The idea is to be ready for emergency. I live in south Florida! One of the things here are Hurricanes! Working from home on batteries is what I have been working at for when I need talk during and after a Hurricane! Florida has a supper SARNET! WX4NHC (National Hurricane Center) is on there. And unless it is a really bad storm the SARNET makes things easy. But if we get a Cat5, that takes out most of the tower I have have found ways to get out on easy to put together antennas. VHF & UHF is easy, a VHF,UHF magnet mount antana on a file cabinet works for short range around town. I have Lifepo4 batteries and 5550 generator and not talking about my gas.
