Hi Matt, I've watched a lot of your great videos, most of which are in the workshop/shack where you are describing/reviewing/building different technologies/experiments/equipment... It's really nice to see this more casual out and about portable content, where you're meeting other Ops and having fun (or "the craic") as we would say! 😁 Love the channel and am learning from it all the time. 👌 De EI5IMB (Dave).

Wow, I'm surprised at how well the G106 has been performing! I bought one myself after the (in)famous negative test by a prominent Tuber, but still have to test it in anger. It seems that I made the right decision to buy it. Simple, but excellent value from what I can hear in this clip. Thanks for a great video, Mat!

I think it’s a great little rig Jan, no frills but solidly built with a decent scope. I’ll do a more detailed review on it soon. I havnt seen any other video apart from MLS where they test it on an analyser and sig gen, performed well for the size. Cheers

Man, it looked so pleasant out there. ARRL Field Day last June was a decent day for propagation but hell on our stamina where my local club set up. The high temp reached 103 F (~39 C) and the last of us bailed out by 5pm from exhaustion. Someone tell me again just WHY we USA-ians have our Field Day in June?

No worry, there is a winter one as well. 🤣

Honestly for the price and "Quality" of the XIEGU G106 (seeing as multiple units have had greatly different quality between multiple youtubers, and it seems to be highly related to the closed source firmware as well.) it would be better to buy a Ubitx (which can put out 10watts and is fully opensource meaning better support and hack-ability.)
@Randrew2 жыл бұрын
"it would be better to buy a Ubitx" Dunno, man. Being a DIY junkie myself, I might well buy the $209 uBitx kit and put it together myself for fun. But a built uBitx V6 with the nicer display costs more than the G106 and still looks clunkier.
@kd9kck3762 жыл бұрын
@@Randrew Not sure how, since the Ubitx is only $209 (full kit) while th3 G106 is $319 plus you might end up with one that has issues due to the poor quality control.
@Randrew2 жыл бұрын
@@kd9kck376 Well, I went looking for pre-built uBitx V6 prices for comparison and they ranged from 300 to 350 - with the nicer display on the higher end. That's why I said *I* might go for the full kit, but I wouldn't expect everyone to who might like a G106 to be comfy with the number of components in the uBitx kit.
@techguy90232 жыл бұрын
@@Randrew the ubitx kit is plug together the parts-no soldering. Adding the Nextion display involves downloading software and plugging it in basically. Not an appliance but it's not stuffing a board and soldering components and winding lots of toroids. The basic kit might take 30 minutes.

Hi everyone. Enjoyed the video, it's good to play radios out in the countryside. I've a question for you - the black pipe type item on top ot the radio , is it just a piece of plumbing pipe ? If so what is the item description or part number please. It's a great idea to direct the sound from upfiring radio speakers . I need one for my Xiegu G90
@Randrew2 жыл бұрын
I noticed that too... it has a nice look to it. I made a sound director for my 7300 from paper-backed craft foam board. Glued some rubberized magnets along the bottom to hold it to the radio case.
@ianadamson73702 жыл бұрын
@@Randrew Sounds like a good idea to Andrew , your homemade item to reflect the speaker sound to the front of the radio
