Amen! Personally I believe that every cycle Greenway built on former railways lines should at least have some form of parallel rail system, narrow gauge preferably. Not just for steam preservation skills but also for the added practically of moving heavy materials efficiently and safely. But Parish Pump Politics in councils dictates that paving tarmac and jobs for the boys is more sacred than water itself

2:48 I daresay for moving people between places you'd want to go with proper narrow gauge track and rolling stock though. Stock from old working railways could be found relatively cheaply for that cause. Though you'd still have the pain in the bum of getting planning permission for a line.

You live in a massive property but can't afford this? Really? Why not use a solar electric golf cart? That's what we use on our farm. It makes no sense to build a railroad that only allows you to move across tracks. A solar golf cart goes anywhere, requires no infrastructure, charges from the sun, and can lift a ton.
@Hebdomad76 күн бұрын
Ireland is often cloudy, wet and muddy. A golf kart is likely to get bogged. A solar one will struggle to get the power in winter. Also just because they own land. Doesn't mean they've got spare cash on hand for a project like this. A battery electric powdered narrow gauge railway is a more viable business proposition. But another thing to remember, this is the work of an eccentric tinkerer. Expect some artistic eccentricity.
@thaliahelene6 күн бұрын
Golf carts won’t haul multiple wheelbarrow loads of dung at once, nor are they efficient at moving massive loads of wood into drying sheds or over to the charcoal works. Even though Tim and friends do ride the railroad on occasion, its point is to move large repetitive freight loads across the property, not for personal transportation.

Yes, we are very lucky to have our 12 acres, but we have a large mortgage to go with it!
