17:50 old, but: the LOS in this game - with very few exceptions caused by smoke and similar - is alway repripocal. There's no such thing as being able to see a card without being seen from that card just because of being adjacent to otherwise blocking card's border. The rule is this: 1) unless smoke stuff happen, you always see into adjacent cards. 2) if there are any blocking borders on the line between you and an non-adjacent card - even if that border is adjacent to you - then there's no line of sight.
@maubunky19 ай бұрын
Thanks for pointing this out. As you said, Rule 5.2.1 says you can always see into adjacent cards, but to follow LOS into a second (Long Range) or third (Very Long Range) card, both the entry and exit points of the cards passed through must be white. And the reciprocal rule also applies...if they can see you, you can see them...and vice versa.

23:24 - I know it's been a year but as no one has mentioned this yet: You're supposed to use a deck from a different campaign for your staging area (start line). You'll want those four face-down cards for the game you're actually playing. :) (See rule 2.2.1 in 3rd ed, or 2.4.2 in 2nd ed rules) Thanks for this series, by the way. Love your channel!

Note, the FO has a radio which is on the ARTY FD network only. It cannot send/recv to the company HQ radios so orders to the FO must be visual/verbal or by General Initiative.

We start our Felds of Fire series with an Overview and Setup video. It will be Mission 1 of the Normandy campaign because that's what I'm most familiar with. However, various people have suggested doing a Korea campaign which is a brilliant idea. We will do that in the near future! Thank you for watching, please Like and Subscribe if you think the video is ok :)

Just bought this game (version 2). This video is a great help. By the way, the number of possible maps is not actually "infinite", but it's so big as to be practically impossible of repetition. 55 cards in a 3x3 layout: about 2.3 quadrillion maps (2.3#10^15). At 1 hour per game, that's 263 billion years of play...

Excellent video! It can serve as a quick refresher even for experienced FoF players like me… I will remember to watch it again when I start a new game after some time away from FoF. Trévières… since there are so many videos on this mission by English speakers, I dare give the following pronunciation hint, based on the one used for the address of the Harry’s Bar in Paris (“sank roo doe noo “). So: “tray-vee-air” should be more like the actual name of the town.

Can never have enough playthroughs for this game. I think at 17.51 you have LOS in column two incorrect. An enemy unit in the bocage at the top of the board could not see into the woods at the bottom. For that to happen BOTH borders on the middle bocage card would need to be white. See rulebook 5.2.1. Thanks for doing this and looking forward to the rest of the series.
@soloboardgaming3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Carl, I've now seen that and it'll be corrected as we go forward. And I'm glad that you'll be checking in again, that's brilliant! :)

Great job! I like your conversational style and enthusiasm for the game. You really make it sound easy, which is definitely the way to approach it. It is my understanding that FoF at it’s core is not complicated at all, but it takes some work by the player to get there.

I'm late to the party and catching but I wholeheartedly agree with those who say you should do a playthrough. Regardless as to how many there already are, there's always something that can be gathered because of how you'll present something. You may connect something for someone just because of how you present it. The Grass Crown arrives for me tomorrow. I'm looking forward to checking that out. But I have had the Fields of FIre itch also. Too many new games I want to get to first though.

I still have mixed feelings towards this game - and it's not really due to it's apparent complexity, but actually due to scope (I'm not too keen to pay for Korea and Vietnam as I'm really only interested in WW2) and card resolution (much prefer to roll my dice). Yet I keep coming back to vids with it - there's no other game like this one :)
@soloboardgaming3 жыл бұрын
Personally I think there's a lifetime of play in just the WW2 campaign and that's my favourite too :) But I share your love for dice, I'm happiest when I'm rolling :)
