Interesting, I am not a hunter, I do fish, yet this is entirely different. This was actually my first view of seeing a field dress (don't laugh). I figured I would start to explore on how to do such things or what I would be getting myself into when the need does arise. It was not as bad as I thought, perhaps if I watch a few more, and then go with someone who is dressing, it will be no big deal and I would be totally desensitized to it all. Thanks for sharing.

I suggest you look into buying a rifle of you don't have one. Start with a 22 to get a feel for shooting, it will not kill a deer, then gat a 270 or a 30 yacht 6. I am 13 and went hunting about a week ago, when you see a deer and aim at it you get pumped. It is an amazing feeling to go out and get your own meat not store bought!

I have a "30 yacht six" and love it. It is a semi auto made in the 70's and is a great caliber for many animals front a medium size hog to a mule deer. Doesn't kick too bad either.

I don't believe in killing an animal, just to do it. that being said if things went south in the world,this is a skill to have. our ancestors often lived this way. If you're not a vegetarian that is. I have never been hunting a day in my life. Have ate deer though and it's pretty good. The last Thanksgiving I had with my grandfather,we ate a turkey he hunted.very informative.

Different technique. The way my uncle does it we go from butthole to esophagus and then pull it all down. If it was a bigger deer would you saw the pelvis and rib cage? Slightly less messy when the ribcage is cut. You should try the buttout tool. Still not a fun process but cuts the time in half when working that spot.

Hey, I did enjoy this, you did a very good job, one question though. Why didn't you just break open the sternum?, you obviously weren't saving it for a mount and that would've made getting the diaphragm and everything behind it way easier. Just wondering, but very good video, very informative.

Nice video, we usually hang the deer upside down then do that, unless hopefully it snows, then use the snow as water to keep the deer clean, but you are %10000 on the do not try to cut or puncture the bladder or shit bag lol, or you will have one hell of a mess then you better hurry up and field dress faster than that so you don't ruin the meat, but yeah nice video

Thank you for sharing reasonably good advice.Certainly much better advice that those videos that show how to best contaminate the meat. However, I do have some suggestions: Wear a hand glove on top of the Cow OB-GYN gloves. When you free the anus and rectum, invert the hand glove over the anus to seal it completely at the very end, tie it off however you prefer, but be sure to remove all plastic from the woods, you need to protect the beasts that will eat the carrion. When you free up the trachea and the esophagus, tie off the esophagus by peeling it off the trachea and tying it in a knot.

Why gut a deer when you can quarter it and pack it out while avoiding the innards? Do you guys have a truck or something nearby? Just curious as I am a new hunter. :-)
@KFieLdGaming
@KFieLdGaming 8 жыл бұрын
There are ways of field dressing without gutting, but in reality it's quite simple to gut a deer. This video makes the process seem longer because there's editing cuts, and explanation of the process. In reality it takes a couple minutes if you know what you're doing. Me personally, I don't slice open the neck and detach the wind pipe from that end. When I'm reaching my hands up the cavity to cut the diaphragm to release the vitals, that's when I cut the wind pipe as far up as I can reach, and I literally use it to pull everything out with one strong tug. I don't even do any cutting above the sternum at all in fact. Also, you have to open the deer's cavity up to get at the fillets(back straps), which are the choicest cut on the animal. They lay parallel along the deer's spine, one on each side. But I don't get those out in the woods. Once I have the animal home, and hung up with the cavity spread open(via a piece of wood usually), I go in and cut them out, throw them into a zip lock bag, and into the fridge as they get eaten the next day usually. Once you've gut a deer the first time, it's easy and very repeatable after that. Like riding a bike. The only tricky part is making sure you don't cut yourself when your hands are up inside the cavity and you're doing everything by feel, not by sight. And also making sure you don't slice the intestines or stomach. Other than that, it's pretty simple. Just kinda work your way around. Once the organs are free, they all just kinda fall out.
