My Dad was a 30 year Officer in The USAF with 21 of those service years as a Pilot. He was a huge Historian of other Nation's and especially of their Military. He often said that Marshall was the equivalent of General Patton on the battlefield. Dad always believed IF Rommel had been able to serve under anyone else but Hitler, the outcome of WW2 "might" have been different, at least from the African Continent War perspective. Rommel many times showed his humanistic qualities as a Solider and Leader to his men and colleagues. Brilliant Story Mr. Skinner and as always I appreciate your time, effort and story telling that you share lovingly with your Fan Base! Proud To Ride In The Jerry Skinner Posse! Cheers From Ohio

Wonderful job on this biography of Erwin Rommel, Jerry. Quite a departure for you, as most of us are familiar with your movie star bios---but did not know you "know your stuff" about Field Marshal Rommel. As you pointed out, Rommel was apolitical. He was never a Nazi. He's the one Germany general from World War II for whom I have great respect. Thank you very much for this exceptional review of this fine German general of World War II.

Rommel loved his Fatherland and his wife and his family. He was deceived from the incompetent Hitler who drove the Reich into the ground.
@timepoet772 жыл бұрын
I see Erwin Rommel as a conflicted and almost troubled man. Yes, he had a brilliant military mind but his own integrity in the midst of WWII certainly didn't endear him with his superiors. However, his devotion to his men even as he knew the German cause in the war was going to be lost made him revered by those who entered his circle. Patton, Churchill, and Montgomery deeply respected him as a soldier and as a man.

No! I disagree with some of your blanket statements; it’s more like Rommel along with other honorable Germans who were white frequently from upper class circles didn’t like Hitler. I have an older friend from Clifton TN last name Patrick whose father (probably born in 1900) met Rommel there at the Clifton hotel on the Tennessee river prior to ww2). He was in the area studying the tactics of Nathan Bedford Forest. He was quoted as saying a “man who could do with tanks what Forest did with mounted cavalry” and I don’t remember the rest of the quote!

Nearly every union General was Catholic.., one CAN NOT study any history with out finding Jesuits.. 1534... financed by London gold.. establishment September 28..1540 by Pope Paul 3th... forget about un agenda 21..,20-30... it’s the 500 year mark of the most awesome military organization in all history 1540 to 2040... Jerry, beside being a great researcher, you truly bring history alive for your subscribers/fans. During WW2 my father worked on British merchant marine convoys supplying war materials to England. During 2 separate trips the ships were torpedoed by German submarines. He and some of his other comrades were picked up from their life raft by another ship (twice). After escaping death 2 times this way, father decided to jump ship in New York. However by coercion from the US government he was inducted into the US Army April 1943. Father served in Al Levy's unit the 288th (Chinese regiment) Field Artillery Observation Battalion under General Patton. When father passed away we found his medals and some paperworks... He lived what we understand now was PTSD until the day he died. He must have witness some horrific nightmares. You being a top notch historian, could you tell us about the plight of unit 288th during WW2 alive for my family. That way we can understand what our father and the men in Al Levy - 288th went through. Thank you!!!

Having had family in the SS, who served as an officer, and was tried and hung in Nuremberg for his crimes, this topic is always a delicate one to breach. I didn’t know this either. But it doesn’t surprise me. The American Civil War was studied closely in Europe and the UK. Officers such as Lee, Stuart, Jackson - even soldiers such as the partisan Turner Ashby were familiar names there. Jackson was revered here in the US but even more so across the pond. So it follows that such a brilliant tactician as Forrest would be well-known to such a student as Rommel.
