Spider-Man
Greatest Hero of Japan
Rides a car
Has a 'bot
Confuses Esh an awful lot
Look out!
Here comes the Spider-Man!
In the 1970'ies, as Marvel was trying to get as many media outlets to adapt their properties as possible, a strange pairing was made. A match made in heaven - or at least in some bizarre Tokusatsu universe.
Toei and Marvel puit their heads together and created the absurd, hilarious and absolutely bonkers awesome wonder that is JAPANESE SPIDER-MAN in 1978, with all the giant robot riding monster killing you could possibly wanna shake a stick at!

Something I rarely hear people talk about is Ultimate Spider Man for the GameCube. It's a really fun game that still holds up today with its game play and story.

2:00: No, Marvel's movie writes to their characters where all over the place because selling off the movie writes is how Marvel got itself out of bankruptcy after the speculater bubble burst during the 90's

It's bonkers and very different - but it sure does keep the spirit of Spider-Man alive.

@ The spirit definitely lives on! I'm a big fan of Toei's tokusatsu shows from that period like Goranger and Robocon, so their Spider-Man show is right up my alley.

To provide some further context; The reason why these anime/tokusatsu "movies" are basically an episode in widescreen is because of the format they were created for. Manga Matsuri's or Comic Festivals, was a seasonal event put in theaters each year. 3-5 featurettes all in one screening sitting. Spidey was sharing a screen with Puss 'N' Boots, Captain Harlock, Candy Candy, etc. All the featurettes together would equate out to 2 hours or so

I'd honestly love to see you take a look at kamen Rider kuuga. The monsters in that are sadistic bastards that individually have kill counts in the dozens at least. Kuuga is straight up a horror series half the time kzbin.info/www/bejne/d6TddWuDarmWqKssi=QsSpk9zILbrkm77k

@@klunk279 I watched most of the 2000-2010 Kamen Rider shows a few years ago. Own a Ryuki figure. I don't remember much of Kuuga specifically, but I did enjoy it.

Kuuga is a really interesting show especially in contrast to alot of the more recent rider shows. While I feel Kuuga isnt exactly a horror centric show the scale of the monsters violence and the reason they commit their heinous acts can be quite scary but equal parts hilarious aswell. In order to level up in their clan they gotta score big points in their murder Olympics, while placing certain rules and stipulations on themselves such as only killing people at certain times or in specific ways. And while that does give you chilling scenes like the one where a lady grongi decapitates people with blades so sharp the people dont even know they have been cut. ON the other hand you get darkly hilarious stipulations like the grongi who runs over women with hand bags with a delivery van or the one that just throws canon balls off the top of buildings. Its certainly not a show thats trying to be super grim dark like the garo franchise.
