I think Inui was the true standout from Japan but your choice of formation made it difficult to see a place for him. Yoshida was great as well. Cheers! Also I think either Cheryshev or Dzyuba deserve to be included - it may be evident that they are not world class footballers but they have performed like it during the tournament. Dzyuba was unplayable on every high ball and Cheryshev scored several stunning goals and ran his ass off.

Lukaku over Dzyuba seems a pick on reputation to me. Especially given that all of Lukaku's Goals came against Tunisia and Panama; arguably the two worst teams in the tournament. Take into account Dzyuba's hold up play in a team that spent a lot of time without the ball in their big games and how hard working he was in pressing from the front. This decision baffles me actually.

When you think of a back line, you need to consider the balance. Mina+Godin+Yoshida is a good combination. Replace Yoshida with Granqvist, and your 3 man defense won't have the ability to build from the back.

- Hugo - Granquist was great but I personally put the performances of Varane, Godin, Mina, Maguire, Vertongen and Lovren in front of him. You can definitely make argument that he should change out Yoshida with Granquist. After all Sweeden did also over performed, he is was the heart in that team and he was clinical on penalties.

One per nation...I wish you could slip in Kante too. He is the reason Pogba has minimal defensive duties and gives him the freedom to link up with Mbappe. The link up with Pogba and runs from Pavard are supporting structures to Mbappe's and Deschamps success. Tifo completely overlooked Ndidi. Wasn't even in honourable mentions. He completed 15 tackles and 12 interceptions in 3 matches. Top in the group stages. Even now, he's still joint second in tackles. Also averaged 5.7 aerial duels won per match. It's a no-brainer. Even if there wasn't a 1 player per country rule, it's stil Ndidi.

This is a very fair question, and I did agonise over it. Ndidi just missed out because I felt Gueye set the organisational tone for Senegal. But I agree, he was immense and tbh, it was never going to be easy to select for any position.
