Fiddle Edge ’Dobro’ replica by Michael Messer Guitars - a review.

Michael Messer is long established blues musician and resonator guitar expert who has handled hundreds of new and old resonator instruments.
His brand MM guitars decided to reproduce the fabled Dobro Fiddle Edge guitar of the 1930s.
A rare instrument that has obtained collectible status.
We share sounds, history and a few suggestions on possible uses.
In the process of recreating them MM found out why so few had been made originally but also made them available on the open market again with a few tweaks to improve them.

Martyn, I discovered this re-creation through your podcasts with Michael Messer, and felt frustrated not to be able to listen to the instrument itself. Now you've lifted this frustration feeling, and the only thing I regret is, not to have the cash at hand to get myself one before the only run produced is sold out. Thanks anyway to provide so much infromation and tips about playing these underrated and little-known instruments,v that I've learned to love.

I'm a big fan of Michael's music and his DVD tutorials on slide guitar and lap steel really got me into slide guitar. I have a Regal RD-45 spider bridge resonator but my pride and joy is a Michael Messer Blues '28 wooden bodied biscuit bridge resonator which has a wonderful vintage sound. Michael produces some great instruments at very affordable prices and has them set up by Dave King so you really can't go wrong.

There’s a guy called Snakehips on KZbin who plays some great stuff on this model. Truly a sweet sound with the blues grunt. I hope they do another production run since the collectibility factor is now making them quite expensive -though not without reason!

There will be no more runs. The body factory don’t do guitars and already stopped at something like 360 guitars when 500 was the initial plan. They’re too difficult to make. We all know Richard or Snakehips. He’s an incredible player / singer with a ludicrous set of cool old instruments. Dentist in Edinburgh by day / blues king by night.

Martyn, that is one gorgeous guitar. Being a National guitar lover, I used to think think Dobros weren't as good. I've changed my mind due to your previous demo vid.
