Thank you Clive for that wonderful history lesson, I hadn't realized just how big an area those pillar and stall workings covered It's mind-boggling the work carried out with picks and shovels under there

Another great video. We've taken to piping KZbin through the TV on a Saturday night and your video's are a favourite 👍. Much more enjoyable than standard TV.

Thanks for your encouragement. I will have a look into what those remains are at GT Harwood...long time since I've been, we used to camp at Bowley when I was in the scouts

@@rossendalecollieries7995 if you walk on the footpath to the railway viaduct the remains are on your left hand side about half a mile before the bridge..

I dont think blenkinsop was mechanized before Budge bought it. I know they had a roadheader when it shut because it ended up at Hatfield, which Budge had recently purchased.

I have a photo of my uncle Jack Morton and two miners underground, when he was manager at Blenkinsopp in 1975 after he left the NCB. I can email to you if you wish.

Those wheels on the Blenkinsop plan were probably unpowered "jig wheels", with the coal worked to the raise, from what you guessed to be the haulage level.

Yeh your probably right...self acting incline ir justs a brake. Those things weren't introduced into Lancashire untill 1860's. On the plan of the George pit, near the Gairs there is a horse wheel underground and I think that will predate Bkenkinsopp
