The Botanist Patrick Blanc takes you to a field trip in the lowland Dipterocarp forests of Borneo, first in the sustainably logged forest of Deramakot where many species are thriving along the small river banks and then to the Sepilok forest, famous for Orangutans.

Thanks and bravo to Pascal for his film making, a long creative work. In some way, everything is easier for me since I study tropical forest shade loving plants since the mid seventies...

You might as well consider a hiking stick so you can walk safely and could easily clear your paths of small obstructions, this also prevents you from using your hands from directly or accidentally touching some unwanted things that could injure your fingers. Keep on posting these excellent content.

I don't like at all to have a stick to walk in the tropical forests. Same about the boots : I love to wear simple tissue shoes in order to have the direct contact with water, rocks, sand or mud. Of course, at the beginning, especially in the eighties and nineties, I have got most of the tropical diseases and parasites but, just as you can see, I am still alive... Thanks to watch and love our films.

Thank you for these videos. Have you considered a trip to Yakushima, Yanbaru or Ishigaki in Japan? There are some very biodiverse large regions of untouched sub tropical forest there.

I agree, Japan is very rich in forest species and we have been there many times, mostly in Southern Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu and Okinawa... And many times in Taiwan... We did not film. Filming and producing the result takes a long time... Probably we'll go quite soon to Yakushima.

Mon Dieu, votre belle Mandragore a disparu.

A bientôt, Amitiés à Pascal,@@creaturefree

Yes, we hope so. You can already see some films about African forest plants on our Creaturefree channel : 3 films about Tanzania, including the Eastern Arc mountains with many species similar to Congo species, 2 films on Malawi, also including forest species, 2 films on Ethiopia...

Sarcopyramis sp le melastomataceae iridescent peut être parvifolia
@creaturefree
@creaturefree Жыл бұрын
Probably not a Sarcopyramis but, just as I name it, the young stage of Sonerila maculata, a widespread species which is very variable about leaf colour and design. On this page you'll see the transition between the small iridescent stage close to the ground and the adult stage : www.verticalgardenpatrickblanc.com/inspiration/leaf-colors-and-structures-2?page=9 Sonerila has symmetry 3 in flowers and fruits while Sarcopyramis has symmetry 4. Moreover, many Sonerila species are blue iridescent, just as you can see some other Bornean species on this page : www.verticalgardenpatrickblanc.com/inspiration/leaf-colors-and-structures-2?page=7

hmm the orang is eating the bark or brushing it teeth , mystery ......
@creaturefree
@creaturefree 6 ай бұрын
Yes, he is sucking the sap and latex. It seems that this Artocarpus anisophyllus (Moraceae like Ficus) has important medicinal properties and this is probably why the orang utan is exfoliating the bark. Poor Artocarpus, maybe no longer alive, at least concerning its upper branches.
