@briand9864 жыл бұрын
Fidelity’s Zero Large Cap FNILX and Zero Extended Index FZIPX complement one another well and used in the right weighting approximate the Zero Total Stock Market Index. Joe’s knock on FZIPX is unfair because he compares it to standard completion index funds that are designed to complement a S&P 500 index fund. Since FNILX is not a S&P 500 Index fund the comparisons are not accurate. Joe does not mention that Tesla is a large cap stock and a top 20 holding in the FNILX. This explains why FZIPX does not hold Tesla. Since Tesla has not been added to the S&P 500 index yet the standard completion index hold this large cap stock as one of its largest holdings - for now. For investors that hold FNILX and FZIPX in the right percentage their performance will compare reasonably to an investor who holds a S&P 500 Index fund and a completion index fund over the long run. Joe’s video used a short period of time and compared funds that have different objectives.

@briand9863 жыл бұрын
@@michaeljaf5734 Michael the Zero funds are excellent funds for your Roth IRA. I choose to hold FZROX in my Roth IRA because I want to buy and hold the total market at the cap-weighted values. FZIPX is worthwhile if you are trying overweight smaller companies or decide to target a unique ratio between FZIPX and FNILX. Since nobody knows what the optimal split is, I favor holding the whole market in a single fund.
@michaeljaf57343 жыл бұрын
@@briand986 thanks I see. I literally opened one yesterday and invested into a Schwab ETF. Didn’t realize they will charge fees until I started doing more research I’m definitely gonna sell it and put it into a zero fund. Do you diversify into different zero funds such as the international one?

FZIPX (Fidelity ZERO Extended Market Index) follows the Fidelity U.S. Extended Investable Market Index which is a float-adjusted market capitalization-weighted index designed to reflect the performance of U.S. mid- and small-cap stocks. This index is a subset of the Fidelity U.S. Total Investable Market Index, excluding the 500 largest companies. VEXAX (Vanguard Extended Market) Follows S&P Completion Index. FSMAX (Fidelity Extended Market Index Fund) follows the Dow Jones U.S. Completion Total Stock Market Index. The later two are very similar because they both exclude the S&P 500. But all three are following different index. The first one just happened to divert considerably because it is excluding the largest 500 stocks which aren't necessarily the same as excluding the S&P 500. S&P 500 stocks are selected by Standard and Poor's corporation and not strictly based on size of the company. In this case, Tesla is not part of the S&P 500 but apparently was one of the largest 500 stocks. Since float adjusted market weighting tends to put more weight in those larger companies, the index itself got skewed in the later two funds but not impacted by the first. I wouldn't call FZIPX a fund to avoid just from that. In fact, it is probably following its objective perfectly. It compliments Fidelity ZERO Large Cap Index Fund (FNILX) which is Fidelity's Index that follows the largest 500 stocks. If you weight both FZIPX and FNILX I bet you get the performance that very closely matches FZROX. So no, FZIPX is not junk.

maybe Fidelity includes Tesla in the large cap. If Tesla performed well it would have almost no impact in the large cap as its market cap is at the bottom of the large cap. In the extended, it is the top holding so it brings the performance of fund up.

This video is not aging well, FZIPX has been killing it since this was posted.

Touché. I pinned a comment on the video to advise I have done update on this one. Either way, I think I am going to update the title on this video. I do not want to appear like clickbait.

@@AverageJoeInvestor Awesome channel, I've been subscribed for a while. I was researching the fund and this video came up. I noticed the fund took off right after the video was posted. I ultimately went with Fidelity's Small Cap Value Fund which has been doing great since this was posted as well.

"I don't see why anyone would buy FZIPX" 9 months later +64.64% return on the 1 year - it wasn't doing well early on
@vikasgaddu3 жыл бұрын
FZIPX 1yr return is +44.91%, so after all not that bad.

Can anyone create their own ira account separate from their employee ira
@AverageJoeInvestor3 жыл бұрын
YES, you absolutely can create your own personal IRA or Roth IRA Account with Fidelity or any other brokerage EVEN IF you have access to a 401(k) with your employer. Hope that helps! THANK YOU for watching and for leaving your $0.02 in the comments! 😎👍🏻

I was getting nervous when you were getting towards the end and FZILX was still a sucks candidate haha. Glad it wasn’t. For index funds, I own FXAIX-one of my IRA cores- and FZILX. I had FTIHX and FZROX for a while, but once I started getting heavier and more knowledgeable on dividend stocks, I sold them due to redundancy.

FXAIX is great...Slow and boring but steady😎

Fidelity has $0 buy in. Vanguard has a $3000 minimum.
@AverageJoeInvestor3 жыл бұрын
That is true Tony. The other option though is to own Vanguard's ETF versions of the assets which also have a $0.00 minimum. You are right though that Fidelity DOES HAVE the $0.00 minimums which are great for the Average Joe investor out there. THANK YOU for watching Tony and for leaving your $0.02 in the comments! 😎👍🏻

Hey Joe - Recently started watching your videos. I am brand new to the investing world. I recently used Vanguard and purchased Index funds (VTSAX, VFIAX) and a few ETF's (VOO, VTI, VYM). I did so without really knowing much about investment strategies. In your opinion, should I have used a different strategy? Did I buy at the worst time possible? HELP! 😢 BTW, I am 51 years old, recently retired and I am collecting a pension from NYC.
