Thank you. That was the plan, I wanted to build it up like one of these cheap TV series, hence the ongoing tooth brush mystery :D I had the best teachers for making video tutorials, that is those looong endless soporific talks with not much to see and so little action. So I am grateful to my teachers and I appreciate your comment. It means that I am doing something if not right at least not totally wrong ;)

Hi Serge, I love how you're showing the real applications and differences in application - I've watched a hundred leathercraft videos learning over the last few years, but nobody has given this depth and value of informatiom! Thank you SO much!

Thank you. I started binge-watching online tutorials to the point where I almost wanted to jump out of the window out of pure boredom. ;) Thanks to those clips I knew what I didn't want to do. Plus I was a teacher for teenagers for nearly a decade, they were my best incentive to develop my methods.

Serge, you are great! You cover so much detail with an extremely interesting style. I love the appearances of your Film Noir alter ego! You have a follower in Oklahoma, USA.

The film noir appearance was just meant as a joke in the pilot clip, but this alter ego grew on me and I'll make sure to keep him ranting and being a wise ass in future episodes.

oh I loved your video and thanks for all the info shared! glad that I wasn't doing it wrong it just that I never buffed the leather after the dye with a cloth, I just went straight from dyeing to finish application no buffing between smh :) BIG THANKS
@SergeVolken
@SergeVolken 5 жыл бұрын
buffing does two things: it pushes some of the pigment in the surface into the still humid leather AND it removes some of the excess.
@panzerfausst
@panzerfausst 5 жыл бұрын
@@SergeVolken yes I see... then is no necessary to apply a finishing coat or leather sheen if you get so shiny results just with buffing ?
@SergeVolken
@SergeVolken 5 жыл бұрын
it all depends of the use of the object. Pocket items and things worn on clothing better be sealed, things destined to sit on a table or hanging on the wall can do without.

Great work. Your videos are excellent. You use double sided tape to hold the leather while you stain it. What kind of material is the base to which you tape it and do you also tape it down when tooling the leather?
@SergeVolken
@SergeVolken 6 жыл бұрын
I tape my leather on a dense heavy cardboard, I think in the US they call it art board for carving, this way my leather stays flat and even small pieces won't slip around during that process. Then since they already are taped down I can color and dye the leather leaving the flesh side clean. You can see a whole procedure on my playlist Organic design.

Okay you are the best ever for leather I learned so much from you! I have a really hard question, I can't get oil dye where I work overseas, and its actually impossible to bring oil dye here. can you recommend a water-based stain? I would really value your advice
@SergeVolken
@SergeVolken 6 жыл бұрын
True you can't get flammables overseas directly from Fiebing or other overseas suppliers but there are quite a few local Leather craft suppliers and outlets where you can get any Fiebing product. In what part of the world are you located?
@jab3562

Serge Volken gosh there isn't anything here in qatar:(
@SergeVolken
@SergeVolken 6 жыл бұрын
OH! I see the problem. So Alcohol based dyes are out of the question ;) In that case you are right to opt for water based dyes due to safety regulations of flammable material by air. You should be able to order Fiebing's water based leather colors, if not directly in the USA then at least via European distributorsa www.fiebing.com/shop/?c=34209/LeatherColorsWaterBased Also antique finishes are water based www.fiebing.com/shop/?item=42786 Finally any acrylic paint could do the job when thinned down and used like aquarelle.

Have also a look at the ECO color program by Tandy (all water based) I have played with it a bit but reverted to Fiebing's, as I said one always returns to his first love ;)

Serge Volken thanks so much for your advice, I know that water based dyei sn't really like true dye. Again thank you so much for your videos they are extremely educational, in a fun way.

I tried out blueberry. Fresh from the forest. To my surprise... it did not work for colouring leather!
@SergeVolken

Not as easy with natural dye stuff, main problem ist to fix the colors. In textile for example it involves hours of boiling for some natural dyes, can't be done with leather.
