This is without doubt the clearest most informative tutorial I have seen for this game. I have picked up more from your work than multiple re reads of the rulebook... Tho that could just be me😂 looking forward to next installment 👍

Fields of Fire is a difficult game. You are helping me a lot, yours is the only Playthrough on KZbin that I can follow well. I understand well when you speak (I am Italian, I know English quite well), we perceive the passion you put and the fun you feel while you play it also transmitted to those who look, and doesn't happen often! You are really nice, keeping us to play with you! :D

At 16:40, after drawing the Reshuffle card, you seem to have continued and drawn another card without reshuffling first(!). Edit: I'm in error here. "If you encounter the reshuffle card, finish drawing the cards and then reshuffle all the cards, including the reshuffle card." [3rd edition 2.2.3]
@soloboardgaming2 жыл бұрын
Sure, I do normally continue current draw before reshuffle. Just my preference and too minor to worry about 😊

Like the way you superimposed the contemporary photos on your units (and the Germans) as you briefed their situations. Gives it a nice flavour.

At 27:03, if you'd been thinking when the Germans didn't get the "concentrate" reticule on the two card draw you would have said "dodged a bullet there..." because literally you would have. I'm here all day...

At 23:37, you read the word "Auto" from the "Leader on Card" column, which wasn't applicable for that card (which had only an HMG team and a squad). So the HMG team should have attempted to self-rally via a two-card draw (since Pinned units retain their original experience level, which is Line for the Germans in this scenario).

Lot's happening in our game as usual. Often leads to me getting excited and missing things! Usually I catch them and note it during the edit. But I missed a few small details on our Village card, so please forgive me. It doesn't stop the enjoyment or the action! 😊
@billyriley4922 жыл бұрын
It does not at all stop the enjoyment. Honestly, I doubt the designers would be able to play this game "error free". It's that game were as you pointed out before - there's so many little fringe rules. But play, play, play and they eventually stick more often than not. As you said before - you always seem to be learning this game. But it is well worth the journey.

This was a great watch, very nice tight action pack despite the low count of actions you kept the momentum going. I particularly liked the priority sequence for enemy action, the map being dynamic and your assault team coming upon that patrol. Such a vivid action sequence story. Brilliant mate, thanks for making these !

I would advise against Vol 2 as its so much more complicated then Vol 1. its best to play Vol 1first. There is a new revision of the rules coming out soon as well so i would hold back until then.

I'm grateful to have you along Hybban, thanks for your support! FoF is one of those games you can't get perfectly right all of the time. Just concentrate on the core gameplay and you'll get there. I hope you eventually take the plunge! 😊
@thearno28852 жыл бұрын
It’s easier housekeeping if you remove the pinned markers straight away when a miss is drawn. You then adjust the VOF at the end of combat using the current board state. Otherwise you might forget that the pinned was created the previous round and think it was added the current round. This makes it easier for larger engagements.
@soloboardgaming2 жыл бұрын
Hi Arno, yes I think I agree with you. Its so easy to overlook things in this game!
@Hakucho642 жыл бұрын
At 9:28, when you moved those two units forward into the village, don't forget that because there's a VOF on that card, you can attempt to infiltrate instead of moving, and if successful, you avoid getting the Exposed marker (which you should have put on them when you did a regular move, I know you know that).
@soloboardgaming2 жыл бұрын
Ah, didn't think of that one, darn it!
@TheBlueTweezers3 жыл бұрын
Good Stuff. Couple of things: You could have had your units moving into the village infiltrate to avoid the exposed. When your unit found cover in the woods in column 2 and the village its only the unit itself that can use the cover and not the whole stack. The rest would have to be ordered to move into cover. Also when the HMG team got an activity check of rally, you didn't check if it actually rallied, you just took the marker off.
@soloboardgaming3 жыл бұрын
Always a great pleasure to see you here, thanks hugely for taking a look! Yes I did forget that moving into cover for those additional units required commands and I was so annoyed when I discovered it. The HMG Rally I mistakenly checked the 'Leader' column which was Auto, my bad. However, I'm hoping to keep up the main drive and excitement of the game for those who find it overly complex. Some of these things I will correct in the next video where it doesn't distract from the game. Grateful for your feedback, thank you 👍

@@soloboardgaming Does the Burst Marker on Terrain Cards affect any incoming VOF?

@@soloboardgaming is there a stacking limit for cover? Could the entire platoon fit?
@soloboardgaming3 жыл бұрын
@@blackmoreproductions3259 Hi Mark, great question. Yes, they are typically found on Woods terrain cards (for instance). It gives a further -1 to plunging fire. That is, mortar and artillery fire into the card. It shows the increased effect of plunging fire bursting in the trees and showering the area with tree shards. It does NOT affect any other type of fire from squad weapons (mg's and rifles for instance). I hope that helps. Meanwhile thank you very much for watching and for feeding back with a question, excellent! 😊👍
@soloboardgaming3 жыл бұрын
@@mx5007 There's no limit to the number of steps under a cover marker. However, the max steps on a single card is 16 steps. And having a ton of steps under a single cover marker can also be detrimental when taking fire. I hope that's answered your question ok :) Thanks for commenting! 👍

At 24:20, when the squad fell back, they should have been removed from play, rather than extending the map (9.4).

Loving your input. "Upon reaching the top row of cards, enemy units drawing Fall Back will move off the edge of the map. Do not extend the map, remove the unit from play." [3rd edition rules 8.6.3]

Hi! Thank you for the excellent playthrough. I have a question: at 13:33, you put the newly found cover marker on top of all the remaining units in the card. Shouldn't you put the cover marker only on the single unit who performed the action "Attempt to seek cover"? Thank you again from a new subscriber!
@soloboardgaming2 жыл бұрын
Hi there, thanks for your feedback and for your Sub which really appreciate! And yes sir, you're absolutely correct, it should have been on the single unit only! When rolling for the location of the patrol if you drew “per package placement “ do you have to draw again as the patrol squad doesn’t have a location specified on the package table?

12+minutes in. You say there’s no post moving a squad into the woods as the VOF won’t change but you will be able to remove the All Pinned VOF on the enemy position so you go from -2 to 0.
