if I were outfitting a new shooter with an entry level rifle with a nominal budget, I would advice them to get the savage axis over the other two. I have shot all three, I have hunted with all three. the XPR is the newer rifle which is basically a browning a-bolt 3 underneath and offers a better quality of materials used and a better finish among the three and if you can afford it, get the XPR because it is a bit more than the axis. the savage axis looks like it may have been designed in ussr with its odd shape but I ended up shooting two whitetails back to back and it handled superberly in the field, so it is very practical. personally, I would get the axis, take off that cheap scope and get a better scope because package scopes are crap, believe me. you wont regret it.

Another great show Charlie,..thanks to all concerned. Mark's choice of a rifle in this cost range, matches mine. Most enjoyable half hour plus video!

Very good! I think you handled the anti segment very well. It was informative instead of just shit slinging. It’s a shame it probably won’t come across any Antis

First I'd like to say, I very much enjoy the show. However, I'd like to point out an error in the rifle review. There is no way the Savage XP with the package scope is $750 (pounds). MSRP on the rifle in that caliber is $484 (US dollars) with a Bushnell Banner scope. There was some mention of the scope on the savage being upgraded (not the factory provided scope?). If that's the case, all the rifles should have the extra cost added to the base price. Gunbroker price on Axis XP 243 is currently $300 US.

Rifles and scopes are quite a lot more expensive in the UK :(
@danhill63335 жыл бұрын
@@fieldsportstv well given that everything shown is an import, that is understandable. All of the rifles should be in the same price range as they are all entry level and priced about the same in the states. Historically savage has been considered the "cheapest" of the three. I own two of the model 110 savages (the level above the axis) and they are for the money the best accuracy you can get. Of course that's in my opinion. And we all know what opinions are like. 😉 Hope as time permits I get the opportunity to meet with some of you fine folks.

The difference between the pricing in the U.K. and the U.S. is just astonishing. The Savage here(Michigan, U.S), with the same weaver scope is sold as a combination for $450, and that is the Axis II with the Accu-Trigger. If the conversion app I used is correct...in the U.K, that rifle is over $1000 U.S.! I can buy a Tica T3 with a Leupold or Nikon Scope here, or a Remington 700 with a similar scope and still be well under that number. Both the Remington 783 and Winchester are selling here for about $300 U.S., again...a rather noticeable difference.

I want to be clear, this comment was in no way intended as a dig at you over there...I honestly feel for you! I'm assuming the difference has to do with VAT's and such.

You guys get so screwed by your own government. I know its a tax issue. And they don't really trust you with firearms so what else is there to say about it. Here in the States we just take it all for granted, because our Founders made sure we would be armed. On the other hand, you are doing a 30min plus program now! You have grown and suceeded quite a bit over the last few years.
@graziofarrugia6 жыл бұрын
I do not know exactly but here in Malta an EU member country those rifles most probably will cost even more than the UK price. Our governments have applied a 300% present tax on every hunting items. Always keep in mind that here no one is allowed to hunt with a rifle but only can be used for target shooting. Last year I bought an air gun Evanix Avalanche Cal. .25 and I had to pay 2500 euro just for the air gun then another 500 euro for the Konus scope 10X40X52. at least I am allowed to use the air gun for hunting rabbits but not lamping. It is an issue of Taxation and vat.

Too bad the churchill test is made on the newbie stands. With clays you can break with the butt of the gun by waving it around. I understand it's sponsored content, but my wife (5"1) shoots a Guerini Syren (non lightweight) and shoots 34g #3's at ducks with it. That's my 'reference' for a 'shorter person' gun...

Definitely feel the shoulder after the day obviously, but in the excitement she's doing just fine! Also, I've tried a few and the RC3 steel we use are 'surprisingly' 'soft' for that sort of shells.
