@@Rabakd1639 No, he was not. Check World Cup 1982 Dream Team by Pele. There is Maradona. Socrates was brilliant, but it does not mean that Maradona was not good. Referees were nightmare, Maradona could not do more because of them stupid decision. Watch Argentina vs Belgium. Argentina vs Italy and Argentina vs Brazil. Referees were blind also in game Brazil vs Italy.

Worst defense and Goal Keeper of the tournament. A good team not only consist of forwards. Look at the second goal of Rossi. The brasilian defense acted like idiots.

Looking back on it, Brazil in 1982 were not really a team - only a brilliant midfield. In the match against Italy, Serginho and Eder were non-existent and their defence was cut apart nearly every time the Italians counter attacked and Tele Santana must have known that his strength was in going forward from midfield. It would have been against the Brazilians nature to play defensively and that would have been disastrous but even the Brazilians showed their innocence when with the score at 2-2 they did not try to play ‘Keep ball’. If they had done that in their own half and around the half-way line, they might just have hung on to draw and go on to win the World Cup. But the Brazilians’ were not adept enough, or nasty enough to do that and they went down gloriously, playing real old-fashioned attacking football.

L'Italie🇮🇹 après un 1er tour difficile a qd même tapé l'Argentine, le Brésil, la RFA ( en finale) comme grandes nations du foot. A souligner le magnifique parcours de la Pologne 🇵🇱 qu'on est pas près de revoir à ce niveau. Dire que la France avait mal démarré contre les Anglais mais quel parcours ensuite et ce France/RFA d'anthologie ( l'émotion, le suspense, la dramaturgie). L'Angleterre 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 et l'Argentine🇦🇷 qui avaient démarré fort tt comme le Brésil 🇧🇷 ont quitté la compétition avant les 1/2 finales. Puis l'Algérie 🇩🇿 et la Hongrie 🇭🇺 qui ratent de peu la qualification pour le tour suivant.

Paolo Rossi in the team for Italy was the single most outstanding player of this tournament. While Italy played very well and won the Cup, Rossi dragged the team to victory in each and every match they played. They had the toughest group, and then had to beat Maradona's Argentina, Socrates Brazil, Poland, and eventually West Germany in the final.
