysms creating a “string of beads” appearance on imaging.
