These are nice, casual vids that I enjoy hearing your chatter on topics. Seeing what other neighborhoods are doing, hove yet to do, could/should do, etc. Thank you for making the time to do these!

Nice to see other countries' infrastructure. Even your bad roads don't look too bad compared to some I've seen.

It's the "everything bigger" version of a walking video I guess. It's easy to see a ot of things walking in Tokyo, in Carmel you would need to run a marathon ;) So bike is ok.

Have you thought about streaming instead of videos? You could talk to the chat. Anyway love your videos from Europe, it's so interesting for me to explore American towns :) cheers

There's too much added tech and cost associated with that unfortunately. It would be fun though.

My guess for the 4 lanes by the school is that, like most educational institutions in this nanny state, parents insist on driving their children to and from school instead of allowing them to cycle. I assume this leads to one of the lanes backing up with parents, leaving the other lane free for other drivers just passing through.

Carmel needs more density like those row houses you went by after the roundabout. I see those single family detached homes with oversized lots and think about how much more walk-able and enjoyable it might be if there was much less of those. I can't believe that with your bubbly personality you haven't made any friends there yet!

I'd like to see more of Carmel infrastructure like with the library and high school. I'd like to see more parks and recreation areas and see how much they care about non vehicle traveling. Also any opinions on your public transportation?
@codex40482 жыл бұрын
Just looking at the new infrastructure being build it seems like someone in Carmel is pushing for actual proper infrastructure (which is easier for new development). While it's slow progress does seem to happen, and I'm sure it will pick up once more people get familiar with the impact of cycling/walking.

The suburb (if you can already call that this close to the center?) around 15 minutes looks nice enough if you only look at the green. Quite a bit like a park. But once you look at the houses and realize that is all front yard and huge amounts of space... it feels creepy. But at least I now understand how "mowing neighbors lawn" can be a real kid's income. No enough grass here to make that business model work. Also those streets! They are still not wide by American standards, but still... why so much waste? The new development looks a lot better. It's still low density but at least you coudl make it work if shops and schools are at the broder of it.

We are enjoying these. I relate so much to your frustrations. There are so many times that projects here miss the mark (usually because they’ve made concessions to not inconvenience drivers). Ir it’s like it’s done by people who don’t bike. In the village near my new house they put in a ‘bike n’ ride’ - first impression is good (it has charging for EBikes, covered bike parking & a repair stand) but the bike racks are the coat hanger style (don’t work for cargobikes) and are only accessible from one side (so not as many bikes can use it). It’s not secure and while it’s in the village, it’s not in a high traffic area, so you probably wouldn’t want to leave an expensive bike there all day. Its *so close* and done with good intentions (so I hate to be negative) but, Damn, I wish they had consulted with our regional bike advocacy organization. I’m hoping to make connections on council to reduce the chances of things like that in the future as they are starting to execute on their active transportation plan here. Anywho, this is my super long winded way of saying that your narrative is basically the voice inside my head when I encounter poorly executed bike infra here. Keep it up!

The guy driving the Camry in the roundy had to come back around just to make sure that he saw what he saw! (By that I mean the Urban Arrow.) 21:06 What in the world were those people taking photos of? There was nothing notable that I could see.

All my Dutch cargo bikes use a Widek Tribinder. Here's an example: hollandbikeshop.com/en-gb/bicycle-parts-city-bike/carrier-straps/triple-bungee-strap/widek-tribinder-28-blue-green-yellow-629582/

What gloves do you have? Really like how they are attached to the handle bars.
Enjoying the videos. Is central Carmel always that quiet? What is rush hour like? Where I live every road is car choked all day and a lot of the night.
@AmericanFietser2 жыл бұрын
I tend to only make these videos during quieter times of the day and that's reflected in the videos. Carmel turns into a car sewer twice per day.

I think there is an option on the go pro app to have a map display in the corner… I figured it out once but I couldn’t tell you how (and it was pretty small)
