This was filmed in Kelowna, BC. I used to live a couple blocks away of where the house is. One night I was just out for a walk and having a peak when they asked if I wanted to come check out what they were filming. It was the scene where he’s in the backyard staring up at the sky. They asked me what song they should have playing during this and they played some old records. I told them the song I preferred but the song was different during the final cut. It was cool to see a film being made. I really miss my old job working at Rogers Video btw. Best job, ever.

I'm impressed that with such an out there premise of "What if everyone had their on zombie servant" could have such profound commentary on life during the Red scare.(But for me at least, I also saw it as like commentary on how the 1% treats the underclass, basically treating them as mindless worker drones.)

Never heard of this film but it looks really sweet, it’s going on the must-see list. Keeping zombies as pets seems like such a stupid idea when you know that with one wrong move, everything is over and you’ve just caused the death of everyone you know! Mind you, I suppose people irl keep lions and tigers and bears as pets 🤷🏻♀️ so that’s something new for me to worry about. Also, at some point you said “…both men are guffawed…”, when the wife told a man to get his own beer I think. A “guffaw” is a loud belly laugh, not a state of shock or whatever, so yeah, you probably won’t even read this but I wanted to share that with you.

This is such a gem of a film. Purposely bad taste jokes, but with a message.
@chestnut486028 күн бұрын
Excellent satire of the 1950'es (from what I know, wasn't born then) but the dad obviously has legit trauma having to kill his own father as a fucking child but that is treated with the same callusness and the line of "just because your dad tried to eat you does that mean we all have to be miserable" is cruel and dismissive of that.
@chewviewleonardo651128 күн бұрын
True, the dad did not have someone to empathize with when talking about it. The married couple don't converse well. They had plenty of time to resolve that sentiment but it was an internal struggle from the father. Like the movie showed, his distractions separated himself from his immediate family. Too real. It devolved into a sensitive topic for the two.
@conedx28 күн бұрын
is it cruel and dismissive, though? given the world they live in...basically everyone has went through that or something similar. it's like letting a car wreck control your entire life in the real world.
@bubalackgaming889218 күн бұрын
@@conedx It's totally cruel and dismissive. That's like how people dismissed WW1-2 vets' PTSD after the wars, just because everyone was going through shit at the time doesn't mean you can just ignore the people who went through the worst.
@Penguinmanereikel15 күн бұрын
I mean, the line is technically correct, but yes, very dismissive. I guess it's to add to how the society views death as frivolous.

I mean it takes place in the 50s, and the Zombie War was like in the 30s. Zombie media didn't exist yet.

@@leecoffill8425 that's a logical reason why most zombie movies the reason it gets so bad is because people never heard of a zombie if one happened in our reality if it's the walking dead type it would be finished before a week at least in the United States where firearms are common and we have a smart military unlike those in the movies
@caldw61526 күн бұрын
The modern zombie concept of being a slow walking flesh eating corpse that you need to destroy the brain to kill didn't enter modern media until the 1960's. George A Romero's Night of the Living Dead popularised the more "modern" concept of zombies that differ from the more Voodoo inspired ones. So yeah a story set in the 1950's would be pre-Remero style zombies meaning the brain vulnerability or virus spreading aspect from those types wouldn't be in the public consciousness.

Fun fact until the Hart Cellar act was enacted in 1965, we had firearm training classes in school. Live ammo, guns taken to school all the time. Then, we stopped being homogenous. The only thing differnt about the shooting the vlass in the movie, is the addition of rhe "zombie" targets. However I would wager that during halloween more than one class IRL leaned into the zombie thing.

i'm generally completely against zombies "learning" or whatever, even if the guy who created them said it's a thing that can happen. i still absolutely love day of the dead (probably my favorite of the series), but the bub stuff doesn't do it for me. with that said, it works in this movie because they've went out of their way to explain it with "we used science to do science things!" as the reason. it's not just zombies learning (though that's definitely what happens with fido). the 1950s-ness of the movie also gives it a huge bump for me. not just in the setting but they way they do things in the movie. also wanna add the company was right. if everyone did just follow the rules, everything would have been fine. people NOT following the rules is what caused all the problems and death!

This is one of the movies that's occasionally free on KZbin and it looked weird enough that I decided to watch it a year or two ago. This video is a pretty good summary, and I love this channel, but the constant comments on "underage person and adult person" is just SO cringey, people are fucking obsessed with pedophilia these days more than the pedophiles themselves are. The whole joke is that Theopolis has a teenage zombie-wife and it's allowed because she's a zombie. That's the point. You don't need to bring it up every time she's onscreen. But then talking about other scenes that had _no mention of or relation to pedophilia at all_ as if they were weird just makes it seem like *you* have that on your mind way too much, dude.
