I know this is an older video, but thanks for making it. Reading rules is one thing, but seeing the game actually played helps a lot. Unfortunately nobody I know likes these kind of games.....so I am stuck with solo options. Thanks for helping me out to understand the game better.

Thank you for this great and inspiring playthrough! One hint: For your battle of Arras you could have chosen an intel BP to maybe get rid of the reinforcements before the battle. And for the Resupply check at ca. 21:21 one unit in Reims did not move.

Hi Leer Leer and thank you for the kind comments. I've played through this a couple of times now and I'm getting a 'feel' for it. Unfortunately, Tony's Board Life (who also did an unsuccessful playthrough) and myself have since been constantly 'ribbed' about it by idjester (all in good fun, of course)!

Pushed them back, but alas, not enough time. As always, good play through

Thanks for rhe playthrough. It show me how bad things can go. It inspired me to do some "rommeling" and try this scenario again. It was the best game until now with a great showdown at Cherbourg! After the second round of battle both sides were wiped out and the area empty. By the way threre was now no allied unit left on the board at this time. I was thinking if this was now a german victory. But the town was still under allied control. The 31th Panzer was in the next area but had used all three movement points and there were also no supplypoint left. It couldn´t happen an other way but the allied got a "go" and a hord of units came in.... Don´t play this game - it could make you crazy! Cheers Kalle

Hi Kalle - yes this particular campaign is hard! (Great AAR by the way). :)

You have me going back to the IOS app of this game and giving this a go again....just as difficult as the board game but nice that it does all of the bookkeeping and Allied play....

Hi JPFalcononor, hope you have better luck than me! Thanks for the comment :)

what’s the name of the app? Cannot find any with search for rommel or field commander. or any country restriction on it?

Im curious why allied units have move if they only ever move one space. That got me thinking that 2 supply would get the 15th+toten to calais, the 31st to paris. Then next turn your forward group to Le Harve with an exploit to Caen and you only have one place left (although I think the Go is going to defeat you there). Make me understand why calais and lille are important if you can buy units into that space to save having to move them all the way from the back. I am kind of curious how the game would have gone if you had moved the allied forces towards the axis occupied targets now. That and the blood bath that the 'go' would have caused. hehe. Thanks for the playthrough

Hi The DG and thank you for your comment. It's entirely up to you of course but I love DVG games!

At 23:15, I think you made a mistake implementing the "Objective, Objective (-1 Supply)" order for the Allies. Apart from moving the wrong way, which you already pointed out, you also only moved each Allied Force one area. They're meant to each move two areas (because the word Objective appears twice) and each spend one supply (because of the -1 Supply in brackets). So not only would this have made the Allies less concentrated, it would also have drained their supplies quite a bit.

Thanks Andrew for commenting (yes I make mistakes!) but glad you took the time to highlight them as it will help me in future games and anybody else who might want to give it a go. :)

@@RoughSwordsmanWargamer oh yeah, that's the only reason I point out stuff like this, it's not to make you feel bad! :-)

Objective wants the Allied Forces to go towards objectives _not_ held by the Allies. So Cherbourg should have been out of the running, while Arras and Cambrai would have been the closest for all 4 units in the Western region. Them attacking you may have given you a chance to win this, though that first turn was also a killer. I find the North Africa and D-Day campaigns to be much more fun so hopefully you will have a better time with them.

Hi John and thank you for the comment. Yes, you're right - now I've got a feel for the game, I'll use different tactics for this campaign! :)

So what we learned form this is that you shouldn't be in charge of any German units... no German Submarines, and now no German land units... best to stick with playing the Brits where you have a small chance of winning....LOL

Thanks IDJ! I'll shall probably be playing Germans and Italians against the Commonwealth in North Africa next - so anything might happen!! ;)
