Nobody can become financially successful over night. They put in background work but we tend to see the finished part. Fear is a dangerous component, hindering us from taking bold steps we need in other to reach our goals.

Fidelity’s Zero Large Cap FNILX and Zero Extended Index FZIPX complement one another well and used in the right weighting approximate the Zero Total Stock Market Index. Joe’s knock on FZIPX is unfair because he compares it to standard completion index funds that are designed to complement a S&P 500 index fund. Since FNILX is not a S&P 500 Index fund the comparisons are not accurate. Joe does not mention that Tesla is a large cap stock and a top 20 holding in the FNILX. This explains why FZIPX does not hold Tesla. Since Tesla has not been added to the S&P 500 index yet the standard completion index hold this large cap stock as one of its largest holdings - for now. For investors that hold FNILX and FZIPX in the right percentage their performance will compare reasonably to an investor who holds a S&P 500 Index fund and a completion index fund over the long run. Joe’s video used a short period of time and compared funds that have different objectives.

@@michaeljaf5734 Michael the Zero funds are excellent funds for your Roth IRA. I choose to hold FZROX in my Roth IRA because I want to buy and hold the total market at the cap-weighted values. FZIPX is worthwhile if you are trying overweight smaller companies or decide to target a unique ratio between FZIPX and FNILX. Since nobody knows what the optimal split is, I favor holding the whole market in a single fund.

FZIPX (Fidelity ZERO Extended Market Index) follows the Fidelity U.S. Extended Investable Market Index which is a float-adjusted market capitalization-weighted index designed to reflect the performance of U.S. mid- and small-cap stocks. This index is a subset of the Fidelity U.S. Total Investable Market Index, excluding the 500 largest companies. VEXAX (Vanguard Extended Market) Follows S&P Completion Index. FSMAX (Fidelity Extended Market Index Fund) follows the Dow Jones U.S. Completion Total Stock Market Index. The later two are very similar because they both exclude the S&P 500. But all three are following different index. The first one just happened to divert considerably because it is excluding the largest 500 stocks which aren't necessarily the same as excluding the S&P 500. S&P 500 stocks are selected by Standard and Poor's corporation and not strictly based on size of the company. In this case, Tesla is not part of the S&P 500 but apparently was one of the largest 500 stocks. Since float adjusted market weighting tends to put more weight in those larger companies, the index itself got skewed in the later two funds but not impacted by the first. I wouldn't call FZIPX a fund to avoid just from that. In fact, it is probably following its objective perfectly. It compliments Fidelity ZERO Large Cap Index Fund (FNILX) which is Fidelity's Index that follows the largest 500 stocks. If you weight both FZIPX and FNILX I bet you get the performance that very closely matches FZROX. So no, FZIPX is not junk.

Hi Joe, FZIPX is much much better shape now, by the time you were making video i know it was terrible but now it is fantastic because by today ( 04/05-2021, it says one year return is 97%, it’s beating any other index funds out there. Avery Robbins FNILX does not track the S&P 500. Their composition is very similar but FNILX can hold any large cap stock that meets its criteria, including stocks that S&P has not added to its official index. A prime example of a stock currently held in FNILX but not Fidelity’s S&P 500 Index Fund FXAIX is Tesla. The performances of the two indices are very comparable but the differences go beyond expense ratios and tracking errors.

I know it's confusing. Index Funds are actually a type of mutual fund. They are passively managed which means there is no fund manager making buy and sell decisions trying to BEAT the stock market. Like Lori said, if it says INDEX in the fund name, its an index fund. =) THANK YOU for watching Outdoorsy Wanna be and for leaving your $0.02 in the comments! 😎👍🏻

Fidelity zero funds have been great! Although those low reinvested dividends will cause it to fall behind their Index competitors in 20+ years of holding.

What if I told you the investment returns of a vanguard fund minus the fee still out perform the fidelity funds..... Might not be true anymore, but was when they were first released. I'd also rather pay for a honest product rather than a lost leader (or basically a fish hook they're trying to get you in with to charge fees on other products).

Paying out yearly vs quarterly seems to be a big difference.... quarterly your interest would compound.... 3x before. U should invest 1k in each and then do $100/week in each and see what the account balance is after 12 to 14 months.

Just had this video show up on recommended, and i have to wonder why the title says 2020 full review, yet the video was from August?? You use a different calendar than the rest of us??
@AverageJoeInvestor
@AverageJoeInvestor 3 жыл бұрын
Touché -- What I was going for was "2020" because Hey I created the video in the Year 2020 AND "FULL REVIEW" meaning a comprehensive review of the index funds BUT when you put the words together it sounds like the full 2020 review which is not possible in August, LOL. IF you are interested I happen to have a COMPREHENSIVE Fidelity ZERO review coming out THIS MORNING at 9am that goes more in depth than this video. =) THANK YOU for watching Grimrpr6942 and for leaving your $0.02 in the comments! 😎👍🏻

@@AverageJoeInvestor Awesome channel, I've been subscribed for a while. I was researching the fund and this video came up. I noticed the fund took off right after the video was posted. I ultimately went with Fidelity's Small Cap Value Fund which has been doing great since this was posted as well.

I was getting nervous when you were getting towards the end and FZILX was still a sucks candidate haha. Glad it wasn’t. For index funds, I own FXAIX-one of my IRA cores- and FZILX. I had FTIHX and FZROX for a while, but once I started getting heavier and more knowledgeable on dividend stocks, I sold them due to redundancy.

Hey Joe - Recently started watching your videos. I am brand new to the investing world. I recently used Vanguard and purchased Index funds (VTSAX, VFIAX) and a few ETF's (VOO, VTI, VYM). I did so without really knowing much about investment strategies. In your opinion, should I have used a different strategy? Did I buy at the worst time possible? HELP! 😢 BTW, I am 51 years old, recently retired and I am collecting a pension from NYC.
