Hi Serge, Thanks for your latest vid ( love the scandi noir edits ). I've got a couple of Questions for you ,if you don't mind. Where do you get your large bottles of dye from ? I'm in the UK and I'm finding it not so easy. And the little bottles you have with the yellow lid and little hole , I've never seen a Fiebings bottle like that , can they be purchased ? As a small video request , could you give some practical info on dye storage , dauber storage i.e. Do you use daubers over and over ? Generally keeping the dye and applicators ready to be used again. Thanks , Mark

You might find most answers in the first episode ;) kzbin.info/www/bejne/fqurYax6nZyIfJI The lids aren't the originals but some I found to replace the child proof lids I seem to be incapable to open. Not sure about supply lines in the UK though. When I started I had them from J.T. Batchelors Ltd. in London even the big size bottles.

Great Video. Do you know of any Pro Dye mixing charts as a starting point. I would like to make a dark blue or Navy, but not sure where to go from the Royal Blue. Thanks!
@SergeVolken2 жыл бұрын
Sorry, but no. I haven't seen mixing charts as such. This is easy to explain because depending on the leather that comes in a large variety of tanning mixtures and top finishes there is simply no consistent way to have the color mixes universally valid. I guess there is no other way around than to make your own mixing charts with the leathers you are used to work with. :/

The problem is the lack of white outside the Acrylic Dye range - can we add some sort of white pigment to Pro Dye and such?
@SergeVolken9 ай бұрын
Water based acrylic doesn't mix with alcohol based dye for one.

I asked about adding white pigment to a solvent, not mixing Acrylic Dyes with solven based dyes. @@SergeVolken

@glacialimpala sorry, but haven't heard of such thing. I've just never seen white inks and dyes that weren't covering like paint does.

for alcohol based dye ive used isopropyl alcohol to reduce the dye like 50/50 and it honestly opens up the color a lot and makes it noticeably more bright

Hello, I have a question. I just start to work with leather and I try to buy only the most necessary things. I need green color but I have Leather Dye dark Blue and I want to bye yellow one. But I found only Leather Dye buckskin & Pro Oil Dye yellow. Can I mix Leather Dye with Pro Oil Dye? Or I can get green mixing dark blue with buckskin? Or wil it be better to bye Yellow and Blue Pro Oil Dye? Thank you for helping :)
@SergeVolken6 жыл бұрын
As I mention in the video, mixing Oil/Pro dye with leather dye is at your own risk. Blue is very intense so a few droplets are plenty if mixed with yellow. As to Buckskin it might be close enough to yellow but it's up to you to try if it works for you. Looking at the Fiebing's dye chart though there is yellow be it in Dyes or Pro dye.

Is it possible to mix black leather dye with another color to get a dark grey?
@SergeVolken3 жыл бұрын
One way to find out is to try, but I would suggest you thin down Balck with thinner to get grey tones. Obviously adding a tiny tiny drop to any dye will darken it, but best is to try very carefully
