FIERO GETS A V8...Another quick build then we take it for a rip!

Ther Fiero episode is another quick build while we wait for parts on the MK4 SUPRA project! After sitting for nearly 10+ years the fiero (Matt's first car) is given the treatment she needs, a heart transplant. We install a 425hp SBC into the Fiero. Matt made everything last year for it, so it's just a matter of getting everything together and installed!

I believe I would have went with a Toronado transaxle, something built was enough guts to handle a V8 Chevrolet

I’m in the process of finishing up a 3800 sc in my 87 GT it’s been a long process. The getrag 5 speed has always made me nervous. But seeing you guys put a built v8 in there makes me feel better. If anyone is looking to do this swap and it’s your first time, be prepared for a journey. Someone commented they make it look easy. That is an understatement. Thanks guys enjoyed the video.

Awesome! I can tell that your rear springs need to be beefed up because your front end is too light to keep proper camber.... not safe for good braking and already bad understeer these cars have.. (although that part is much better on the '88s for sure). Good luck finishing it up nice... I'll be watching the fun!

I always appreciate swapping a v8 into a small car getting all of the gauges to work can be a chore, especially stock gauges. My swap is a v8 in a 84 datsun s12 getting the original digital gauges to work took time. But I did get them all to work correctly. I dont know if you have a hydraulic or a cable style clutch. I went hydraulic in mine, works well

I actually had one but you need a different flywheel plus I got this motor for free so just used it.

Question: does the transaxle have the BOP bolt pattern or ??? What sized clutch and flywheel did it come with.???

@Bob Konradi no it has the gm 60 degree by Bell housing. I think fieros come with a 9" clutch, not sure about the flywheel?

i wonder if it pushes the front tires. I always though a 3.8 would be a good motor for one of those. One of the GTP supercharged models🤔

Yeah a lot of people go that route with a lot of success! It doesn't push the front tires anymore than it did before or any other mid engine car.

Ya that's what I always wanted to build my first car a fiero and my favorite engine a built SC 3.8L stock is already double the HP the 2.8l v6 they put in those cars and with some decent upgrades can push over 400hp

@Cliff Borgman I used a Spintech muffler but I cut the stock ends off and put a 3" inlet and outlets, on it. West Coast Fiero sells them.

No we used an adapter plate to mate it.

So what had to be done to swap a sbc in? GM A-bodies from the 80s have a similar subframe and I want to swap in and Olds 307 or 350

@Boxcar The Husky I'm not too familiar with the olds 307 and 350 but if they're the same as Chevy, then you just need the things we showed in the video, adapter, pulley, headers, etf

Oh, as the guy was telling the story about losing his license, his boy in the background laughed at him. That was cold. The clutch problem can be resolved from Spec clutches fading. There is an option of swaping a more natural ls4, The ls4 can use a more natural front wheel drive set up, and fuel injection as well. the LS4 just needs to be uncapped from it's poorly intake and exhaust manifold, and have a better cam installed in it. The Holley efi terminatorx engine management system can be used to control it.

Some people do that but it's an auto, mounts the engine longitudinal, and requires a lot of cutting. It's gonna stay a manual and I don't wanna cut into the cab that much.

@Ben Corder I bought a front engine plate from Street Dreams by Ross..it's solid mounted. It has a piece of angle you weld to your subframe.
