Hi thanks for this, I’m looking to getting into a bit of slide again. Might be a bit of a long shot, but have you played any Harley Benton res guitars? I’m eyeing up the CLR-Chrome 😂
@58landmanКүн бұрын
Overall I liked the newer models. I would love to hear you play a few of the current National offerings, models that are in reach of anyone who wants one. I do like the old guitars but, most things being equal, I believe in buying a newer model. Despite the hype or what a person might think, there is no magical mojo in the versions that were made during the early years of production. They are just old guitars.

Robert Johnson played and recorded with either with a Gibson made "Kalamazoo" K-14 or a "Stella" branded parlour guitar. He preferred those because they didn't cost much money and they sounded good compared to other cheaper priced guitars for that era.
@TheWashboardResonators6 күн бұрын
There’s no solid evidence for what he actually played on the recordings. We know he had to borrow a guitar on the first session.
@WillieDines15 күн бұрын
@@TheWashboardResonators watch the interview videos with Johnny Shines, who travelled repeatedly with Robert and was about the most straight shooting, no bullshit speaker about Robert, as was Honeyboy Edwards. Robert Johnson preferred a Kalamazoo or a Stella branded guitar, but the one Robert had been using was an archtop acoustic that also had "F" sound holes in the body. The guitar Robert had initially used to record in San Antonio, was lost when a hotel that Robert and Johnny had been staying in caught fire.

Excellent discussion and very informative. What is the method of work to move a biscuit bridge slightly fore or aft? Every string is sharp 10-12 cents; Recording King Nickel Style-0 Resonator w/ Roundhole Cone
@TheWashboardResonators9 күн бұрын
You can move the whole cone within the well back towards the tailpiece. Twist it so the bridge is slightly further back on the bass side and restring and check. Could be that if you don’t have the adjustment left you’ll need someone to make a new biscuit and route a slot for the bridge further back.

I've got two '34s, one has a Hawaiian Hula scene on the back that was painted in 1945. The other had a bone bridge fashioned for it at some point, which is amazing to me, because the original cones seemed to be put on with carpet tacks. The cone in that guitar is original and there's no apparent evidence of having been worked on. The B guitar sounded more like my Trojans. I think the different endpieces affect the timbre slightly also.

If you want to go super nerdy, try swapping out coverplate styles. I was shocked when I put a nickel plated brass chicken foot coverplate on my Delphi. I think the changes you can get in timbre from small changes on resos is what keeps me fascinated with them. String material, slide material, fingers, picks, fingernails all give such dynamic differences, it's like having a harem of guitars with one instrument. But they're like potato chips(crisps) nobody eats just one.

They both are great. I have a 1998 National Style N. I have found that every one sounds slightly different and much depends on the metal alloy used as well the cone. I've been recently trying to flatpick jazz on my National which is challenging due in large part to the volume and sustain that is overpowering. Thanks for the video.

Why did that guy remove those internal supports? That definitely affected the timbre of the instrument, BIG TIME! When NRP started using their Hot Rod cone as the stock cone, it made a very positive difference in the sound of their instruments. I have a Delphi and a Radio Tone that were built before the Hot Rod cone was standard, and have since upgraded and the tonal differences are profound. With regards to your vintage style O, you should have the supports put back in. It'll make a difference.
